If American Infiniti reliability records have any relavence, we have had 4 infiniti's in my family. All of them extremely reliable so far. Virtually no problems.

The 7-speed automatic is basically a Mercedes 7G tronic....which is shit. I've once had the displeasure to drive a C-class with that transmission and never have I ever driven a car with a gearbox that actually feels like it's made of oil and rubber. I'd choose a manual over any automatic any day

Im looking to get one.. What's it like to drive.. Got a BMW 320d msport and I hate the way it's so bumpy and harsh and let's not forget the list of little things wrong with it and a few lights turning on and off on the dash... German reliability?? Whatever...

I am sure he over exaggerated the so called issues in the car. Nissan is one of the world biggest car manufacturers, in fact way bigger than bmw rip off. I could find 100 faults with bmw cars and cheap plastic bits in them too. I actually drove a 3 series the other day and hated it. The lower half of my body was twisted cause of the positioning of the peddles and the car just felt cluster phobic and uncomfortable. The only thing that was good was the handling but that does not mean the car is the best of the best. Yes and there were a lot of cheap plastics etc. Also nissan made cars have better reliability. He made out as if the infinity was a total fail but why would a reputable car manufacturer make a car so bad to damage their reputation. In other parts of the world infinity sales are way higher.
Infinity Q50 is a very comfy and premium car..... get auto gearbox and enjoy... bmw3 is boring after mansion it every time compare to any compact executive..... Buy Infinity - be different!
The Japanese make far better cars than anyone else. You're testing the base none sport model of the Q50, that's why you don't have the sharp steering wheel. I have a 2013 G37S, which is the last model before they renamed the car to Q50, and I love the way it drives and sticks to the road. I've owned BMW and MB before, and I would never go back to them, they break like there is no tomorrow and that is simply badly built cars. All German cars are as bad as the Americans, and the only different thing is that the Germans' suspensions. Just a week ago I drove to Las Vegas and rented a 2013 VW Passat, it had only 16k miles on it and by the 2nd day in Vegas the power steering pump blew up and I had to return it to the rental company and exchange it with a Nissan Altima that had no issues at all completing my vacation and getting me back home. So, when comparing cars, don't just talk about the steering wheel for God's sake, do a real life comparison.
Even if this car was better than a 3-series in every respect I doubt it would sell much. Probably because 50% BMW drivers don't even take a test drive...or know anything about cars. They just buy it because of the badge. Because it isn't German or prestigious (in the UK at least) it will be invisible to the badge obsessed crowd. Lexus have been building cars that are better made and more reliable than German makes for over 25 years but still their market share here is pretty tiny. Sadly most people buy based on image and brand loyalty rather than ability and thats why I doubt this car will make much of an impact.......although personally I'd have one just because it sets you apart from the crowd.
Reliability and cost will drive the success of these cars. They also look nice and are very comfortable. It is easily the best value luxury on the market.
I like these and they are a very rare sight here on the roads in the UK. I am considering a Q70 at the moment and trying to find information and uk UK reviews difficult. I am a Lexus man and even they seem to have a negative image here. All the motor journalists are very bias towards the German manufacturers. I have had Merc, BMW and VW but they have all been good but nothing compare to either of the Lexus cars I have owned.
Every car this guy tests he says is not as good as a 3 series, its the only thing he ever comes up with. The 3 series is average at best yet he is obsessed with them.
Finally Infinity Q50, yes! I was waiting for it! Now it is time for Porsche Macan. Thank you, Carbuyer for all your great car presentations. Good work. ;)
we own an infinite M35 hybrid. Worlds fastest hybrid. Goes like a bat out of hell. Full tech package. It can literally drive its self on the highway. Stop start tech. Lane keep and departure. Distronic. Super quiet. We got the only one in all of Texas in 2013. Love it. Amazing technology. I can pull next to nearly any car and beat them off the line.
I have seen many teslas where I live. I have never seen my car. My car is more rare than the teslas. The technology in my car is used in my Mercedes too. Its so good that Daimler Chrysler bought it and puts it in all of their cars. I never hated on Teslas. I like them. I would like to own one. I have driven two models when I was looking for a new car. But with a range of 200 miles while driving conservatively is not very comforting. The second you start to drive it the way you want to...with a lead foot, your looking at a range of 40-75 miles. And a rechargeable time of 6-8 hours. No thanks. When the technology is better I will buy one. And drive circles around your Honda CRX.
although i agree with most of his review, this car isn't as bad as he makes it seem. remember, brits have a huge negative view of japanese cars, watch top gear and you will understand.
