Electric Reel Spooling & Fishing (Daiwa Tanacom 1000)

- I finally got myself to buy an electric fishing reel. The Tanacom 1000 made by Daiwa. They also have smaller versions of this reel, the 750 and below and also a larger version the Tanacom 1100 bull series. After spooling this fishing reel and giving it a test run offshore I can say that I am super happy with my purchase!

In this video:
I have been told that hand spooling an electric reel won't work because people don't have enough tension on the line when winding it on. But after testing it offshore I didn't have any line bite or issues with the line being too loose. So take that world! A solution to loose fishing line on a reel would be to put a weight on the end of the line and then let your line out while you run the boat until all the line has been dragged off your reel and then wind it back it, but this wasn't necessary.
I also bought a Daiwa deep drop rod for the reel. The line I put on the reel is 65lb braid line by J-Braid which is also a Daiwa owned company.
At the end of the video you will see me testing the rod on my boat. And yes I manage to catch some fish. This is my first time using an electric reel so it was super excited. I will be upload the video of the fishing trip later this weekend so be sure to check back!

People are saying he took out the fun of fishing but tbh this is pretty useful for those who have fishing as a job not everybody fishes for fun and don't blame him either he's just reviewing a product
thanks man, so many people hating LOL oh well life goes on. There will always be complainers
reel is designed for very deep water and more towards commercial fishermen so its an awesome bit of kit.
Yeah true Bc it mate take some of it out of fish but seeing how fast that went and how long that took you would be there all day just Wheeling in line
You never know this kind of reel is very helpful to people who love to fish but had an accident and only have one arm like my father so I think this reel is awesome
Hell yeah brother
Nice job on showing us the basics on how to spool the Daiwa Tanacom 1000, which I'm about to buy also. I liked the tip on wetting the line first, good idea. The only flaw I saw, was that you fed the line of a vertical, stationary spool, instead of having the spool feed the line by also rotating; there is less chance of tangling the line. For those of you who think it takes the fun out of fishing, try reeling up a 4-lb weight, plus the weight of the fish, 500', 1000' or 1500 feet down, you'll do it once, and then go back to bass fishing :-)
thanks for the tip about keeping the spool not vertical! Cheers man
No way my wife could wind 4lb from even 50’ let alone 500. Not every fisherman is a bodybuilder.
Damn I’d love to have that setup for deep sea fishing. Amazing.
All of these comments suck this guy is just reviewing a product so that he can tell you if it is any good. He’s is spending the money for us, so we don’t have to buy it and then later say it sucks. Great video
heh thanks, yea a lot of mean comments lol. oh well life goes on
South Florida Fishing Channel most people are retards. It's so easy to sell them things so that's the positive. Cheers man fuck the haters.
@@SouthFloridaFishingChannel well at least now they know your new reel is better and as stated comes spooled
$5 to anyone who catches a bluegill on one of these
EM Fishing you wanna fucking bet
Is this a fuckin challenge?
You buy it I'll do it
Can I come to your pond? I’ll winch in one and get my $5
Chalange acepted already got reel
pretty good bass reel ya got there
It's obvious this is a ultra-light bluegill rod.....
BFS reel*
Luca206 idk I’d mostly use it for brown trout
Nah thats a crappie reep
It’s actually a minnow rod
I've been watching all your videos because I'm heading to Marathon 6-13-20 for a week. I just bought this rod and reel. I'm gathering all my tackle and making my own deep drop weights. Red Bull cans work great! I can't wait to spend the week fishing. I know that I'm a complete stranger, but I would sure like to go fishing with you one day while I'm down there. Thanks for the videos!!
Idk why everyone is so pissed off there is nothing fun about reeling in a fish from 600 ft deep
Stewart Mixtapes been there, done that. Long story short, yeah, that shit sucks. Especially when you do all that work for like a 2 Pound Mackerel.
