Definitive ranking based on 1988 forward: 1. Dale Earnhardt (slightly behind in wins total but absolutely DOMINATES in average finish, win%, top 5%, and top 10%--I mean 9.6 avg finish, win percentage of 22%, top 10 percentage of 75%) 2. Dale Earnhardt Jr (again, slightly behind the win total of Jeff Gordon but his percentages beat Jeff in every category except top 5 percentage) 3. Jeff Gordon (series-high 12 wins only rivaled by the Earnhardts and very solid numbers elsewhere with 13% win percentage) 4. Brad Keselowski (a very "if you ain't first, you're last" mentality where his win percentage is 13% with 6 wins but only finishes top 10 a third of the time and has an almost 20th place avg finish in 45 starts) 5. Dale Jarrett (tied with Brad for number of wins but his late career slump hurts the average win percentage which I think counts for a lot because you can extrapolate with it. Still, an amazing plate racer in his day) 6. Ernie Irvan (not setting the world on fire but SUPER consistent with top 5 and top 10 percentages second only to Dale Earnhardt himself. Great plate racer and 4 wins to boot) 7. Davey Allison (perhaps should be higher if he had more starts but with the starts he did make, he won 17% of them--second only to Dale Earnhardt's 22%. Another excellent plate racer who perhaps could've been top 3 if we hadn't lost him. 4 wins, though!) 8. Joey Logano (putting him higher than the next two because his win percentage is 9% instead of 7%, plus his other averages are more solid even though he has 4 wins instead of 5) 9. Jimmie Johnson (5 wins. Kind of average and consistent numbers elsewhere) 10. Tony Stewart (also 5 wins. Also kind of average and consistent numbers elsewhere that are slightly less as impressive than Jimmie's) Honorable mentions go to Ricky Stenhouse Jr whose avg finish is second only to Dale Earnhardt, Kurt Busch who has the fourth highest top 10 percentage and eighth highest top 5 percentage, and to Ryan Blaney who has a 9% win percentage in his young career at plate tracks. Other drivers with 4 wins are Denny Hamlin, Sterling Marlin, Bill Elliott, Michael Waltrip, and Jamie McMurray. I spent WAY too long on this answer.
Joey Logano Should have made this list. He's better than Hamlin and Mark Martin with two clash wins, two shootout wins, two 2nd place finishes in each, a Daytona 500, 3 wins at Talladega, has a average finish of 17.0 (better than Hamlin), and 472 laps led
Just think of how many more wins Dale Earnhardt Sr would of had in the Daytona 500 if it hadn't of been for all that bad luck he definitely had a love hate relationship with that place
1I believe for me , it's Denny's 1st time winning the Daytona 500 when i was watching 2 6:44 Tony Stewart I've watched him since 2013 3 7:45 Watching Jeff Gordon in 2013 and '14 hoping he can win some races 4 Dale jr has my pick because I've watched him since 2013 as well 2014 and 2015
Dale was a beast even in the 2001 speedweeks. Literally was in position to win the races he was in. Was leading the iroc race in a wrecked racecar with 2 laps left before Eddie ran him off the track Got passed by Tony Stewart with 2 laps to go again in the Shootout and finished second. 4 tires was better than 2 Was leading the duel race on a green/white restart but had a big jump and sterling marlin passed him on the backstretch to win it. Then had a car to win the 500 but held the pack off. And made a lot of bold moves throughout speedweeks
To me, it doesn't matter what spot the Coke Zero Sugar 400 has on the Schedule because it's a Wild Card none the less, it's just with it being the Regular Season Finale it puts a higher emphasis on that And if Chris Buescher or John Hunter Nemechek win then of course you're all gonna lose your minds on it.

I agree with the list... But Michael Waltrip deserved to be in the honorable mentions, at the minimum. The man drove in inferior equipment most of his career. But when he got to DEI, he was really good... Mikey scored 5 consecutive top 5s at Daytona from 2001 to 2003, including 3 wins during that time. He also won at Talladega with a car that had the wrong racing gear installed. He also had the best average finish of any driver at the plate tracks in 2002. During his days at DEI, Mikey was as much of threat as Dale Jr. was at the plate tracks and his results showed.
Definitely no surprise the late great Dale Earnhardt I never forget his last big win at dega with late Benny person on commentary woow how did dale pass all those cars?

I love Mark Martin, but plate tracks just where never really hits Forte, he had a knack for avoiding wrecks and thus has a great finish average as he almost always ends lead lap and running well, but he's a short track ace, his quality at plate tracks id consider a product of great equipment and his general consistency, if it were up to me (which is in no way to challenge your list or your opinions, just a different criteria) I would have chosen Ricky stenhouse Jr or Jimmy Johnson for that last spot, but nonetheless love the list and happy to see all this great content lately, as long as you have the time to make them ill make the time to watch them Edit: was thinking jimmy but typed Stew for some reason, long day, my apologies!