That was a disappointing review! it was so biased! I dont understand why British people are so biased about this car! (even in other reviews from UK, they are like you!) I don't know much about the diesel one, but petrol one drives great! it so precise and fast. asking you to push it harder and harder! much more fun than 328, A4, and C300 for the same price. I suggest you drive them all before making stupid comments based on your little knowledge from here and there
+JonesNanaz I think European vs Japanese cars are viewed differently here in Europe in general vs the US. You may have a point but you may have also some of your own unconscious bias going on to.
+Georg Fritzl Actually it is not a bias. I own an 2013 Audi A6 as well, which is an awesome car. no doubt, but about $25K more expensive than my 2015 Q50, but believe me, engine wise, Q50 is as nimble as A6, and I kinda can say the engine noise is even better. However, MPG kinda sucks. I test drove A4, 328i, Lexus Is350, I also rented a C300 for 2weeks before my purchase. I can say generally, Q50 is one of the best, on top of the list, much better engine than A4, much better interior quality than 328xi, with a 330hp engine, stronger and noisier than C300, and Much nicer place to be in, than Lexus. with a very reasonable price. Anyways... ;)
I've read loads of reviews of this car and all of them have been fairly good, not earth shattering, but good ; enough to make me think of Infiniti as a good contender. This one, though, seems alarmingly negative and he seems to find issues that don't exist in other reviews. I'm very hesitant to listen to Matt's reviews ever since he drove the Kia Pro_Cee'd. He stated that the GT model was pretty rubbish overall - I test drove one along with loads of others (including the Merc A-Class, Astra GTC and SEAT Ibiza SC FR) - the Kia was easily the best one and all the problems he harped on about in his video just didn't exist. I'd imagine it'll be the same issue with the Q50.
jaymum23 I'd still give Jaguar a gold medal for being utterly amazing. Breaking from Ford is probably the single best thing they ever did. Its hard to find anything that tops a Jaguar in their respective classes. Same with the 3-series to be brutally honest because as a complete package, its difficult to top (I'd still rather have an Audi if I was going Saloon car, however). If I'm honest, quite a lot of reviews here in the UK that I've read aren't very biased at all. Just take ones like CarBuyer and AutoCar with a rather large pinch of salt and, of course, nothing can beat actually going to test drive it yourself.
Isn't the diesel engine and transmission lifted straight from a C-Class? I have driven a manual C-Class and the gearshift was indeed terrible. It was so bad that first became almost impossible to select and it had to go back to the dealer for adjustment..... which didn't really make any difference.
all you Q50 owners out there! tell me.... when you switch the lights on at night, do all the instrument lights illumitate? never seen the heater or radio swiches ever light up! aww Mark in uk
It's a real shame about this car. The G37 (the Q50's predecessor) was one of the most fun cars that I've ever driven. All the reviews seem to point to the fact that the Q50 just doesn't live up to it.
I don't know why you didn't mentioned that the steering is rubbish because the steering wheel isn't actually connected to the wheels (or maybe you did and I'm deaf). It's called Direct Adaptive Steering and while it isn't the best solution for sporty drivers we should follow the development of this system.
i'm not from UK but i'm from Spain. In here, japanese cars are more expensive than germans. I'm talking about lexus or infiniti. Also, germans cars offer a lot of engines (they can offer more than 15 engine options) while japanese cars usually offer only 2 or 3 options. Also, japanese manufacturers only offer a few extras, while german cars offer a lot of extras. I thinks those are the main reasons why japanese cars are not very popular
notformebeaky I think people who buy lexus/infinity/acura like reliability. Something the Germans still struggle with. I do agree that Infinity made huge mistakes with the Q50. The older G37 got praise for its great engine, and its direct steering and feel. Infinity strayed from sport to luxury with poor execution. Personally I loved the G37 and was hoping that the Q50 would be much of the same but updated. I'm hesitant of MB and BMW b/c I tend to keep my cars for a long time, and they don't exactly have stellar records in regards to reliability.
I ever owned Lexus twice, merc twice and bmw once and indeed lexus is more reliable and less expensive parts to replace. Lexus will be more refined and comfy as compared to merc or bmw but if u look for sporty ride, lexus is not for you (maybe latest one more to sporty side)
You're out of your mind, this car steers like a dream. Making constant adjustments? Are you kidding? That's an outright lie, and anyone who's driven one would agree. You're seriously going to say that you don't know if you turn the steering wheel right the car will turn right? Come on man, be professional.
"And it should see the company see an increase in it's sales here in the UK". Well no, not if any potential buyers have just seen it slammed in this video...
