Born in 47, as a boy growing up some in the 50s, at night i would turn on that old Philco radio to Del Rio Texas and hear this. I love you dad and mom and the memories.
This song brings back lots of memories. I can still hear my mother (in my mind) calling “come on home Jim, it is supper time”. My brothers would come up for supper, mama would say wash your hands and come on, supper is getting cold.
I cannot count the times I listened as my father played this recording by Gov. Davis on a 45 rpm phonograph throughout my childhood. There was just something about the sincerity in Gov. Davis' voice in his singing and speaking the recitation in this song that touched me somewhere deep in my heart! From those days of early childhood until this moment, I have looked forward to the marriage supper of the Lamb of God in Heaven and have prepared myself to be there! After mother went to be with the Lord, this gospel song took an entirely new meaning for me. Ricky Van Shelton recorded a version of this song with three verses without the recitation. His last verse has special meaning for me: "In visions now I see her standing yonder, and her familiar voice I hear once more. The banquet table's ready up in Heaven, it's supper time upon the golden shore". My, what a day that will be! The great Assembly of God pastor, evangelist, gospel singer and song-writer, Rev. Ira Stanphill wrote this great song and I thank God that Gov. Jimmie Davis and so many others recorded it! What a blessing and my what golden memories this video brings back to me!
What a voice and the way he sings it it will bring tears to your eyes the more older you get the more sentimental you become one of a kind this was a dong that my late wife and I enjoy it very much and now she is gone to be with the LORD I had to stay behind but one day i will be walking side by side with her never to part any more

According to one source this is the first recording of this song in 1953.
Wow! Great old song but if that’s his actual autograph on the pic at the end of the song, he had off the chats penmanship!
Great rendition by Gov. Davis. Written by Ira Stanphill. Covered by many. Another very good version is by Stu Phillips.
