- This is my first of many other video essays that I've filmed and this one made it to the finishing line as I finally was confident enough to share it. This took me literal days to edit and also find bits of footage from the show.
This show is honestly amazing but it also comes with heavy caution and trigger warnings.

Nanno is stated to be "the devil's daughter or the snake in the garden of Eden." She never originally died, she was never mortal. Nanno learns sympathy, empathy and even love. She changes and grows as she experiences humanity and mortality.
She's the embodiment of karma, and yuri is the embodiment of revenge.
I thought of it as this as well!! When Yuri appeared in the True love ep, I was wandering "what does Karma love?" Justice came to mind but in the last ep they wete both "judges"...which leads me to think of them as the Fates. They are 3 now
Junko is def chaos
That's what I've always thought. Karma and revenge just feel so fitting
16:44 Nanno has often stated that she hates flowers for no reason in particular.
So i find it interesting that she "died" in a flower field--surrounded by the things she despises.
It might be due to the flowers received from Tap (or Tan I think)
@@patricia071
I don't think so, because she began saying that she hates flowers during episode 2 of season 1, I believe. One of the guys leaves a flower on Nanno's desk and she tells one other girl to take it since she doesn't want it. She doesn't give any explanation other than "I just hate flowers".
I don't think her hatred for flowers is ever explained.
I'm late to this, but who cares. I personally interpreted it as not being a hatred of flowers per say, but rather a hatred of her fate. We learn from the outset that Nanno is immortal and, as the daughter of Mara (demon king of karma in Buddhism), she also has some special abilities. One of these is being omniscient, all-knowing and able to see into past, present and future events even when she's not around for them. There are some moments where this is questioned, such as her surprise when falling in love with Tk as she clearly didn't expect it or see it coming. However, the fact that she "dies" in flowers might be foreshadowing of her death at the end, which influenced her reaction to them. She must've been aware of her supposed demise at the end and this is where she grew to dislike flowers, as she knew all along that Yuri would leave her in them.
Also, an interesting fact, but as she's the daughter of Mara, it might be that she hates flowers because when Mara tried to stop Buddha from attaining enlightenment, he and his army shot arrows at him. These arrows turned into flowers before the Buddha, who didn't stop meditating. Her hatred of flowers could stem from the fact that Mara himself was essentially taken down by his own arrows turning into flowers!

This comment was very insightful!
Although, I have to say that I don't think she didn't see it coming when she fell in love with TK.
The plan was to make him get attached to her in order to punish him once she left. The whole goal was to make him lose the one thing he truly wanted.
Then again, maybe her *actually* falling in love took her by surprise.
@@serena841 I'm so glad it was insightful for you :))
Yes, I think she knew what her own intentions were and she was aware of how HE would get attached considering how well-educated she is in human emotion. But I think it took her by surprise how she actually fell in love and got too invested. She knew how people would typically feel in this situation and that she'd have to form an intimate bond with him in order to deliver karma, but that look of longing when she glances at Tk at the end of the episode just proves that not only was she not anticipating that kind of reaction from herself, but also that she wasn't expecting to get so DEEP into the role that she actually caught feelings.
I’m surprised that TK wasn’t mentioned, since he was one of the only few people Nanno felt remorse for
17:33 Nanno was shown to be alive after Junko and Yuri went their separate ways, watching the two from afar off the top of a building.
I always thought she was the embodiment of karma but her last line really threw me off wondering..."the people seem to make their own justice - will I be needed anymore?"
I think it's because of yuri.yuri act's as those people who believe that there's no karma that's why they should be the karma and give justice on their own.it's like you hold the justice on your hand instead of letting the police or perhaps the karma do their job.
It also symbolizes that yuri wanting to replace nanno's position
We saw in the colourless school episode that all versions of Nanno exist at the same time. The version that dyed her hair purple, the version that got impaled, the version wearing green ribbons. So nanno doesn't die, I think. She spawns, she multiples. She isn't ever dead cuz another clone with her memories and abilities comes up but the version before her definitely goes through the brutal pain. That version is still very much alive. I hope that explains why even in the last episode, nanno died in the garden and was alive later. Yuri said "it doesn't heal, huh?" But in the school episode, it was clear that it heals just to the point that the signs of injury stay it doesn't become as if it never happened. It never healed anyway. Nanno cannot become a mortal.