You cannot compare an over rated German car to any Japanese vehicle. Buy a German car and you get an interior that is not good enough for anyone that knows what quality is, An engine that requires forced induction in order to perform and general maintenance parts that are inflated as much as 500%. Owning a German vehicle is a fad for the misinformed and shows how stupid you are for throwing your money away for a lessor vehicle.
Mike Johnson You just sound like a bloated windbag with a bone to pick. :/ No, German cars are not the best, but are they as terrible as you make them out to be? Lord no! German cars are good, not the best, but good, and under no circumstances would you be "throwing your money away" if buying one. "Throwing your money away" would actually apply more to French and American cars. Also, with your comment on Forced Induction: A modern engine designed to be forced induction from day one is actually a better engine than a normally aspirated by a very long way. Horsepower of a larger engine in a more economical package and a giant slug of torque across almost the entire rev-range with the engine overbuilt to handle the greater pressures, making them more reliable overall.
+benanderson89 I would only buy a German car if it is a performance oriented spec like an RS Audi or Munich or AMG German car. But the reliability and the cost is just stupid. Considering a powerful sports car for the same price and with circuit pedigree, you'd spend less with a Lambo killer GTR or the new Honda/Acura NSX. Japanese supercars are always going to give those hyper sedans a good trashing due to their build for circuit
Constantine Joseph But you can't fit your children and their things in the back of an NSX or GTR. You need to think About what other people want and why Super Saloons exist.
and I ought to think the steering was going to be great considering it was made in japan like other brands such as Subaru and it's awesome AWD capability and its great handling. lol im just in shock.
I am sorry, but this problems are only in the 2.2 diesel engine, are because Infiniti dont built the motor, Mercedes Benz do, you need test the 3.7 or the 3.5 hybrid are so better; and the quality of the car one of the best, the problems comes around of 250,000 miles.
For some reason, I don't trust this review. It looks like Infinity is being pushed back so Merc, BMW, Audi and VW can remain in the eyes of buyers. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan of German cars even I own one but looks like Matt got overexcited in negging this car.
I like it but I'd rather own a BMW 5 series, simply because of the clutch, handling and gearbox. A decent car though. Quite good actually- apart from the fact it looks like the new Mazda 6.
Usually when CarBuyer reviews luxury sedans, I'm impressed by how clever and delicate those cars are designed, but I'm not feeling it with this car. I'm rather... disappointed.
Forgive me if I come off as being crude, but I was hoping this sexy car would have the equally sexy Rebecca reviewing it...oh well ;-) Hey, does a US original owner of a 2004 G35 count in your numbers? I have kept the car for the 10years and it has 130k miles. Summary - I love it, glad I purchased it, and it has been nothing but reliable.
ThePetrolhead94 Yes you are right, My mistake, but as the 3.0D of the FX was Renault´s engine I thought the smaller one would be from the same brand too.
KIYOOU Diesels are actually the FAR more reliable engine choice. They're overbuilt, making them more resilient; they have fewer parts (Diesels don't even have spark plugs), meaning less to go wrong and they spin MUCH slower (going over 2,500RPM in a Diesel is considered flooring it), reducing overall lifetime stress. The problem with Renaults was never the engines, their engines are actually very well engineered and solidly built; its the electronics that let Renault down.
Too bad. I was actually liking this car until Mat pointed out that the steering is horrible, and that he found himself having to make corrections all the time.
Wonder what Car Matt drives for his own personal use?? just out of interest. Also the engine is a Merc effort and no doubt the gearbox and clutch are, and looking at those switches its also nicked from a merc. pretty poor effort of a car though.
Looks like a Mazda 6. The problem with Infiniti is that nobody's heard of them, they're too Americanized and also way overpriced compared to rivals despite lower quality
The automatic gearbox doesn't react to throttle for a second or two, even if you have the "sport" settings engaged. That's the main reason why this car sucks.
Infinitis are great cars I dont understand why the UK doesnt like them

Looks like a Subaru crossed with a Mazda 6 with a Lexus grille, while it is quite practically a Nissan. Japan really do have their own style.
The car drives great, its the 'infortainmen' system that sucks and lack of storage for small everyday items sucks, its powerful with good handling
the 2.0t is good? i wanan buy it
And this car comes from company that makes 370Z and GT-R???
***** Actually, Dacia and Renault are separate from Nissan. Yes they are in an alliance but one company does not own the other.
Imagine an infinity version of a GT-R? Now that would be something if possible...
Alexandra Sinclair Check out the upcoming q50 Eau Rogue
Alexandra Sinclair rouge I mean
+benanderson89 This was an Infiniti, not a Renault...
No, German cars are not the best, but are they as terrible as you make them out to be?
What a beauty sunny weather!
reupload?
glitch in matrix
We had some technical issues! So we had to take it down and re-upload.

