Amazing video! Very helpful with our ongoing nightmare of excessive frame flex. Ours is a 2022 395MSR
Already had ours send back, but now we see it starting over again, the wall beside bed is starting to roll up the side wall on right side of bed, first time the fifth wheel hich came up in bedroom and destroy cabin above bed, they came and got it and brought it back after it was done, oh it 2020 351 Momentum.

I’m shocked by the continued loyalty to GD by some RUclipsrs towing GD products. Have to wonder if those channels receive big perks for that loyalty.
Yes, I agree 100% and especially after I got to briefly talk to one during their eclipse rally. It affects their own brands when they turn their back on the RV community who helped them build their channels.
The rv manufacturers have turned my passion into a joke. I’m pissed. I cal Lippert, LIEppert. I call Grand Design, Grand Deception for a reason.
For the money some of y’all spend on the grand design and other such name brands why not go to one of these smaller makers like spacecraft mfg or peak mountain camps and get a quality rig built.

Edit: But for real though this is amazing now that's I'm watching bringing attention to these horrible issues especially when they're wanting to make EVEN more money so cutting corners. It's disgusting. Companies used to care about their product but sadly times have changed. It's money over reputation now and it's easy to pay for ads or people to talk it up and still make more by cutting the corners making it a trash product.
Though to say "I let them talk" or say whatever when it comes to reddit is pretty ridiculous to anyone that knows the hive mind there. You don't allow them to say anything, it's the wold west in all the bad ways. That was weird for me so just wanted to mention. I bet even the guy in this video mods and steers the conversation. Reddit is seriously so bad and this is coming from a 6 year user and trying to use youtube instead because of how toxic and one sided reddit is.
Hell even something as small as candle making for example, if you use an ingredient that is safe but most are against, you're screwed 🤣 Reddit is just not a good place to see all view points so I put no faith in this now.

Chris, I think you may have bought into the misinformation the dealers and manufacturers have gaslighted customers with. They are cutting corners and exaggerating the rig capabilities, all to make more profit. Now it's time to pay for their actions.

@GDRVMajorIssues First, I meant no disrespect to Chris, I enjoy his down to earth perspectives and find him a great information Resource. My comment comes from about the 27 min mark when discussing the lighter materials and larger units. It caught me a little off guard when Chris seemed to repeat the manufacturer excuses. It was the way I heard it, but certain it's not what he believes.

I'm confused Pete west complains "the travel trailer frames are not a 1/4"" are any RV frames that thick? like do you even realize how thick of steel that is? A 60k semi frame is that thick
Granted it would be strong as hell, I don't want to buy a semi or have the funds to do so

@@WestsontheMove 12:25 timestamp and forward is when you reference TT frames and I beam size. As well I'm not an engineer and don't pretend to be one, however I'm curious on where you get the basis of needing to be 1/4" frames. Yes that would be stronger but how do you know the issue isn't improper steel metallurgy? I'm trying to find the root of the problem and who is responsible. Lippert isn't going to tell any manufacture if they change the metallurgy (I honestly imagine they don't even know. That's where it goes back to who is Lippert buying steel from) Is this something that statistically the steel thickness is correct for weight due to engineer steel datasheets? Or is it something that that size steel isn't rated for application? Again I'm not an engineer so I cant say one way or another, however you speak like you know these statistics so wondering where you get this info to say they absolutely should by 1/4"?
@@Yeppers-j8x Actually, I didn't say that the travel trailers should be 1/4" I-beams but if you go to timestamp 13:38, I did say that their 5th wheel toy haulers should be 1/4" I-beams. I did say we are seeing a number of travel trailers with "cracked I-beams" though and no where in there did I say travel trailers should have 1/4" I-beams. I stand by that. If you are going to quote me, quote me correctly. You may want to go back through that. Now as far as metallurgy, you could be right because there have been strong suggestions that the steel was purchased by U.S. companies from China but are advertising this steel as Made in U.S.A. Now given the cracking in travel trailer RVs alone would make me suspicious of this being true but neither Lippert or any other RV assembly company will admit to this due to liability and possibly not meeting U.S. steel standards. That is outside my wheelhouse but givcen how cheaply made these frames are made and spec'd by companies like Grand Design, it could very possibly be true.
Now, one of our members as you saw is rebuilding or I should say restrengthening his frame on his Momentum. He is a structural engineer and welder and he took a core sample of his I-beam frame and the measurements are 3/16 inch (0.188) at 0.168 inch. These are supposed to be toy haulers and should have stronger/thicker I-beams but Grand Design spec'd it and Grand Design is ultimately responsible to their customers who buy their CRAP! Yes, Lippert is completely responsible for their welds and maybe even the quality of the steel they buy. They both should be doing a better job at quality control and clearly they are not. Again though, Grand Design accepted these faulty welded frames and continued to build more than one floor plan on frames that maybe even Lippert didn't know about. My guess is they probably know this was happening and never questioned it. Yes, they should both be held accountable for this! Well this is all I have time for right now so I'll end here.