People keep referring to Nanno as Karma and Yuri as Vengeance which makes me assume the new girl is Hatred, I just have a sneaky suspicion that it was all apart the characters plan (Nanno) but I guess we have to wait and see
I think there’s something quite off in the statement “Nanno is there to get revenge”. As we notice, and as you stated, every single one of the people getting punished in this series have wronged Nanno in one way or another. She gets people what they deserve, and that’s karma, not revenge: the very few, (mainly) good people she has befriended and haven’t wronged her or other people got out of the episodes’ situations unharmed and even happy, look at the girl she befriended during “Liberation”: she doesn’t appear much, but she explicitly is let out of the school along with Nanno because she had a clean conscience the whole time.
This pattern of healthy friendship between Nanno and another student almost never occurs, but it’s something that proves that Nanno doesn’t take revenge, otherwise she would try to actively make people in the wrong (making her side of the story wrong as a consequence), she’s just doing her job as a “judge”, as how you called her.
I agree! Nano doesn't force or manipulate anyone to do anything. They all choose to do something terrible of their own free will. She merely provides the temptation. If any one of them would have done the right thing they would have never been punished but because they all chose to make a terrible decision. They suffer the consequences for it. Nano is obviously much older than she appears, and I assume she can probably sense people's intentions and sense when someone is a bad person.
@cherrychaeryeong2461 I mean I'm not sure if the teacher's daughter dying was because of Nanno, but it doesn't make sense in both cases. On JennyX's behalf though, she was still pushed over the edge by Yuri. Although she's not entirely at fault, she's still the one who committed murder.
Nanno also does this sometimes, like in episode two season one when she commented on that girl's weight to make her angry
So about the flashback episode, Nanno is presumed to be able to choose how she appears, thus why she had wounds when she showed up to class. She plays the long game, in this case pulling everyone to act that way then to reap on their actions at the reunion
Bruhhh Nanno was the one who listens to Juan's story. She is the one who knew both sides of the story. Yuri still helped Junko. Even though she knew that Junko is the evil one.
I already watched this but I’m tempted to watch it again it was so good
nah, Nanno isn't good nor evil, she simply put mirror on someone which basically karma, if they did evil then it shows evil, but if its good then it shows good. Yuri is embodiment of pure evil, everything is about revenge
I never noticed this until now but Yuri’s hair is in a pony tail symbolising her controlled chaos method. I wouldn’t point this out if her hair wasn’t tied up with a red ribbon alluding to her vengeful ways. Whereas Nanno’s hair is down symbolising her natural chaos method. The saying let your hair down comes to mind meaning relax and enjoy/enjoy the chaos that Nanno let fall into place.
Nanno’s real name is revealed in episode 3 at the plaque her real name is I think a Buddhist demon that had 3 daughters also this demon was male possibly explaining how she got that guy pregnant in 2x01. One of these demons daughters was the embodiment of revenge while the other I think something relating to Junko I can’t remember.
One thing in 1x02 Nanno says to those girls she hates flowers the Buddhist demon also hates flowers in it’s lore something about war? 😭 Nanno died in a feild of flowers-
Ah, I have it now so the demons name is Mara Amaratayakul, Māra meaning demon, this demon has 3 daughters Trsnā, Rati, and Rāga (Thirst, Desire, and Delight)
Yuri: Delight
Junko: Thirst
Nannai’s daughter: Desire
All theories though. 🤷
I feel like Nanno protects another girl who might've gotten treated the way she did instead.
I went to go watch your video after watching the series just to thank you for introducing me to it but saw it got taken down. I'm thrilled you re-uploaded it so I could do so properly. The season one episode on money and greed was absolutely thrilling and might be my favorite episode so far. I just finished Wonderwall pt.2 and can NOT wait to see more of Nanno doing Nanno things.
Wonder wall is the most goated story in the series. So good it had to be a 2 parter
This show was strange but it was actually well written. A good watch if you can handle it
Ok i have a theory what if nanno had already planned in last secound ep that she was loosing imortality but she was not and she planned all of it till yuri kills her and maybe she is planning something even darker because nanno was always smart and can maniululate someone in thinking something that aint real
Her name meaning Karma. She is there to help people and hurt people. And the fact that episodes are based on true events. I strongly believe she is made to be Karma to the events that actually happened
She only help people who repent from their mistakes and want to better themselves or people who needed help and people who take accountability for their actions. She only hurt and hex people who didn't better themselves, people who don't learn from their mistakes and people who don't take responsibilty for their deeds and people who are narcissists
I had this video saved for later and I wondered where it went. I'm glad it's back up now and I'll watch it right away. I love how Nanno is truly like a devil on your shoulder where she tempts you to so bad things but since she's Thai Karma she won't only punish you, but gives you what you deserve. So obviously it's usually bad Karma but that stealing guy got good Karma because he didn't try to blame her at the end.
