Have lived in Greensboro since 2013. My only problem is the city’s lack of growth compared to neighboring cities such as Raleigh, Durham, and Winston. And the city has simply forgotten about northeast and southeast Greensboro
Thanks for watching Micky. I tend to agree...growth should be picking up in the coming years though. With some of the companies and other things coming here they are projecting growth of 2+% per year vs 1% in the past.
I've lived all over the Eastern US--WV, MD, VA, PA, DE,. NC--and Greensboro is by far my favorite place. The cost of living is reasonable, there are great job opportunities, there are a LOT of parks, recreational facilities, and entertainment venues. Great restaurants, good people, and lots of artists and creatives. The schools are good too, and we have several good colleges and universities. The only bad thing about Greensboro is the "WokeVolk" who are taking over our government and schools, and attempting to transform this beautiful, prosperous city into the sort of "Woke" dystopia like Baltimore or Chicago, for some strange reason. It's like these "WokeVolk" can't stand the idea that people of all races and backgrounds can be prosperous, successful, and get along peacefully, so they try to ruin wonderful places like Greensboro by sowing division, promoting delusions, and fetishizing victimhood. Hopefully, the Good People of Greensboro will see through these shenanigans, and will kick these radicals to the curb, and put people in government who are more interested in freedom, liberty and prosperity in the coming years...
I grew up in Greensboro. Agree with most of what you said, especially the affordability of housing. However, you are still hours away from mountains or the coast. That is the issue. There is just not much to really enjoy if you like the mountains or coast. I decided to pay more and live on the coast of FL and have another home on a mountain lake in Virginia. I am extremely happy I made the move and now live in places that contain exceptional beauty with tons of activities. I am a huge water person and can drive my boat to tons of great restaurants year round. If you are golfer and don't care much about living in the mountains or at the coast Greensboro is the place for you. I doubt there is a more affordable place in the country where you can play golf most of the year and purchase a home in a great neighborhood relatively cheap.
Thanks Jim. Being centrally located was a feature for me. I like the beach but far prefer the mountains…But the winter is too long. We go to the mountains at least twice a year and the beach typically once. There’s plenty of good hiking within 45-60 minutes too. Affordability and less congestion are a bonus. Anyway thanks for chiming in!
I'm not trying to tell people where to live but the cost of living for people that's living in Greensboro and the gas the food is outrageous but if you are from another state and your bills are higher than Greensboro by all means you will be okay just had to clarify that
I moved to Greensboro in August 22 after 18 years in Knoxville TN. The cost of food, power, cable, and gas blew me away compared to TN. Also the taxes are awful. I’m currently looking at other states to relocate to. Greensboro is ghetto as hell. There is nothing to do and the public schools here suck.
The cost of living is only lower because housing is cheaper. Groceries are just as high as the north. Summers are unbearable with humidity at 90 to 100% and temps 89+ sometimes in excess of 100.
I miss living there. Crime is high especially in a good portion of the east and south sides like East Market and Randleman road. I've moved up north but i hope to move back soon. Like Dorothy says "there's no place like home"
I love the honesty. I lived in Greensboro for ~1 month or so back in 2013. I had a lovely time. I lived in some of the dangerous areas but still felt safe. I went downtown daily and was looking for work but only until I was on the bus out of town did I get a callback from a place ;) Typical! I'd still be there otherwise. Thanks for the video. I might return some day. Curious about the University and teaching positions.
As a real estate agent, that is touchy territory. Safe can mean different things to you than it does to me. I recommend some of the crime mapping sites I mentioned to start, then visiting those areas to see of they have what you're looking for as far as amenities etc. If you'd like to talk in more detail, let me know!
New houses being built in many of the "Hood" part's of town. If being in that area is your thing have at it. For peace of mind and less stress look for places out of the city limits.
Looking at your homes, I was really surprised at how beautiful they were for 400K. Here in Los Angeles you can’t even get a small condo in an average neighborhood (no yard) for less than 700K. We’re looking at new homes in Palm Springs for retirement, but after looking around some of these beautiful places in the country, it makes me wonder why we’ve never left California…my best friend was from Greensboro and goes back home often.
