How exciting to be invited to the White House! Love that you shared this amazing wonderful memory today. Love these ink combos. They are so beautiful together! So simple and so so pretty! My favorite cookie is one that my mother and grandmother used to make. It’s a soft sugar cookie with a half of a pecan in the center with a light sprinkling of white sugar. My Mom has dementia now and hasn’t made them in a longtime. Precious memory.
My favorite cookies go back several generations. I learned how to make them from my mom and grandma. They are basically a spritz kind of cookie with modifications, so they are really 3 (or 4?) dimensional and then we frost them and put appropriate sprinkles on them, so a Christmas tree will have green frosting and sprinkles that look like ornaments. These are a feast for the eyes as well as the tongues!!
Welsh Current Cakes are my favorite Christmas cookie. You fry them instead of baking them. The card was just beautiful. Thanks for sharing the technique.
Pretty card! My mom made Raisin Filled Cookies in fun Christmas shapes. They were very thin sugar cookie dough with a cooked ground up raisin filling in the middle and then another sugar cookie layered on top and sealed around the edges and baked. Sooooo good! I also loved Russian Tea Cakes which are the same as/similar to Mexican Wedding Cakes - a ball of dough with chopped pecans mixed in and once they are baked the balls are rolled around in confectioner’s sugars. And then there were the Gingerbread Boys…. Ever since I can remember until she passed away more than 20 years ago, Mom and I would spend a weekend making all kinds of Christmas cookies to give to neighbors and family. Tiring work but oh, so tasty!
I love your bravery in using that color combo. I would have started again before completing. Thanks! Favorite cookie is the snowball or rumball cookie my mom would make. She would make about 8 different types of holiday cookie and each would be stored in a separate tin container and stored in her adjacent garage. I was always able to sneak a cookie or two on my way into visit. A wonderful holiday memory
Favorite cookie is my grandma’s Italian meatball cookies! No meat involved but it’s shaped like a meatball. It’s a chocolate cookie with a slight hint of cloves! Yum!
I am adaptable to any color combo. For my favorite cookie, I love my own recipe, chocolate chip cherry delights. They are super soft and so delicious. No one can mess them up.
Beautiful card, i love the deeper peacock color, i say do what works and looks best. Wedding cake cookies are my absolute favorite. I used to buy several packs of the Archway wedding cookies, since they were seasonal. But then i found a Paula Dean recipe and made my own. Haven't had those in years though. But i think they need to make a comeback this year😉💖
My mom made an amazing fluffy shortbread cookie decorated with bits of maraschino cherries in the center. These cookies have become a family tradition with my 3 kids and their families. I so appreciate the color guide - am loving your cards. I am always inspired by how easy you make it look.
Beautiful card. My favorite is called a snowball. They are pecan sandies in a golf ball size and dusted with powdered sugar. My mom made them every year.
Molasses is my favorite Christmas cookie… Also I would swap things out…you want the card to look beautiful…so do what is needed for that..Thanks for sharing
I love the card! I absolutely love ALL THE COOKIES... but I have a very special place in my heart for my Grandma's Candy cane cookies! She's gone now, but she passed along the recipe and we all love them!
I agree with Vicki W as my favorite cookie is the almond crescent. They melt in your mouth. My mom would make 17 different kinds of cookies that we would box up and give to our mailman, neighbors and friends. My aunt would bake potica a Slovenian nut roll that we looked forward to each year.what wonderful memories.
Love your water coloring. I love lemon bars. I don't think that they're Christmas cookies, but I always make for Christmas to give away and for me to enjoy : ). Thank you Kristina!
I typically keep a color combo because I am color "challenged" just like I'm "design challenged". Which is a nice way of saying I REALLY NEED RUclips AND PINTEREST!! Thank you for giving me such a FUN idea!
I love the card and the pictures. My favorite cookie is pfeffernusse cookies. (feffernuss). They are a traditional German cookie and just a mouthful of wonderfulness!
My favorite Christmas cookie is a Galant. It’s made in a waffle iron and gets dusted with powdered sugar. I could eat a whole batch warm while making them.
I don’t have the collection of inks & ink pads that you are fortunate to have so I vote for “close” to the color & mixing manufacturers. Pretty, lovely, amazing watercolor background, Kristina!!! I remember your & Jennifer’s White House tour … it was amazing & I was so glad to see it from your eyes!!!! ♥️♥️♥️🎄🎄🎄💚💚💚
like the peacock color you used. The card came out so pretty. My favorite cookie is the roll out cookies, they are also a favorite for my family. It's fun decorating them with my granddaughter.
I was worried at first...but it turned out amazing! Love those ornaments too. I have to be more flexible because I don't have all of the inks. My favorite Christmas is a Spritz cookie. Loads of butter.....
Hello from Illinois, love this card, it encompasses all the holiday colors. My favorite holiday cookie is the magic cookie bars, our family most requested treat.
Watercolor backgrounds always look like a hot mess to me in the beginning but as you work with them, they always end up being beautiful. This card is so pretty and I loved hearing your story about visiting the White House to see the Christmas decorations. What an amazing experience. Thank you for sharing. I love the frosted sugar cookies that are cut into shapes but they are such a pain to make.
