I picture it being the last transmission of soldier to their loved ones, watching the debris shoot past their spacecraft's window, as they plummet to a planet uncontrollably, implying for the their loved ones to keep hoping for the war to be over, and "homeward" being a metaphor for the end of the soldiers life, or just a way to convince the loved one that the soldier will be okay, finding peace in death...

6 years later and this song is still a great for getting the hype going, with the Second Collapse thwarted, the Witness destroyed, and unlocking more abilities, all harkens back to being Fireborn.
Same, I played it until Shadowkeep. When I saw the content of Beyond Light, it was not worth the price. The lore of Beyond Light is great, but poor content and now there's a ton of expansions and Season passes. The bad guy was always Bungie.
It makes me sad that there will be no more Guardians who get to experience the thrill of D2 launch. Yes, the game ended up being pretty thin post story, but for D1 vets, feeling this weak with double primaries and nearly getting killed by Ghaul, only to get right back up and kick ass... The Red War had some incredible moments now in the vault, completely impossible to relive.

It makes me sad that there will be no more Guardians who get to experience the thrill of D2 launch. Yes, the game ended up being pretty thin post story, but for D1 vets, feeling this weak with double primaries and nearly getting killed by Ghaul, only to get right back up and kick ass... The Red War had some incredible moments now in the vault, completely impossible to relive.