I just got a job there and I'm going up in 3weeks so this helped ..also I'm coming from Miami sooo yea some crime is ok but we are buying a house in the mountains
Hello Jeff, my husband and I are also considering in moving to Greensboro, transfer to Publix warehouse. I too am concerned about racism, we are of hispanic origin. My husband is very light skinned and can pass as white but me and my son are indeed look hispanic. Please understand I primarily moved from my country to New York, long Island but moved to Florida in 2000..I'm thru with the 10 months of hot weather and love the change in seasons. But I'm a bit concerned. Please let me know if you only cover Greensboro since we are looking in surrounding areas as well...Pleasant Garden, Oak Ridge for example. Ty in advance for reading my long winded question.
Hi Maria! I understand your concern, and I've helped people of all races move here. That includes Hispanic people from NY and NJ. I think you'll find people here very nice for the most part. Yes, I cover all areas around the Triad. I plan to make videos about them soon, but please reach out to talk more about your move! Jeff
There is racism everywhere but the city is very diverse within the city and surrounding areas. Most of the white folks are woke and not racist in my experience. We have nice size Hispanic area as well. Now the more rural areas nearby like Salisbury, Lexington, Eden and Danville VA you will see it
Thanks for watching William! Greensboro gets an A+ on niche for diversity. 👉🏼 www.niche.com/places-to-live/greensboro-guilford-nc/residents/ I'm not now, but have been on interracial dates and never really noticed anything off or got crazy looks/comments. Hi, I spent much of my 20's living around College Hill / Westerwood / Glenwood. During the 1980's - 1990's UNCG was known as UNC-Gay. Greensboro has had a LONG history of diversity and activism whether it be in upper eduction , the arts, music (a long storied Punk Rock history here) and race relations. Greensboro has had it's ups and downs but it has maintained a strong relationship with other progressive communities like Chapel Hill and Durham. I hope that this helps. Cheers, Mates.
I'm from Greensboro. There's something called PRIDE which is a festival each year specifically for the LJBTQ community and it takes place downtown. I've never been but I know people who have and they say it's great.
Jeff, your videos have been helpful and informative. You were so right about how easy it is get around. We just spent the week in the Triad on our house hunt, we found a beautiful home within walking distance to so much. Excited to be moving to Greensboro in a couple of weeks and exploring our new city.
I've been watching videos about Greensboro quite a while now. Crime is slight compared to where I am currently (New Orleans). Besides that one guy that was like you'll find 🐍, this looks like a wonderful play to build a life. I am not ready to deal with snakes in the slightest.
My husband (Army veteran) and I are looking to relocate from CA and purchase a home in Greensboro but we still need to visit. My biggest concern is the racism (we’re African American) and with all due respect as a white person you’re free to move around and not have the same concerns as we do that’s just the reality
You should definitely come and visit! I have heard this concern before for sure, and I think you will be very comfortable. While I can't 100% relate I have worked with all sorts of people who have good things to say. I think you will find the Triad area very open.
I’m living here for law school, and I honestly can’t wait to get back to Atlanta. I haven’t experienced racism in the year and a half I’ve been here(in the Greensboro city limits) , but it gets really country really fast when you drive around. I don’t feel comfortable driving too far away from home at night because of how quick it turns to farm land. I went on a drive alone to a popular hiking location and saw signs that I wasn’t welcome so I turned around just to be safe. Greensboro itself I would say has decent tolerance, but if you go 10 minutes outside, i would not say the same thing. It’s really dark when you get outside of the main areas. If I could pick a city to live in, in North Carolina I would go for Charlotte. You’ll see when you visit, Greensboro is very small and very country. But im biased, im ready to jump ship and get out of here ASAP.
@@TinyT12311 Thanks for chiming in Athena. It can get rural outside of the immediate city and suburbs here, and a lot of other places in NC. Even Charlotte has less than half of the population of the Atalanta MSA, so there is no true "big city" experience here.
That’s also my biggest concern (also African American) currently live in Florida and would be relocating due to job expanding. Never experienced racism but heard the further north you travel it worsens
It is absolutely safe, but if you watch the news you may think otherwise. We are short over 100 officers, but that is a common theme lately in a lot of US cities. Jeff did a great job at pointing out that the crime is concentrated in very certain areas.
I'm currently watching a crime show about how communist and the klan clashed in 1979. Fast forward to 2021 and and the crime rate is horrific. So you got your way and now it's a big toilet bowl. Hmmmmm
Mate, you're way off on that comment! A peaceful rally to organize mill workers was violently attacked by the KKK in broad daylight ON CAMERA. The national news organizations came to town to cover a trial that ultimately let all of those "good ole boy" fascist c*nts walk. Crime is and has been bad in low income communities on the east and south sides of town for reasons well beyond your shite understanding of America.