5:48 HAHA :D "Wabbling your jiggly bits"
Cakemix gearbox and clutch was hilarious lol
Going to have a review of Audi A3 Sportsback?
and I ought to think the steering was going to be great considering it was made in japan like other brands such as Subaru and it's awesome AWD capability and its great handling. lol im just in shock.
Finally Mat!
Is it just me or does somebody else find the cockpit very similar to those in Hyundai?
Perfect car!
For markets who lap them up outside the UK.
this guy is so adorable and cute
It looks pretty similar to a mazda. They r both nice cars, tho. :)
Stunning looking car, even in the dreary colour they tested here and being Japanese it's certainly guaranteed to be built like a tank.
Kindly review the new inifini q60
I just realized they gave uk manuals
I am sorry, but this problems are only in the 2.2 diesel engine, are because Infiniti dont built the motor, Mercedes Benz do, you need test the 3.7 or the 3.5 hybrid are so better; and the quality of the car one of the best, the problems comes around of 250,000 miles.
For some reason, I don't trust this review. It looks like Infinity is being pushed back so Merc, BMW, Audi and VW can remain in the eyes of buyers. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan of German cars even I own one but looks like Matt got overexcited in negging this car.
not even my polo has its gear wobbling like that when its on neutral.... for an expensive car like this ...its really disappointing.
An excellent review, and soooooooooooooo FUNY :)
The standard steering is much better then the wire steering!
Infiniti is a great build car i have an used 2014 3.7 it is fast and precise it feel lighter than it really is
I have a q50s 3.7 tune
I like it but I'd rather own a BMW 5 series, simply because of the clutch, handling and gearbox. A decent car though. Quite good actually- apart from the fact it looks like the new Mazda 6.
Usually when CarBuyer reviews luxury sedans, I'm impressed by how clever and delicate those cars are designed, but I'm not feeling it with this car. I'm rather... disappointed.
This isn't really a full on luxury sedan, compact executive car. I'd say "luxury" starts at E Class and above...
First time I've ever heard you complaining about clutch in a hilarious way! xD Cake mix...
Forgive me if I come off as being crude, but I was hoping this sexy car would have the equally sexy Rebecca reviewing it...oh well ;-)
Hey, does a US original owner of a 2004 G35 count in your numbers? I have kept the car for the 10years and it has 130k miles. Summary - I love it, glad I purchased it, and it has been nothing but reliable.
Because it was petrol engine right? Diesels are much more problematic, and even more when the engine comes from Renault!
KIYOOU Mercedes actually
ThePetrolhead94 Yes you are right, My mistake, but as the 3.0D of the FX was Renault´s engine I thought the smaller one would be from the same brand too.
KIYOOU In 2004, us Yanks got the VQ35DE, as the only option, for our G35s - no diesel version available.
Volvo 2014 reviews pls!
this is like in between a 3 series and a 5 series in size
It’s an awesome car to drive
The captions don’t even match up
Okay, Matt! You don't like the Q50... Geez
Thank you Mercedes for the famous engine and gearbox :(
yup.... Like! good review Mat thank you
i don't like the car .. but i LIKE the video ... (y)
nice review
But, but this is considered luxurious here in North America lol
lol the captions say Ferrari not Aston Martin
I prefer the M over the Q50 (the M is the predecessor to the Q50)
It is actually a nice car, but the interior is a bit weird
Good job and Nice car
Wonder what Car Matt drives for his own personal use?? just out of interest.
Also the engine is a Merc effort and no doubt the gearbox and clutch are, and looking at those switches its also nicked from a merc. pretty poor effort of a car though.
Carbuyer is becoming more and more of a joke.
Great review there, no explanation no description. Good to see you paid attention in school regarding writing and opinion pieces
I really wanted this car. Test drove 2 of them and they both sucked. Ended up with QX30 which is far superior to Q50 but slightly smaller.
Looks like the Ocelot Jackal from GTA V
Looks like a Mazda 6. The problem with Infiniti is that nobody's heard of them, they're too Americanized and also way overpriced compared to rivals despite lower quality
Lada Niva = everything a man needs! ;D
Check the loose wire on the rear mirror at 1:47. It seems to be made in China.
hey! someone's playing with the animation!
mazda 3 review please !!!
Hes obviously kissing the german cars asses. Watch him review a land rover, he'll say their better than Ferrari if he could.
The automatic gearbox doesn't react to throttle for a second or two, even if you have the "sport" settings engaged. That's the main reason why this car sucks.
Why do the Japanese think that UGLY cars, like the one above,do sell in Europe?
i own and like this car, who,s paying you ?
Wobbling your giggly bits lol 5:48