Wtf do u say thats why u go fishing to fight a fish on a rod yourself XD
DickOswald exactly
i only want to do that if im gonna get a meal
Idk man have you seen "strongest man vs strongest fish" cause ive watched that video at least 8 times lmao
Heiko, The little knob on the right side of the reel is your spool tensioner. When dropping your weight, bait or jig, you NEVER have to put your thumb on the reel to prevent backlashes. Adjust the spool tensioner so that the spool allows the line to flow freely but under a little pressure to keep the reel from backlashing. Also remind yourself to back off the tensioner when reeling up so that you don't add pressure to the spool motor and avoid overheating. I have three of these Daiwas, two 1000s, one of which is 2 speed and a smaller S500J for 200 feet or less and primarily jigging. Best of Luck with the reel. Save the receipt, The reel has a lifetime guarantee and you can find the Miami repair center easily on google. i.e.(Daiwa warranty center)
Huge tip for deep droping for anyone who hasnt done it much get a rod holder directly at the stern of your boat when theres a strong current your line is going to be at an angle being pulled by the current and you will constantly have to keep letting out line with a rod at the stern you can simulate being anchored and never have to touch the rod until you get a fish. Your welcome
Way awesome set up. From a wheelchair this will be great now all I need is a boat lol 😝
imagine the slip knot comes off at the end and he has a mess of line
This is where my South Florida Fishing Channel addiction started!! Yeaahhhh bouuyyyy!!!
Best reel ever made me and my friend fishing every day in the Bahamas love to go for red snapper
160m to 0m. Dead fish INC
Great video! Needed this actually very useful.
Now that's cool as heck bro
Thanks! Yea I've always wanted to get one. It makes it possible to find fish real deep on slow days =) And you'd be surprised how much fun it is
i have this reel because i only have one hand so that is keeping me sane right now
shouldve lined up the feeder with position on the slip knot/attaching point,, yep line it up lol
That seems like so much fun man
Love it saves u time if ur tired fighting a big fish
Great review 👍 I want one now
very nice set up i grew up in Hollywood Florida and i always had mixed emotions on electric reels mostly because of lack of knowledge this video changed my opinion as now that i’m older i’m pretty cool with using new technology and ideas to make life easier and more enjoyable that reel would certainly make running back and forth to the Bahamas much nicer i also liked the way you set it up after moving from Florida i lived in Maryland for 20 years and i kept a boat on the Chesapeake Bay guys used to make fun of me on my way of stringing rods as i always loaded things up with plenty of strong stuff including wire leader as the worst thing that could happen was a Barracuda chomping your bait and getting away with everything talk about pissing you off almost as bad as watching one come up behind your catch and biting off half of it my last trip in the Carribean it happened twice on the same boat with Bullnose Dolphin i had plans for soft shell Tacos with both times only 50 yards off the transom so i had perfect sight of the incidents at a slow troll
Great video South Florida Fishing, I am reading lots of hate on this video and in don't think it is necessary, you are simply reviewing and using a product with some new technology and everyone is trying to roast you like your in 6th grade, from what it looks like to me, your still out there enjoying the sport and having fun. Keep up the great work and God bless. 👍
Josh A You’re
He seems happy.
Nice video actually. The tips was usefull for me.
Electric reel is pretty useful especially you offshore fishing for 2-3 days and in deep water, say 200-300 meters (1000 feet+), with heavy 2-3 kg weight. For those who hate and discriminate new technology, please swim to your offshore site in stead of taking speed boat.
for some people fishing is about getting food and not just for fun, also most people complaining are probably people who fish for bass in ponds, something a 12yo can do all day, try going in a boat with heavy weights and pulling a big fish from the deep, half way in the "fight" most would be dead tired and fishing would no longer be "fun"
pet carer you’re an idiot
This was really Interesting and informative
I like that reel, cranking 500+ feet with a good size fighting fish will give you a sore back and arms. Good choice in Daiwa, they make excellent fishing equipment. The joy of fishing is in catching fishes and not reeling for it is trivial. Yellow Tail.
Have people not see wicked tuna? This is a very useful tool to have, some people they do commercial fishing for a living where time is money and how many tuna they can get with each trip they goes out, I don’t think you would enjoying reeling in a couple 600+ lbs tuna in 1 day(let alone I don’t know how many conservative day they have to be out there for 1 season). But they enjoy being on the water and have a competition with their profession
Yea i'm trying to put some meat on the table when I go deep dropping! I spend $250+ on just gas! It's so much fun out there, i love it
I love your channel man. Keep up the good work! I am dying to know what type of top base you have for your water-separator? It looks very durable and cool too! Thanks, Larry
It's a Miller. You can see it close up in this video: ruclips.net/video/lk_5ugpK0DY/видео.html around the 3:50min mark. It's a beast
Just ordered, thanks man! If youre ever up in Savannah and want to fish, look me up!,, Larry
Awesome to here Larry! What are you fishing for up there?
