I'm a registered Democrat but party loyalty means absolutely nothing to me. If the Democratic party got out of line, I'm out. I would gladly vote for Cox if I lived in Utah. What he's doing is of utmost importance right now.
Oh, Governor Cox, I can't tell you how much I just want to shout "Hallelujah!" every time I see you standing up for this extremely important issue of our time of bridging divides by learning how to #DisagreeBetter! I want to catch that fire you are lighting of loving my fellow Americans who I disagree with.
I love this initiative! My entire family has all been really close. That changed with the COVID era. Now there is a clear split down the middle between conservatives and liberals, whatever that means. We can not have a single discussion that involves the political climate because every conversation turns mean, nasty, and feels like a personal attack.
One essential feature of our behavior while disagreeing that will make our disagreements better is to apply the Golden Rule. And the essence of the Golden Rule is "treat others with Respect as you would like to be treated with Respect." Regardless of how all the various statements of the Golden Rule might be worded, this is about Respect for the humanity of each of us. This is about Respect of one divine being for another divine being. You can disagree with the outward behaviors of another without being disrespectful towards the inherent divine nature of the other. It is at the level of our shared divine nature of being where we truly are all one. It is at the level of our outward behaviors where we differ. Consider always, though, that our great diversity of outward interests, abilities, knowledge and understanding is what helps bring a great richness to our potentials as a community, whether as a family, a neighborhood, a city, a state, a country, or as the world. With Respect for each other, through harmonious cooperation we have the potential to do wonderful and amazing things, together.
