I love your German medieval/renaissance styles! There’s so much content for English and French styles, it’s wonderful to see what different and amazing styles can be found elsewhere during this period.
This is made even better by the fact that Barbie copied the Bild Lilli fashion doll that was circulating West Germany in the late 1950s, so your hot pink Swabian gown is very on theme with that! That ensemble truly is the stuff of dreams, one which you frequently see Barbie themed fairytale movies. Hopefully the temperature drops soon especially as we're reaching the end of summer, so you can enjoy wearing that outfit. PS, that Taco Bell experience right there is so sweet, we all need a little color now and then to brighten our lives~
the finished outfit was beautiful, and I love the sleeves! Thank you, though, for introducing me to a different way of making a headcovering! I've been trying to figure something out with my beads, handspun inkle bands, and some pretty fabric for summer, but the ones I was seeing didn't really seem like something I'd want to wear. To the craft room! (hope you can stay cool 🫠)
oh gosh, i love it!! the hat is epic! and the dress--unreal! that faux silk is to die for!! i wish i could have a skirt made from it--the pleating really brings out the beauty of the pattern without adding undue fullness. just enough swoosh!
It is so perfect and cool! I love the way the sleeves are done. I haven't seen that before. The open back to them is so silly, but elegant at the same time. Especially with the fancy ribbon and aglets.
I’m German and living in Colorado and looking for a dress from my home state (Baden-Württemberg/Swabia) to wear to Renn Faires over here and adore hot pink and would love this. Unfortunately I’ve never successfully sewed a solitary stitch so I’ll just go to Etsy and try to find something close lol. But I love this dress so much! I’m about to search, but would love to see your take on traditional Black Forest dresses, Bollenhut and all.
I’m Swabian (Stuttgart) and have only heard it pronounced sway-bian in English. This video was the first time I’ve heard alternative pronunciations of Swabia and Baden by an English-speaker. I only use “shv” when I’m speaking German/using German names
What a gorgeous hat and outfit! Those lacing rings are brilliant. I hate making eyelets for lacing because i usually mess them up because i get impatient. After more then 10 years i am making a new costume or 2. The kids have dragged me back into the SCA and i only have bits of old costumes. Currently i am working on a Persian one. I had a too small green silk caftan and caramel (or orange depending on the light) sari. I cut the caftan open in the front and used the trim from the sari (brown and gold) at the opening. I am making an under dress from the sari. I already had the pants. Next will be a boring European cotton gown for outdoors events.
Another truely awesome hat! The paintings of haube usually show them "poofed" out. Do you think they just had a lot of hair or would they have stuffed them with something?
It seems to be stuffed, or at least some added stuffing and/or structure! This one is fairly small compared to some but still has stuffing in the sides, otherwise it would be much flatter.
Question - How do you know that the binding tape was cut on the straight grain instead of the bias? They were obviously very frugal with fabric usage, I'm just curious where we figured that out!
This dress is amazing. I love that the style is size inclusive. I need to post on Instagram. But I have an awesome website and an Etsy store where I sell a lot of linen clothes, my tarot decks and my graphic novels.
The dress is gorgeous! Tho, you may regret those little rings...I used some on the front of a bodice and the lady who was helping me dress pulled on them like she would on a corset string...they broke off...don't let anyone help you get tied into your gown, I guess.
Can you give us more screen time of the source pictures and your beautiful dresses and hats while you narrate? You spent countless hours on this project but we only got to see the finished product for a few seconds.
Great content you are doing. Approved when Gf get home and shouted "stop looking at that bXtch look at me!.. point is the awesome videos you're making. She liked you too
Girl, sorry, I love you, but you got the map/region of Schwaben and where it lays with the "Roman Empire" a bit wrong. The region Schwaben that you are showing is in today's Germany, and Beieren. In the 1500's the Roman Empire did not excist anymore, and if it would, Schwaben would be more in the North of the Empire, for sure not the South East. As the city of Rome lays in Italy, to this day. Just to not have your subscribers that are interested not confused. (I live in the Netherlands, to the West of Germany, so a lot closer to it then you, I am not trying to be a smart ass, I could not tell you where the States in the U.S.A. are.) I love the dress you made!!! Much love, and thank you!
Not the Roman Empire - the Holy Roman Empire, which certainly was in its heyday in the 15th century! Please check out your history, the map is absolutely correct. An interesting, if very detailed account, can be found in Peter H. Wilson's "Heart of Europe", but even Wikipedia will put you right on that...

Such a refreshing take on the Barbie dress-making frenzy across the RUclipss

Thank you so much! OMG yes, your bard will be amazing with a haube! ♥️
Beautiful !!
What a fun outfit! I have a feeling if the swabians had fabrics like this back then, they totally would've made this
❤💗❤

It is so fun!! ❤❤❤
Hmmm love that hat. 😂I have a piece of ugly silk I was saving to make a sleep cap. May have found the style I’m gonna use for it!😉
Ooh that sounds amazing!!
Very pretty 😀

Thank you so much 😀
Beautiful gown- and I love all of your extra explanations und visual sources! Greetings from Germany ;)
Thank you so much and greetings!
Fun! Great colours!
Thank you! ♥️
Sh-vay-bian
Or at least that's how it's always been pronounced to me.
Loooove the look.
Awesome! Thank you and thanks for sharing that! ♥️
Why would you insert an H in the pronunciation? There's 'Swabian' and 'Schwaben/Schwäbisch' 🤔 I am honestly confused 😅

Fab project. I like your wreath as well.
Thanks so much! 😊
where do you get your lacing rings? the dress and cap are both absolutely gorgeous!!!
I used to get them at a local shop in LA but just ran out last year and found some pretty similar on AliExpress!

I don't know when you filmed this, and maybe it was back before things got so bad, but: we're KIND OF through a heat wave in Texas? Lol.

♥️🥰♥️
Are you at Pennsic? If so, teaching any classes?
I am not! I have a niece's wedding this year instead. Have a great time!

Likes. She made me your fan by together watching great video about the ancient Egyptian fashion.
👸
Your amazing new hat should have had stiffening in it to give it more body so it didn't flop...it should stand out.
It’s supposed to look like that tho
I'm new, you're smart...why TF was this in my feed? Anyway...good job

Hey, that is an interesting take because I am from said region and to me the map looks alright
@@mariaamaideach3567 Yes, but it is not the South Eastern region of Rome.. ❤ Much love!

@@Woeschhuesli You are correct, I missed "Holy". Thank you for pointing that out.