Thank you for the water painting class. You inspire me to try great things. Not all turn out but I give myself an A+ for trying. What an experience/honor to see the White House when it’s decorated for Christmas. Happy you had the opportunity. My favorite Christmas cookies are: Date filled pin wheel, Russian tea cake, and Spritz. I make 12 different kind but would never forget to make these 3. #1 would be the Russian tea cake.
Your cards are always so beautiful. Great inspiration!

Your card is very beautiful!! I am a hungarian woman and our favourite christmas cookie is a gingerbread cookie. We make a lot and put on the christmas tree too like an ornament.
Italian Christmas cookies. They’re kind of a shortbread/sugar cookie with a bit of icing. I love them! We’re German, so the old Snickerdoodles are a standard
I'm flexible with colors and like to play. My favorite cookie is what we call Easy Brownies, a no bake drop cookie with cocoa powder, peanut butter, oatmeal and a few other ingredients. It's a recipe from 7th grade Home Ec class back in the late 60s.
Our favorite is nut balls(or snowballs). Ground almonds, almond flavoring, flour and eggs baked and rolled in confectioners sugar. Need to be made weeks ahead of time because they improve as sugar gets absorbed. Messy but delicious.
My sister also loves snickerdoodle cookies, but my favorite are spritz cookies. This was a beautiful card and I need to get myself into water coloring!
Favourite cookie: pecan squares which are total decadent. The base is essentially a short bread & the topping is pecan caramel. Rich but sensational. A Martha’s Stewart recipe.
Thank you so much for the Holiday Ink Combo guide!!! This guide is awesome and has helped me as I design my Christmas cards this year. I will be using this guide as an essential tool when I am designing cards.
I love watching my two granddaughters eating Xmas cookies. They love sugar cookies. I do just give them a couple of bites but that's it. The ones I like are 🍪. I eat them once a while. I like the colors. I'm flexible with the color blend. Thank you.
What an awesome background, Kristina! I think substituting the Peacock for the Evergreen was a good call. I guess I'm in the "flexible" camp when it comes to inspiration. If something isn't working, I am not afraid to shift gears. As for my favorite holiday cookie, it's also not a specifically holiday one. I found a recipe online a few years ago for a mint chocolate chip cookie with a mint-filled sandwich cookie (like Oreos) inside. Oh my gosh - it is to die for!!! Because of having to surround the sandwich cookie with cookie dough before baking, they come out quite large, so you don't get as high a yield as, say, regular chocolate chip cookies. But then, you don't eat multiple cookies in one sitting, as they are quite rich, too. I am getting hungry for those cookies just writing about them! LOL Anyway, thank you for sharing your dramatic card. Take care, & have a wonderful day! :)
Wow, fabulous memories to have of your visit to the Whitehouse ..love this card and such a cool and easy one to do..thank you! In Scotland, it’s shortbread that is popular at Christmas time and sold everywhere in special Christmas themed tins
Love this card....I love snowflakes....I think I have about 30 snowflake dies and still more I want. My favourite cookie is a pumpkin hermit.....but I love snickerdoodles too. Always made snickerdoodle houses with th e kids instead of gingerbread....no one liked gingerbread
Love it. Favorite Christmas cookie is a sugar cookie that is almost translucent in how thin it is. A college classmate makes them every year and they are just to die for!
First, beautiful card! Love the color combo SO much! My favorite holiday cookie is the round powdered sugar cookie often called a Russian Tea Cake. I use a nut grinder to make the pecan pieces fine. Buttery, sugary goodness - just like holiday cookies are supposed to be!
Gorgeous card and i loved hearing about your special trip to the white house! My favorite Christmas cookie is the classic sugar cookie...my moms recipe of course!
Russian Tea Cakes! My grandma used to make them every year & she taught me how to make them as well. Just like cards, it’s the technique that makes them extra special. Love your cards💜🎄
Thanks again for the free downloads - great! I like how your card turned out. I need more time to play w/ watercolors.... I would say cut-outs are my favorite holiday cookie b/c at few (or no) other times of the year do people go to such lengths to use cutters and decorate the cookies so sweetly. I also have a recipe that I originally got from Giada deLaurentiis on the Food Network about 10 yrs ago for lemon & blueberry cookies. It's outstanding and I usually make those only at Xmas. They're great any time. And then there are sand tarts.... and snickerdoodles and... well, I could go on and on. I also like to look at gingerbread houses but I'm not as much a fan of the flavor of gingerbread as of cut-outs. Lori S in PA
Love the card! Totally understand about the snickerdoodles! My sister and I would make them as a kid as well from a Junior Chef cookbook. They were one of our dad’s favorite cookies.
Beautiful card! I also love Snickerdoodles, but my mom always made monster cookies at Christmas, talk about a sugar rush. They have chocolate chips, m&m’s, regular and peanut, oatmeal, and peanut butter. The receipt is made three dozen cookies.
Snickerdoodles are wonderful! A family favorite. My favorite are Gingersnap marbles, a softer gingersnap.
Shortbread is my fave cookie for the holidays. And i am loving this color combo.
Butter tarts and Almond sugar cookies. Love the combos !
Gotta say this seemed like a lovely dramatic but stormy sky! Loved the dangling snowflakes.

Your teaching of color theory gives us wings to fly. I so appreciate artists such as you, who are so generous in talent & teaching.
what a great way to describe it!
