Stop going to expensive schools. I attend Shawnee State University and my tuition is under $20,000 a year.

What students can do in these times of uncertainty, is forego that Bachelor of Arts degree in 17th Century South Eastern French Literature, and go to the mall and get a job; the same place they will go, after the degree. At least that way, they won't have $400,000 in life altering debt.

10 years later: Welding school charges 100,000 in tuition for students. It's not the education it's the business.

@@papawheelie5576 The problem is education is treated as a business. If more people start going to trade school. Then those schools will start raising their rates and tuition. Then the banks will get involved forcing them to jack up the prices. Then they'll introduce loans so you can afford to attend. With the promise that you're making a good investment, with a huge ROI. Rinse and repeat.

$100,000 per year? That is insane.

I mean not really? Your paying for some top tier education and the boost to ur career will be substantial when graduating from a school like this. However I wouldn’t recommend anyone attend these schools if they can’t afford to pay the Tution in full.

Is this why US citizens can’t afford college so the colleges are excepting foreign students because they can? Our government needs to do something about this situation! Give incentives to colleges that aren’t gouging Americans; put a ceiling on what colleges can charge or stop giving them aide. Americans first!

Don’t go to college if you do not major in STEM. It is not worth the cost. Many employers are now dropping their requirements to have a college degree. Student loans are the only loans where you do not have to put up any collateral. It is also the only loan you can not get rid of in bankruptcy.

Downside of not protecting consumers from price gouging. College is overrated anyways. Much better ways to lock in high salaries these days

If a partial or full ride scholarship is not available, more students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds should go to two-year community colleges that offer transfer pathways to 4 year state and private universities. Taking the community college route can save thousands of dollars in tuition down the road.

Hopefully this gets students to stop going to ridiculously expensive colleges for no reason when they can get mostly the same thing at their state school. Oh and make student loans not guaranteed.

Now they should add what percentage of the students are actually paying the sticker price. I would say 0. It gives them an opportunity to give out those "fake" merit based scholarships. It is cool to brag that you got 20k in scholarships even if it means you are paying still way more than what the cost is in state school.
