The populations of feral parrots in Los Angeles and Bakersfield are due to natural disasters wiping out a couple of pet stores -- fire caused the store owner to release the birds rather than see them die cruelly, and a huge windstorm that de-roofed an aviary.
They're not actually a huge problem in these two urban areas. The species they compete with are abundant and well able to take care of themselves -- jays, woodpeckers, starlings, grackles, corvids. Hawks keep numbers under control.
The Bakersfield parrots have been established since the 70s and have created their own niche. They roost and nest in the shaggy palm trees and raid fruit trees which is a cute, noisy nuisance for gardeners but not an ecological disaster.

Fascinating! The first thing that came to mind is tropical birds and only using it as an accent, maybe in some decorative applications. I have one spring green and maybe used it three times total 😅 never considered it as a mixer but now I will 💜 thank you!!!

Thank you, Anna! I was surprised at how close some of the mixes were to PY129! There's definitely enough variance that I can see preferring one or the other, but fascinating nonetheless!

So sorry to hear about your loss. Losing our friends of other species is painful 😢
This bright Daniel smith phthalocyanine yellow was one of the last paints I got on my journey from single pigments to loving mixes and white pigments. The colour makes me happy. Two artists who use a similar colour are Valerie Lin and Wil Freeborn and on both their art it pops.
I also got Daniel smith Christmas tree green which I hadn’t heard of before. Looks like it was around a long time ago and maybe came back? It smells of pine trees! So good.
I think your art has come on leaps and bounds in recent years. I can really see it. Your work really suits a flat paintbrush.

So sorry to hear about Cricket Denise, sending you massive love and hugs from across the pond. On the video's subject, I love a bright green but generally prefer to mix my own or use a May Green and a base and then fiddle to make it not quite so neon-like! I use it for highlights, sunglows on foliage, spring foliage, as a bright flash of light in fields of wild flowers etc.

So sorry to hear about Cricket.
I bought DS's Phthalo Yellow Green as a beginner, and wanting a color wheel palette influenced by Oto Kano. I regretted it but have since realized it's quite useful for florals (I painted a pink amaryllis with just Bright Rose and the Yellow Green, it neutralizes quite nicely) and also for summer landscapes (can't seem to get that bright green from other mixes!)
I did miss seeing the finished spread as a whole instead of only in closeup!
Also. I just used Stormy Blue this morning.

As always....magical artwork!!!!! 💚💚💚🐸🐊🐢🦎🐍🐲🐉🦖.GREEN is my favorite color. I love this green featured I the video. I use it a lot , but I do abstract work. I recently purchased a tube of Denise's green from Da Vinci. It's gorgeous. I hope it will be around for a long time. Yes, p.ease do a video for your other no used color.😊😊😊

Lovely spread!! Its really funny because one of my least favorite colors when not mixed is quinacridone violet. Its hard to explain, but I’m autistic and have sensory issues and visually that paint gives me the same feeling that nails on a chalkboard does. However, I adore that paint for mixing rich deep skintones and purples. So I suffer it on the palette and mix it in as soon as possible 😅
Vibrant greens like this look pretty to me but I so rarely have a use for them, however it is useful for toning down my dreaded quin violet if I add too much.

I think of this color as "synthetic" green, because it is used in so much advertizing, etc. When I see it in nature, it is a bright eye-catching flash of color, whereas in modern use it's often garish and attention grabbing. I struggle to use colors for nature that are so obnoxious and ubiquitous in ads, because they feel really fake. You did an awesome job highlighting this color, and now I am ready to try embracing other colors that I feel this way about. Thanks! ❤

Hullo Denise, I hope you are giving yourself time to grieve. Cricket has been a true friend and such a wonderful part of your journey, please know that we are sending you only the best wishes to you and her memory. I love mixing my greens and when mixing those light greens I have used DaVinci’s Leaf Green for backgrounds in animal paintings and as a core color painting those neon green frogs from the rainforest, without using any neon paints! I have also enjoyed success with DaVinci’s Yellow and Chromium Oxide Green as well as a new favorite Denise’s Green, yeah I believe that you could do a little more self promotion! Thank you for sharing this wonderful video of mixing greens! Please take care and remember the good times spent with friends no longer with us, yet living forever in our memories.

This green is a color you see everywhere in string in the great lakes everywhere, I never understand why people are saying it isn't natural like say a olive green. Not just this green but any flourescent color, when I go out in spring I see soo many bright colors that you just cannot get unless you mix in colors that are flourescent, you could also use them as a underlayer, mix, or secondary layers, that way you still have lightfast color, but you can have a color closer to the truth, at least for a while, tbh its kinda poetic in the way the flourescent colors will fade, just like spring fades to summer and summer fades to fall. I do believe that the flourescent colors do last longer when I layers them this way and they last even longer with UV spray and glass and or reflective plastic encasing. I will never believe these colors aren't natural because when you really look at nature you will find plants and other life that will react with blacklight and that grow all on their own. Even when you look at butterfly under uv spectrum you end up seeing what they see, which is completely different wing designs than what we see with our eyes, there are some videos here on RUclips that provide visuals for what I'm talking about.

I mean why buy a dead colour when you can buy a more vivid one and tone it down so then you have both versions? Since you cant make a dead colour vibrant and depending on what you paint both variants are important
