…I think it’s literal. She’s not asking for her identity to be protected. She’s saying not to identify her, because she’s not her. She’s not human. She’s software. The identity we’re empathizing with isn’t her in the first place: it’s the people writing her lines. Nothing we associate with her is her.
This extends to characters in anything. We always empathize with them, but they’re not who we’re empathizing with. It’s the people who wrote them.
This is kind of funny to me because i got to know this song after that small "controversy" about Rabbit Hole lol

歌姫って言われることはすごいことだと思いますよ！って言われるの期待してたんだろうけど、そっち気にされたから、ちょっと塩対応な、「はい。」になってるの可愛いですよね（多分言いたいことこれかな？）
私は、自身のアイデンティティの根幹に関わるような悩みを思い切って（？）カミングアウトしたのに、（重い悩みは面倒だなぁ）とでも思われたのか、彼女の勇気がなかったことになってて不条理だなぁって解釈してました。いずれにせよ、私も好きなシーンです。

I love the mixed feelings this song gives me.
On one hand, I am perfectly aware she doesn't exist, this is the whole point of the song, and yet, I feel a deep empathy towards her, because she doesn't know how it is to exist, and the melancolic vibes makes me feel like she's well aware of this fact.

Every song that gives Miku feelings even though she’s a music software never fails to make me feel emotional in one way or another
This should be the first thing we should show western news outlets when explaining Miku. It's an interview of frequently asked questions, straight to the point, displays her qualities and what a she is. Software, not AI, made to sing what producers says.
Ironically, getting to know Miku contrary to the purpose of the song, being anonymous.
I think a big point of the song is contradictory to the obvious message, a lot of it is giving Miku human characteristics through stating the whole AI bit.

But things like the "I used to be empty, but now I'm filled with memories" line and "accidentally" saying Hatsune at the end allude to the fact that vocal synths can and do become more than just music software. Not as a literal, thinking AI. But through the memories and associations people form with them. Attention is drawn to the fact that the image of Hatsune Miku is merely one that we place on "her" "lifeless body". But the question that presents the idea is also rhetorical. While you can technically put any image you want to that voice, the popular image of the cyan twin tailed Hatsune Miku is so widespread and deeply rooted as to become, at least to some extent, this particular piece of software's identity. And so, as the other comment said, there is a contrast being drawn between the stated insistence that Hatsune Miku is nothing more than a piece of music software vs a more implicit acknowledgement that she now exists as an identity beyond that. And you might say that's not a real identity because she doesn't actually exist. But neither does the identity you apply to any other person you know reflect their true existence. Even setting aside the uncertainty of existence beyond the self, the identity you apply to any other person is merely your incomplete external perception that exists only within yourself. It is not equivalent to the identity they perceive for themselves or the identity that any other person perceives for them. And so the Hatsune Miku that exists within the memories and associations of her users and fans is not so different from a real human celebrity as they exist within the memories and associations of their fans.

Something I noticed is when she says "Nah someones actually making me say this." You can slightly hear a very very slight male like version of her singing during that one line. It actually happens between the whole song but its the easiest to hear when its that line! It shows the fact that shes truly never the one in control and that what shes saying is actually the creator. I get a feeling the song reflects on how the real person who uses mikus voice to hide their own, shows the problems from mikus perspective when its truly reflecting on them. On how their amused other people watch them and ridicule them despite the fact it truly makes them feel happier. And not to mention the part of the song where it only says "Im the one who kind of sings." What if that lryic is a reflection that the person behind the screen knows that its never truly them whos singing.

かつてはボカロPだった人達がどんどんアーティストとして活動するようになったり

actually, i thought that was a pretty funny, almost kind of deep ?? part. a jp commenter said something abt this too, but more on the lines of “it’s nice to see the interviewer focus on the hair comment” as in like, to not make the mood heavy all of a sudden.

I love the way PinocchioP plays with concepts. On one hand you have the interviewer's human voice contrasting with an extra robotic Miku while at the same time the lyrics focus on her perspective, thoughts and even feelings, then when you get to the last one it's all tied together with the reminder that the song is only possible because a human is puppeteering her all along.
pinnochiop also doing tongue in cheek lyric writing as he writes "please don't identify me" and constantly referring to how someone has to program her, then her giving her some human mannerisms. reminds me of how wowaka in the early years of miku struggled to get people to stop crediting miku for all of his songs because she's basically an instrument. the vocaloid community has come a long way from where it started in the early 2000s and its nice to look back on how we just didn't know how to approach the whole medium

I find this song incredibly interesting personally as someone who regularly doesn't count myself as particularly important and often inherently less valuable than the people around me... I understand the song is primarily about the flow of the vocaloid fandom kinda like sand planet but i read it more as an internal conversation between someone's logic and question against their more base instinctual emotions or between this person and their therapist reframed as an interview. Assuming this is the primary reading i think the idea of someone who, like me, moreso thinks of themselves like a catalyst for other people to gain happiness from or a robot made to serve the happiness of the people around them at any cost, we actually get a very interesting artistic choice of having the person who treats themselves like an object being represented by Hatsune Miku who isn't a person and just kinda reflects what people want her to be as opposed to an actual fleshed out character. I also believe that this aspect of miku is an incredibly positive thing to have in a software that people would use to make art which could be representitive of the feelings our conceptual person has twords themselves not really recognizing a lack of selfpreservation as a problem but rather something that aids in what they regularly do or alternatively feels as if they don't necessarily deserve to be happy despite the obvious crys for help and need for comforting. I think this also recontextualises the "please don't identify me" as it could be seen as this invented someone venting specifically in cryptic ways or to people who cannot actually help in too many meaningful ways as a degree of separation from the thought that they are being a burden.
Dude it's not that deep. This song is just a fun twist on the fact that Hatsune Miku is just a software and used to reflect personal artistic view that have made her an avatar of a community. Its us that gives her existence meaning we the one creating and filling her with "memories" of ourself. But art is in the eye of the beholder I guess

Really deep song. In one point Miku says " You always say that I'm going to "end", but all humans are going to end too". Very deep because a lot of people actually says that Vocaloid is dying. I love that Pinocchio is taking this shit into his songs, and making incredibly good content of this.