I ran some numbers and Mark Martin was #7 best with top 10 percentage and #14 best with top 5 percentages (45% top 10s, 22% top 5s). Higher than I'd have expected, especially considering he calls Daytona the World Center of Pain lol. But yeah, definitely not top 10 list material. Especially not when Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano have the numbers they do.
I'll have to check the stats but Ernie won his 500 for Morgan McClure, and Sterling won his 2 500's driving for MMM, I think it's fair to say they had the plate tracks figured out, the first half of the 90s at least. I'll have to check how Bobby Hamilton did from 98-00. Did Rick Wilson drive the Kodak car before Ernie? I wonder how he (or whoever drove before Ernie) did.
The Trevor Bayne of his era, he didn;t even know how to get to Victory Lane, he somehow won another race, that victory added over a decade to his career, what a complete fraud.

If you look at how many winners there were from the 2001 Pepsi 400 to 2007 fall Dega race not named Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Jr., Michael Waltrip or Tony Stewart it is outstanding. I believe Ward Burton, Biffle, Jamie Mac, and Dale Jarrett are the only ones to crack VL in that 7.5 year stretch of 30 races. Why the Gen 4 car was so awesome at Plate tracks is because the stars were always the ones who rose to the top. Let's face it. NASCAR is a sport for stars and the biggest ones were always in contention at these races.
Sorry to say but as much as this is a great list, Michael Waltrip belongs on it. Didn’t matter if he was driving for the Wood Brothers, Jim Smith, Jay Robinson, or himself he was always up front on the plate tracks. 7. Davey Allison (perhaps should be higher if he had more starts but with the starts he did make, he won 17% of them--second only to Dale Earnhardt's 22%. Another excellent plate racer who perhaps could've been top 3 if we hadn't lost him. 4 wins, though!)
8. Joey Logano (putting him higher than the next two because his win percentage is 9% instead of 7%, plus his other averages are more solid even though he has 4 wins instead of 5)
9. Jimmie Johnson (5 wins. Kind of average and consistent numbers elsewhere)
10. Tony Stewart (also 5 wins. Also kind of average and consistent numbers elsewhere that are slightly less as impressive than Jimmie's)
Honorable mentions go to Ricky Stenhouse Jr whose avg finish is second only to Dale Earnhardt, Kurt Busch who has the fourth highest top 10 percentage and eighth highest top 5 percentage, and to Ryan Blaney who has a 9% win percentage in his young career at plate tracks. Other drivers with 4 wins are Denny Hamlin, Sterling Marlin, Bill Elliott, Michael Waltrip, and Jamie McMurray.
I spent WAY too long on this answer.
Biggest sr fan ever.... but with the era and rules package that jr had to run with.....my vote goes to jr for best all time
Great content as always nxt up top 10 greatest short track racers of the modern era
Agreed.
i agree Dale is the best superspeedway drive i mean One for His Nicknames was Mr. Restrictor plate
Fact check it was six laps for the Earnhardt Sr go from 17th to 1st in that race
First Dale Earnhardt sr and Jr were my favorite super speedway drivers
Matt kenseth should be somewhere around 10th. Maybe honorable mention for Michael Waltrip also! Love the vids. Keep em coming!
Matt Kenseth is a Championship driver, so, yes, Michael Waltrip was just lucky to be born into the right family, otherwise, he's digging ditches.
P8 he has alot of wins
I disagree! Him and jimmy Johnson always had great cars and caused a lot more big wrecks than they have wins
Just think of how many more wins Dale Earnhardt Sr would of had in the Daytona 500 if it hadn't of been for all that bad luck he definitely had a love hate relationship with that place
If Nascar just ran Superspeedway races, Michael Waltrip and David Ragan would be cup series champions
Hi iceberg just subscribed and I like that top 10 list
1I believe for me , it's Denny's 1st time winning the Daytona 500 when i was watching
2 6:44 Tony Stewart I've watched him since 2013
3 7:45 Watching Jeff Gordon in 2013 and '14 hoping he can win some races
4 Dale jr has my pick because I've watched him since 2013 as well
2014 and 2015
Always great content. You always spoil us fans.
Thank you, I'm happy that you enjoy it
I dont need to add or subtract anyone you nailed this list
Dale was a beast even in the 2001 speedweeks. Literally was in position to win the races he was in.