That's also why I don't really think she was a human before? Because I'm almost certain any human with her kind of power would turn out like Yuri. Because humans can't help falling revenge. And yes, sometimes her punishments feel out of pocket but as I already said, she also deals good Karma🤔
But then again.... Yuri got her power only after dying so like idek.
I do not believe that Nanno died at the end of s2 (because yeah, I don't think she was human to begin with) but who knows.
It's definitely very fascinating.
S3 is gonna be chaotic af.
She is seen at the very end watching them from a far
@@cosmofate9960 I mean tbf we only saw her shape. Maybe they'll create a new Nanno with the same body?
i started watching ur video before the series, after like 1 minute i was like okay im gonna watch it first and then come back so i can fully understand this video and im so glad you reuploaded it
Great video! Went to rewatch but saw it was taken down. Glad I found it
This is a fantastic video essay. Can't wait to see more.
i just finished rewatching this show. i saved this video for later and was sad its gone. but im here to watch it now! :D
Stopped watching girl from nowhere when it came out after 6 episodes, but started to watch your video and paused it so I can watch the show completely first before finishing your video. Your video motivated me to finish the show and I was sad when I couldn't find it here on youtube :< Glad it's back!
i feel like nannos reason to be in this world isn't just giving karma, she's also studying and learning from people behavior and i also think that the ending will lead nanno into becoming a normal being and finally live her life as a mortal with tk
Nanno is not dead she is seen watching them from a far she planned to retire
I love this video, thank you for this review :3
I just love this show😭❤️
Great video! I watched it twicw before to get the complete experience and now I'm watching it again!
Keep up the great job! You deserve more subs!
You are wrong! In the last episode of season 2, it's not Yuri who shows the other side. it is still Nanno.
I literally found and watched this show so I could watch this video
I love this video- and your interpretation of the show! Im not sure i fully buy her being the daughter of the devil or whatever. While her role in the seroies is definitely to enable peoples worst instincts, i like the idea that she was once human. Mostly because i feel like it gives more context to her regret later in the series
Season 3 is coming though 😭
Ep03 was the first to show Nanno as a delusional hypocrite psycho
The girl in the story needed to be pushed so hard into doing something wrong because of how resistant and hesitant she was. She was eventually practically forced into plagiarising art and then got her social life and image dilapidated for it.
Like if a bit of jealousy is all it takes to want to ruin a teenagers life, then that is already way beyond wanting to prove humans are the worst. That is framing them as such then torturing them for it. She basically wanted to see someone in pain with bogus reasoning as an excuse.
Nanno was a hateable character in that episode
Your comment is proving you did not understand the show whatsoever. In that episode the girl was pushed by her own accord because she was jealous that her friend got an award and was being praised. Even going so far to frame her friend for “breaking her arm”. She plagiarized so many artists artwork and got off with no repercussions from the school.
The one thing Nanno did was make her realize that her jealousy and envy would cause her to lose people close to her. She lost her friend because of her own selfishness. Nanno literally told her to “copy and paste” she didn’t actually push her into doing anything. So explain to me again how Nanno was the “psychopath that got off to people being hurt.”
The first couple episodes start off strong with each of them following a theme. That episode was based around envy and what people would do to get attention. It was so blatantly obvious that I’m quite confused that you watched the episode and thought Nanno had a “bogus reason” when she didn’t even punish her harshly she just made her regret her decisions for being a shitty person. Her job is to judge those who are morally corrupt. She didn’t really push them to anything since some of them were already guilty of these actions. And we have a few episodes with her actually helping people.
Your comment is proving you didnt understand the show nor my comment whatsoever.
In that episode a teen was jealous of a friend in a highly competitive education system (jealousy justified). That was all it took for her to be a target, after which she was made to believe the "secret" to success is "inspiration" and everyone is doing it. Her believing the lies went with it, and even then was hesitant to submit her work, which nanno had to do for her, leading her to a really shitty situation.
After that people wanted more, and to keep the lie going more plagiarism was required. Later she broke her own arm to avoid going on stage and "country wide" embarrassment which nanno set her up for.
I get that pinning it on a friend, she was jealous of, was stupid, but given the context; the stupidity of a teenager, the fear of public judgement /stages at that age, it makes sense.
