🔬 026 - How to prepare MOSS and DIATOMS for microscopy - timelapse of oxygen bubble!

- Here I collect a sample of moss from a local fountain to observe under the microscope. I find diatoms, rotifers and some unknown stuff. An oxygen bubble is growing due to photosynthesis.

**** MICROSCOPE RECOMMENDATION ****
I receive many questions on which microscope one should buy. I recommend the following models for amateur microscopy (Affiliate Links to Amazon):

i love your videos so much. i struggled in biology class because it was hard for me to comprehend microorganisms and cell structures, but because of your videos its helped me see better how these cells and organisms exist! so educational, and really interesting. thank you so much for producing these!!!
My education about cell structures was like a slice of reality took away from the rest. It was very detailed, in-depth knowledge, but nobody from my class felt how it all surrounds us. I mean we know it, obviously, but the education lacked that connection with everyday nature, that Microbehunter shows us. I think that for some of us that might be a reason for the excitement we take from his artwork.
Interesting finds! Did you try soaking the dry moss for a few hours before viewing again? Tardigrades are often found in moss, but when they're in a cyst state they just look like debris. Soaking in spring water will animate them.
Denise Williams for the best results do it for a day
I LOVE the intro music and video sequence at the beginning. You should keep using it.
Plz tell make a video on the different types of stains and mounting mediums.I am in standard 11 and cant understand them quite well
Wow. Learned a lot! Keep doing these. It's amazing!
This is interesting, Oliver. I collected a fairly dry sample of moss from a rock near my local beach. I did pull the sample out along with some very sandy soil. At home, when I placed the sample into a clean, rectangular, transparent, plastic container, soil side down, I sprayed it with tap water; then I cut a very small length of a moss stem and placed it onto the slide with a drop of tap water and covered it with a cover glass on top. It looked a bit like how your first slide here turned out. Surprisingly, I found a number of Rotifers in the sample. The thing is, I cut the stem from the top side of the moss sample, not from the soil side; so, I was wondering how that could be.
I love your videos. My only issue is the title sequence is a bit long after watching 10 or so of these back to back. It's a very minor problem. I'm just glad the audio levels stay even between the inrto and rest of the video.
Nothing\ are you crazy? The title sequence is awesome, I could never get bored of it. Also, you do realise you can instantly skip 10 seconds of the video by double tapping on the right side of the video screen.
Hope I enjoyed it? I extremely enjoyed it, love the idea of micro hunting!
Great channel. Keep it up. Thanks
Lovely
And yea can you try to get some cute tardigrades to see
Any catalog digital in oder to identify microorganisms?
Good day Micro Hunter. I was shocked to find out that microorganisms when washed with only water stay on the moss grabbing their food/home piece...which means that my home made tooth paste with blender shredded tuja pine is heavily populated with small animals. I put coconut food oil and soda in it. Does this kills all small folks out there or are they saying...heh great even more food for the winter. Can you please determine that by placing some tuja or cyprus soft green needles into coconut and soda for one day and after see what is still inside dead or alive i will also want to buy soon microscope so do you recommend olympus what about other reliable brands. I need the most professional "resolution" or definition for the least price and if possible to be able to look at blood samples with black field but than i need to have one with atlest 50 vat halogen let me know. I am doing many scientific experiments and i am going to need ti. Also what happens when we ingest such diatoms and other are they eaten by the macrophages or continue to live inside anaerobically
chloroplasts
Sir , I am a child and I subbed to you . I looked under a microscope leaf of Moss but there are no diatoms , only cells . plz help
i think your microscpe-tower is a little bit to high an how do you know that it is oxygen and not air expanding with temperature
Can you do the jellyfish head under microscope
Have you put different kinds of dust under a microscope?
Could the air bubbles also be growing due to the evaporation of the water?
Not in this case. These bubbles form on the "inside" (they are fully surrounded by water) this is due to oxygen formation. Evaporating water will make the air move in from the side. It looks like a straight front of air moving across the slide and not a circular bubble expanding.
Ahhhh makes sense. Thanks for the insight!
what objective magnifiction need to see them? Thanks
40x to 400x total magnifification. More is not needed.
please give subtitles in your videos.. it will be more helpful to be understand.
What is your favorite microscope that you use
My favorite microscope is the one that I do not have yet... I am saving money for it.
www.gofundme.com/f/microbehunter
But I am currently using an Olympus CH40, which is over 20 years old.
Which microscope are you saving up for?
@@titan1286 It is an Olympus BX53 with DIC system. The DIC is a technique that can only be found in high end microscopes.
Good luck buying it
What country is this guy from?
He looks like a Filipino , but speaks like an american
Hol up ur saying u bought them in a local drug store?
Yes, the white plastic containers are used to store creams that the drug store mixes together.
Local drugs store 🤣🤣🤣