Nice useful reel. We were dropping 350 feet on Monday for grouper using normal reels. It was a painful and tiring to get our 20 ounce weights back to the top.
yea it really allows for more drops and your arms don't die. I have to pull the anchor enough later in the day when we bottom fish LOL
Great video Bro 🎣🎣🎣
Nice, looks like a Blueline Tile. You know you can set the reel to read in feet too.
awesome video
Great vid how has it worked since? Also line should come off from spool top to come on reel top (top to top) horizontal unless that does not apply here.
Thank you for posting.
Great vid
When you do something for yourself you appreciate it more. Nice video to watch enjoy your new investment brother
For people that don't spool their own reels often, you really shouldn't fill it that high with a regular conventional. You will retrieve it and won't ha e enough tension. The line will expand from not being under pressure and will lock up your reel from hitting the frame . Good vid.
Good video! I'm going to go get one in 2 weeks! Payday LOL.
I like electric reels I love the idea about them and how they work I have a electric Shimano Beastmaster 9000 on it's way top-of-the-line I can't wait to start learning and practicing on how it works that fish he is holding has got me thinking could it be a hapuka or a blue nose or a bass it's got to be one of them I reckon maybe a blue nose or a bass
Just curious is this reel still holding up? I was looking into hopefully getting one for Christmas
12:50 that was a close backlash
Good vid👍🏻👍🏻
Good video. Question: have you ever do trolling with the Tanacom?
Since I go out alone many times, I would like to find the way to set al alarm on it for bites. Do you know how to do it? That would be a great video.
Can you make a video where you takes this reel out and fish
I really love your channels bro...I hope one day we can fish togethter
Stop saying it’s not fishing because personally in freshwater when your fighting a sturgeon you want to switch off because you’re arms feel like noodles so you give it to someone else, but what if your by yourself well this is perfect for that
Awesome review man, keep it up! But damn that reel literally does all the work, I didn’t even know they made reels like that lol 😂 I need one for surf fishing 😉
Personally, I would never in my life pay $1,000 for a reel, and this one is no exception. But I was very curious about this one and your video was the most useful. Thanks.
u can get a decent electric reel for $300 used on eBay
@Neo Papa check ebay, there are tons of daiwa, shimano japanese reels.....
@Neo Papa sure...if you say so
Well keep playing with your goldfish son, let the big boys do their thing
I wonder how much weight its capable of pulling or if dosent really matter how heavy the fish as long as the rod is strong? I really need an answer
Good vid
I don’t get it, electric reel?
This takes the fun out of fishing
Did you get enough pressure with just spoiling that braid. Seems like you would lose drag pressure due to no electrical tape or backing on the reel.
I dare use to cast a minnow on a hook with that thing
I’m just curious Is there a more portable battery solution or does it need to be connected to a car battery.
Beautiful rod 👀
And reel too I ment lol hahahahah😂🤣😎
cool reel
For the people commenting on the electric reel don’t know what they are talking about. As a boat owner myself that goes offshore all the time by myself.. the electric reel is a big relief at times. I have tons of non electric Reels ready to go in my rod holders for manual fun, as well as my electric reels. Getting up early, getting all your ice, bait, goodies, fuel, launching boat, constantly making sure everything is running properly, going way out to your destination, setting up your rig to fish, pulling in huge monsters over and over is 500 plus deep water for hours. Your going to be exhausted. So later on in the day or before if you like, the electric reel gives me the same excitement to catch that fish but saves me more energy if I’m tired. All fisherman guys and girls will 100% get what I’m saying.