There was just too much intervention here to jump from justified jealousy to public humiliation and a hurt social image in such a competitive environment. There is even potential for further damage to her growth as a person.
Friends argue and get back together, that is very common and could have very much been the case here if not for all the involvement.
Now compare that to nannos previous targets which were cold-blooded killers or r****ts, and it is clear how black and white her outlook on humans is. Its just that this is the first episode where this was evident. Which was the point of the show given the last episodes.
It wasn't psychopathy gotta backtrack there, but definetly a display of delusion, hyporacy, and oblivion.
@@dark6.6E-34 I stopped reading after I saw the “jealousy was justified.” So it was justified for her to frame her friend for breaking her arm and even gaslighting her??? And you’re bringing up Nanno only going after “cold blooded killers” which is so funny to me bc like you clearly stopped watching after like three episodes. She went after different types of morally corrupt people. We have episodes with peoples greed and pride being their downfall, their desires, their personality and the way they treat people etc. there were so many different episodes and different people being judged. We have a few episodes where she goes to schools to help some people instead of punishing anyone.
Her outlook isn’t “black and white” because there wasn’t even an episode where she unjustly punished somebody. You’re trying so hard to use s1e ep3 as a justification for why Nanno was a “psychopath,” when she clearly targeted somebody’s who’s own insecurities, pride, and jealousy set them up the entire episode. The girl wasn’t even harshly punished that episode and this is how I know you’re lying bc you said she got “defamed and humiliated” when at the end of the episode people were still cheering for her and ignoring the artists calling her out for stealing their art work. The worst she got that episode was losing her friend and realizing that her jealousy would cost her more than that in the future. But she was too self absorbed that she didn’t see that.
@@dark6.6E-34 She chose to blackmail her friend and tried to take credit for work that wasn't hers, copyright infringement. She also kept denying the fact that she plagerised and was a scumbag. She got punished by being humiliated in front of everyone because she lied to everyone. She didn't die or lose anyone, her family was still there. She just lives with the guilt that she is a fraud. She doesn't deserve death, but she deserves to know that cheating is not how you get better
I just found the video yesterday night and only watched half of it, I was wondering where it went lol
Fear not my dear. I made the video much better for the audience :)
It kinda reminds me of the anime Hell Girl. Very cool. 💜
Omg that’s the first thing I said when I saw it really cool
She is the devils daughter and the definition of karma
I love nanno!!

What happen to the previous video? Was watching halfway and it was privated.
Copyright problems and sound issues that needed attending to
Where is the link to the Tomie video?
the school stuff is also inspired a lot by the thai “bad students” movement !!
Nanno translates to Karma.
Question where do you live that you've been in lockdown for 2 years?!?? We were in lockdown for 3 months in 2020 then everything went back to normal! I hope you're okay
this is pog
Thank you so much this brought a tear to my eye
@@loopsiedaisie This is so Pog thank you bro
Wait I just thought of something what happens if the last episode is actually the start and the first episode is the last because she gets killed on the last episode and the episode before Yuri's they remember eachother! It's hard to explain but what if in the last episode where she dies makes her immortal idk it hard to explain but I know what I mean
This is weird. But I had a conversation with a friend about karma before continuing this show and he introduced me to the idea of QUANTUM Karma....in quantum, the future as we know it, actuallt affects the past
I was actually planning on searching about it but seeing this comment blows my mind, it does make sense in a way!
And the whole idea of "quantum karma" is that in the quantum field, everything that CAN happen, already happened. So the consequences would not be the result but the cause. Your reaction to the result is your karma. " your karma is how you react"
@@patricia071 woahhh this makes so much sense thank you!
why did you reupload it?
They age restricted the video so I went in and had to redo some parts of the video that I couldn’t actually edit in the RUclips editor :/ Also fixed the loud ass background music so I can be heard better
Chicha amatayakul stated on her insta that Nanno is satans daughter and because of that does what she does. Basicly, she is karma and Yuri is revenge.
Nanno represents karma
Why’d you re-upload?
I wasn’t happy with the sound quality as my voice was overshadowed by the music. So I fixed that up. Also had to change a bunch of things to avoid copyright problems again :/
I love when narcissists analyze my characters…
The show is so interesting, as a lesbian I really loved seeing the lesbian couple in one of the episodes
yea i agree, but why did it look like one of them is 50-60 and the other 20-30. that made it weird idk🥲