Was leading the iroc race in a wrecked racecar with 2 laps left before Eddie ran him off the track
Got passed by Tony Stewart with 2 laps to go again in the Shootout and finished second. 4 tires was better than 2
Was leading the duel race on a green/white restart but had a big jump and sterling marlin passed him on the backstretch to win it.
Then had a car to win the 500 but held the pack off.
And made a lot of bold moves throughout speedweeks
Blaney should’ve probably been on this list as honerable mentions
He's got better stats than Stenhouse
To me, it doesn't matter what spot the Coke Zero Sugar 400 has on the Schedule because it's a Wild Card none the less, it's just with it being the Regular Season Finale it puts a higher emphasis on that
And if Chris Buescher or John Hunter Nemechek win then of course you're all gonna lose your minds on it.
Elite content yet again. Never a bad video
Honorable mentions
Michael Waltrip
Kevin Harvick
Matt Kenseth
Loved this video!! Keep up the content!!
@@Dante.the.inferno plate racing is and will always be an important part of the cup series deal with it
@@Dante.the.inferno man go make a sandwich and stop hating. It takes time to slap together stats and put up youtube videos for people like you and I. Its not about disrespect to the sport, if anything this is paying homage. Im a 48 fan and if jimmie was on the top 10 then something would've been wrong because jimmie has wrecked a lot at plate tracks.... like alot.. but I refuse to keep going back and forth with you on someone else's hard work. If you have a youtube channel? Drop your name and ill subscribe to it, don't care what it is. Free subscription from me. Im not a hater like most people are. Enjoy your day Thomas.
WHERE IS GRAGSON AND BURTON? IVE BEEN WAITING FOR WEEKS TO REF THE MATCH! AND IM RACING AT DAYTONA THIS WEEK
7:11 My dad and I were at this race when I was 10, and I vividly remember screaming “HE PUSHED HIM BELOW THE LINE!!” Good times
8:06 Gordon isn’t “tied” for first, he stands alone with 12 plate wins.
Dale Earnhardt sr: doubt
40 wins across plate tracks
30 at Daytona, 10 at Talladega
@@Ob1tuber Dale Sr. has 13 Superspeedway wins, not 40. For some reason he's the only driver ppl try to count Twin 125 and Clash wins towards his win total. He won 13 points races on Superspeedways. 10 at Talladega and 3 at Daytona.
Brad Keselowski has 6 plate wins but is only an Honorable Mention right beside Kurt Busch who only has 1 plate win. I stopped watching this list at #8 when he said Hamlin is the only active driver on the list. I HATE BK with a passion but expected him to be ranked
I think Michael Waltrip deserves at least a honorable mention, he always ran up front at every plate race
He ran up front at DEI but everywhere else he was sub par. His average in general at these tracks was below 25th
Not being the best driver in your own family, winning one Daytona 500 overshadowed by a death, and, the other because of rain, tends to hurt.
@@TheIceberg Yeah, if his name was Michael Smith, his career is halved, at a minimum.
I think I'd replace Martin with Keselowski. Otherwise pretty good list. I called the top 3.
Really? No Bill Elliott at all? He had admirable stats after '88 come on
But his prime was 1985
I agree with the list...
This is a cop out list. You can easily make the case that drafting was more important before restrictor plates. They were going faster in the 60's than they do today.
150 miles an hour is definitely faster then 210 buddy
@@akadoiphin267 What an idiot. Buddy Baker broke the 200 MPH mark in 1970. In 2020 the pole speed at Daytona was 194. Keep it coming moron. Prove your lack of intelligence for the world to see.
jason wiggins people like you are the reason why jokes arent funny anymore 😔
I love Mark Martin, but plate tracks just where never really hits Forte, he had a knack for avoiding wrecks and thus has a great finish average as he almost always ends lead lap and running well, but he's a short track ace, his quality at plate tracks id consider a product of great equipment and his general consistency, if it were up to me (which is in no way to challenge your list or your opinions, just a different criteria) I would have chosen Ricky stenhouse Jr or Jimmy Johnson for that last spot, but nonetheless love the list and happy to see all this great content lately, as long as you have the time to make them ill make the time to watch them
Edit: was thinking jimmy but typed Stew for some reason, long day, my apologies!
DEI = Greatest Superspeedway Team
Don’t @ DennyDelivers on this
Yes definetly
Hands down
Nikolas Cinicola r/woooooosh
@Nikolas Cinicola r/woosh
Ernie Irvan had more brushes with death than any driver I know, glad that he quit while he was ahead.
I can attest that he went in grave detail for this list.