I agree. I felt the same way as they did until I went on a 24 hour fishing trip, with depths up to 800 feet of water. I guess they negative comments come from people that fish in lakes and ponds.
waverly rowe couldn’t agree more👍🏾
How can I get this electric reel easy when I'm at south africa
good one
At very first glance it looked a lot like a pip-boy from fallout
hah that's funny
I thought fishing was all about the fight.
uBreakIt iRepairIt same this anit fishing
Yeah same and he didn’t even show the fish
uBreakIt iRepairIt true
Reeling a tuna marlon what ever is really hard it can sometimes take hours and it can mess up ur hand and arm
My uncles hand and arm is really messed up and he can barely move it
Commercial fishing. Less chance of bycatcg
I used a 200lb windon leader, i made a bimini twist in the braid, then cat's pawed the loops. then when fishing i can knot on a HD clip for terminal tackle sometimes braid is super slick. so double up on knots...
how much 200lb leader do you use?
depends, how much braid is on the spool. before it starts to jam. but i would say 15 feet.. as long as you have some mono acting as the shock you be fine. im after swords as well as bottom fish. so come night time i can switch rigs for swords...
how many lb of leader you suggest for this 65lb J~braid??
Look how much he changes the subject 😂
How much 65# Jbraid were you able to fit on your reel? Also, do you like the reel still? Thinking of grabbing one and spooling with 120 braid
I would put at least 80#. Had my 65# break a couple times. I fit a TON. More than enough to fish 1700ft
It took a long time spool that up
I'm using a tanacom 1000 for the first time, and I can't get it to retrieve continuously. How do I take it off the jigging feature?
Sweet, but, I was hoping to see the fish you caught at the end. How many pounds can that reel pull? Like if you had a 750lb fish would it pull it in, in electric mode?
Imagine the backlash
Nice printer. They use these tanacoms for fishing the kite for bluefin
I’m going to put 65 pound braid on a lews Mach 2 for a frogging rod and he’s using 65 pound braid on a big saltwater rod lol 😂!!!
Yeah i dont get it why only 65lb on big reel like that?
Jakelol1980 ik 🤷🏻♂️
What’s your set up bro and did you buy everything online or at your local store ? Would appreciate your feed back asap
The thing is that the line is going to spin on the reel anyway
Waoowww....😍😍😍😍
this good for people who has arthritis in there hand
Or for people that want to hold a beer in one hand =) LOL
Hello captain! I have a question (and maybe an idea for a video from you)
I’m planning on going trolling with my Tanacom 1000. As I’m sure you know, the user manual is a pain in the butt and I need to find out how to se up the alarm for bites so I can know when there’s a fish on.
Can you help me (us) with it?
Thanks!!!!
I paid for someone at my tackle shop to spool 2 of these and terrible job wish I watched this before and did it myself
Im all for new tech but these reels should have some type of regulation on them. They should have some type of electronic limiter placed on them where they cant retrieve line any faster than the average angler can hand crank the line. Giving the fish a chance to fight, instead of winching them out of the water so fast they dont get a chance to fight for their lives. Hell write it into the reels program. Low torque with high retrieve speed when spooling line. High torque with lower retrieve speed when reeling in a fish.
interesting reel... why so many colors on that fishing line again? im learnin....
every 10 yards the color changes. Helps you keep track of how much line is going out and coming in. It's also pretty! lol
You didnt put enough tension on the line mate your braid will cut into the layers
can you take this thing to the beach run big baits out on a kayak and do a catch and cook off the beach maybe run it off the truck?
hah now that's an idea!
Blue line tile fish. But how deep were you fishing it looked like you fought it at 160ft and they are way deeper than that
160 meters or roughly 480 ft
good teacher
That just takes all the fun out of fishing
reeling a 5 pound lead weight from 1700 feet takes all the fun out of fishing lol! Go check out my swordfish video
@@SouthFloridaFishingChannel wow how lazy and also why do u need a ten pound lead in new Zealand we reel big swords like 700 pound range up by hand but what's the point in a ten pound weight we use either breakaway weights or just I think around a couple pounds of lead why don't u work for such a prized fish as a swordfish
Im going to get it for shark fishing
Have you tried high speed trolling for wahoo with this reel? Would you recommend it?
thanks
Nice one Wr u bought that
Man it sucks that the only electric reel you can find here in the US are the Tanacom reels. Japan has a bunch of different electric reels in different size ranges some as big as a regular bass reel. Pretty expensive too!
i use electrical tape on the spool and over the braid with a knot on the spool on my reels.
The fish you caught was a golden tilefish
nice no worries of backlash. lol
Now I've never fished a ocean is it possible to backlash a reel like that
100% yea you can
Also how big of fish dude you get on the reel
I’m in Australia........and my family has 2 electric reels for deep drop but............my family uses the command X-8 and the command X-9 they’re good reels for deep drop.
