Too bad many of the songs go by album release and copyright, and not actual single release. They're going to be confused. A lot of these are remembered as 1989 and a few 1990.
as a beach boys fan, im a bit disappointed neither kokomo nor love and mercy made it into this one, but i still love all these little year themed mashups.
Here! Here! ‘88 was incredibly memorable. Performing for two U.S.presidents ( one sitting) and playing at the first game of the World Series at Dodgers Stadium was no big deal at the time. I thought it was normal. (It’s not.) 🤘🤦♀️
The mixing was much better on this one than the previous few -- no abrupt tempo shifts, and everything complimented each other. I've gotta ask though -- where did you live that you thought Paula Abdul and Milli Vanilli were the most representative stuff in 1988??? Reach out a little and broaden stuff up -- no need to bury the good tracks! You guys do great work, I'd love to see you use more good material and sideline the bad, instead of the other way around. Switch up the ratios of Billy Ocean to NWA and that of Phil Collins to Erasure, and you'll be all set. The message at the end was awesome and true.
I feel the exact opposite. Paula Abdul and Milli Vanilli were HUGE back then but anyone who tells you they were a Pixies fan in '88 is lying. Same for Danzig, there was a following but it was definitely not mainstream. It wasn't until years later that those songs/bands became appreciated.
This is part of why these mixes are genius. "Underground" or "alternative" stuff is there, but hidden deeper in the mix. The Cure is in their 1979 mix, for instance--long before anyone really heard of them in the US. Joy Division is in 1979 and 1980, New Order is in every year, I think. But not at the front. Smiths are in 1983 and 1984, but hidden under the surface. The mixes are in direct proportion to mainstream popularity, but incorporate much more than is visible at a quick glance.
@@blackfeltfedora >> "anyone who tells you they were a Pixies fan in '88 is lying" LOL. Dude... Not just me, but most of my friends, were Pixies fans well before that. So true !!!! Paula Abdul's "Cold Hearted" vocals deserves a whole 3 min mix on Neneh Cherry's "Buffalo Stance" beat... with the Slick Rick's "Children Story" piano riff. Keep the magic on ;)
Not to nitpick, but it's not entirely fair to include "Cold Hearted" and "Opposites Attract" for 1988 here. The songs were on the "Forever Your Girl" album that was released in 1988, but both those songs went through a massive overhaul for their single/video versions. Both were remixed, "Cold Hearted" had a rap breakdown added, and "Opposites Attract" had two additional verses by MC Skat Kat added. Those new single/video versions are the ones included here. Both were released well into 1989. So yes, the songs existed in 1988, but not in the form featured here. Ok, go ahead, call me out for being too particular.
From 01:09 to 01:24 there is a really catchy melody playing, mixed with Cold Hearted by Paula Abdul. Does anyone know which song this melody comes from?
There are five songs mixed in with Don't Believe the Hype. Bobby Brown's "Don't be cruel" is the singing; They Might Be Giants "Anna Ng" is the fuzzy guitar'; Slick Rick "Children's Story" is the piano riff; MC Lyte is in there (although I can't figure out which song it is); New Edition "If this isn't love" is the video at the end where a boy band jumps around in a circle. If you search for my name in the comments, I've listed all the songs I could figure out and where they appear in this mashup.
Trump or his administration don't care about music or venues .. it is a sad shame but it is truth ... Go support your local venues as they start to open in some form .. it is up too US the fans !
As an Aussie I've been noticing our stuff in some of these mixes. Also UK, Irish, Swedish, Canadian stuff too, and I'm sure there's more I'm just overlooking.
Yeah, the album might have been released in '88, but the vid and the single wouldn't have been till 89 at least. Both the Paula Abdul and Metallica singles weren't until 1989, at least
Wow, not impressed with this one at all. 1988 was such a great year for music, the year I started high school. This seemed rushed and created by someone not even around, in that generation. Still, I'm a big fan of what you guys are doing.
These things are clearly a labor of love that take months to produce. If you don’t like a video, maybe just keep that opinion to yourself and move on to the next one. (Or better yet, comment on the videos that you DID love!)

Missing Music 😟 #saveourstages
val throckmorton there area heavy metal songs in these mashups.. that’s the beauty of them ...
I saw Joe!
Love it also...i was 14 and Mtv was Mtv
Where is Talk Talk?
What happened to the 1989 video?
Kylie's The Locomotion??
When's 1989 coming?
I love the other mashups from previous years but in this one you can hardly make out the songs.
This one is my least favorite.
These have been incredible. I think that 1988 kinda sucked for music choices though...
Does anyone know what song is mixed with Public Enemies “Don’t Believe The Hype”?
There are five songs mixed in with Don't Believe the Hype. Bobby Brown's "Don't be cruel" is the singing; They Might Be Giants "Anna Ng" is the fuzzy guitar'; Slick Rick "Children's Story" is the piano riff; MC Lyte is in there (although I can't figure out which song it is); New Edition "If this isn't love" is the video at the end where a boy band jumps around in a circle. If you search for my name in the comments, I've listed all the songs I could figure out and where they appear in this mashup.
@@SirViette Thanks! I knew I recognized Bobby Brown, but couldn't think of the song... this scratches that itch!
Many thanks, once again!
T Minus One week for my Birth Year!!!!

For the 90’s, can you include Pantera? Please? These are so amazing.

Trump or his administration don't care about music or venues .. it is a sad shame but it is truth ... Go support your local venues as they start to open in some form .. it is up too US the fans !
Too Yank centric; we need Oz and UK perspective.
As an Aussie I've been noticing our stuff in some of these mixes. Also UK, Irish, Swedish, Canadian stuff too, and I'm sure there's more I'm just overlooking.
The Tik-Tok Man They’re American DJs and these are based on American charts. Did you not get enough INXS in the previous years?
But where is the Latin American, Caribean, African, Middle East and Asian music? You are missing a lot for not including them.
It's based on US top 40.
@@jnadms I noticed. But it would be amazing if he/she/they make with those rhythms too.
I think this is perfect. Thank yous!
Most of those songs are 89 not 88
Like what?
@@RetroCrunch Cold Hearted Snake, The Look, Opposites Attract, Girl You Know It's True.
casedinlight Milli V was 88. I know, I lived it. 🤣❤️
Wow man! Thank you!!! I by all means, will turn this off and report them!!! What a sham they are!!! (Your a complete tool)
Well, u must be moronic... this was the Best so far... there she goes? Gigantic? Mother? ... only real music fans will appreciate
@@edcastilloromo ... Sure Eddie, whatever you say. 🤣
These things are clearly a labor of love that take months to produce. If you don’t like a video, maybe just keep that opinion to yourself and move on to the next one. (Or better yet, comment on the videos that you DID love!)
Hip hop & rap = caca.
Glam Metal = 10.
rap was great in the 80s and 90s, then slowly turned to crap as it progressed after.