Number 1. Derrike Cope
The Trevor Bayne of his era, he didn;t even know how to get to Victory Lane, he somehow won another race, that victory added over a decade to his career, what a complete fraud.
Jamie McMurray is an underrated plate driver
5 Watching Rocky stenhouse jr since
2013 , 2014
2015 , 2018
2020 , 2022
2023- present
5 Joey Logano maybe but watching him get wrecked in 2013's Autoclub was cool
6 Brad Keselowski in 2012 doesn't win the cup series championship because i didn't start watching
7 "Old man buschy" 10:55 Has my pick for the wins he got in 2014 or 2015
8 I respect "Jimmie jam" for winning other races in 2013
Nailed this list there was no question as to who was #1 and #2 the Earnhardts r and will forever be the best period
If anyone disagrees with #1 then rethink your life
Matt Kenseth always came to mind for me
Yeah, his Championship seems a lifetime ago from this point.
Two Daytona 500s, two duel wins and a clash win plus a Talladega win and 900 laps led combined.
Kenseth is definitely an underrated plate driver.
I’m thinking Michael waltrip should have been up there somewhere due to winning the plate races that dale jr didn’t between 2001 and 2004
Michael Waltrip would have been sweeping floors were it not for his brother, the sad truth.
I have a fire suit from one of Sterling Marlins pit crew from 1993, it was worn by George Gardener
Add Bill Elliott to the list and you would have hit the nail on the head. Great before n after tbe plates
In my opinion Stenhouse is the best plate racer in the field his stats are unbelievable
Michael McDowell is Damn good at these tricks if he was in a top tier he would’ve won at least a million times
well...
Not even an Honerable Mention for Michael Waltrip?
Dude only did good at the Speedways where his 4 total wins came.
Dale Jarrett anyone? 3 Daytona 500s, 1 Summer Daytona, 2 Talladega wins.
Jarret's final win at Dega was a masterclass in drafting.
Wow , the fact that brad was not up there I mean as far as active drivers go brad is one of the best . At Daytona he is always up there and talledega I mean hello ???
I’m the best look at my NASCAR Heat 4 Stats
Video games arent the same as real life buddy
Supra Boy Marcos it was a joke lmao
Ok
Jimmie Johnson spoiled Lowe's because as soon as he stopped winning they left
I’ll throw Jamie McMurray out there as an honorable mention since no one else will. He had a sporadic stat sheet, but he reeled in all the big ones.
I LIKE THIS MY ALTIME FAVORITES DALE AND DALE JR 1 AND 2
Keselowski should def be on this list and not just an honorable mention
I’m actually kinda surprised Brad Keselowski wasn’t on the top 10, but I totally agree with everyone you mentioned.
You should do an active driver list.
Jeff Gordon has the most plate wins. That's good enough for me.
Kurt Busch
77 starts
1 race win the 500
1 Duel win
1 Clash win
Top 5’s 21
Top 10’s 39
Average finish combined both tracks 14.55
Kurt’s only downside is his wins. 4 second place finishes though.. if those 2nds were wins he would have made this list.
How was keselowski not in the top 10?
10:33 take that heat 5, also my boy’s the honorable mentions
Kurt is actually like really really good at plate tracks but, He always comes short but 2019
Dega races 2019 led 8 laps with 14 to go spring restart Joey blocked and didnt go anywhere high 2018 fall led half the race ran out of fuel on The last lap 2008 500 2nd 2005 5002nd he comes so close
Kurt's super underrated at those tracks. Hes pushed many guys to wins too
@@packisbetter90 yes hes been the one pushing instead of being the one pushed
Zero arguments. Awesome list
Rumor says Dale Jr and Dale Sr could see the air at the restrictor plate tracks
Please do Top 10 short track racer.
Jtg Daughertys superspeedway cars are really good.
Yeah they got hendrick backing
Hendrick power will do that for ya.
Two Daytona 500s, a Pepsi 400, a Talladega win, two Duel wins including a photo finish over Dale Jr, a Truck Series Daytona win. Very underrated plate racer.
Can someone explain how brad keselowski isn’t on this list? He has more plate wins than the first 4 guys on here
He's likely being penalized as being just too inexperienced, despite his Championship.
Matthew Daley Championships don’t mean shit for the best super speedway drivers
@@thelgiver7339 It does for this list apparently, hence his inexcusable exclusion.
Just to be clear I know you aren't biased about #2 and #1 since others may think that they're there because your family are die-hard Earnhardt fans. It really is true that Dale Sr. and Dale Jr. are the greatest superspeedway drivers of all-time.
Definitely. Dale Jr. has almost identical numbers to Gordon in around 20 less starts. He also has a better average finish by about 2 positions as well
