I am so excited I found your video! I live in Tucson and love to grow herbs. Now that i am retired I want to get more serious. Our heat can be brutal, but your video is proof that it is possible to grow more than a few. Thank you for the tips.
I appreciate your love for plants, I live in your area and you have been a plethora of helpful information in this wacky heat. Please send me the link for your classes! I have started my sweet pea flowers and I have high expectations. lol thanks again!

I used to live in Pennsylvania and now I live in Mesa, Arizona! I live on Lindsey and Baseline, it's exciting to learn from someone who lives in the same climate and even same town as me. I was so used to gardening in Arizona that it was shocking to me when I first moved here 2 years ago. Now I'm excited to keep learning!
Try adding them to different dishes and see what you like. Soups are a good way to experiment. Herbs bring so much flavor and nutrition. Favorites for soup are thyme, rosemary, parsley, sage, bay.
I make garlic herb butter, using a lot of basil and chives, plus some sage, rosemary, oregano, and thyme. Great on meat and fish, or to make garlic bread, or on rice. I like to pick a sprig of mint in the morning, and add it to my coffee. 😊
I would add winter savory to the list. It holds up through the summer heat better than the more delicate thyme. Sadly my sage always crumples when the monsoon season arrives. :(
If grown in a container, what should the soil look like? More cactus-y or just regular potting soil? Thanks for the great tutorial, and very timely too!
My poor thyme plant did not survive this summer in Houston Tx. It basically turned to ash. It was very sad. I have bought a new one and will try and baby it more. Hopefully next summer won't be *quite* as bad! The oregano did just fine, though; I've got a big batch in the dehydrator right now.
Great video! I’ve started growing more herbs and most survived this past brutal summer in raised beds in Glendale 9b also. I’m interested in learning how to dry the herbs successfully without a dehydrator. Do you have any videos on this? Add marjoram to the list! Like oregano, won’t quit!! I’m envious of your bay leaf plant too!
I'm in CA too. We do get some hot weather in August...always a challenge but I have a lot of shade. I dry my herbs sometimes in the oven and very very low heat an hour or so. Ive dried them in the sun sometimes but not sure if I should. I also dry them on towels or metal racks outdoors in the shade in summer but wind is a problem sometimes.
but make sure they dry well because I just took out a container from the cupboard and it was moldy. Yuck. First time thats happened to me...but it was thicker leaves (hibiscus).
Rosemary grows well in my hot and humid climate. I was surprised by how easy it roots, too. Are you still in zone 9b according to the new, updated USDA zone map?
I joing the web site it shows that I am subscribed but when ever i want to download the fiit square gardening it neve show any thing and i didnt reicive any email

Ive lived in the desert before and it is challenging but I did manage to grow a garden. Best wishes.
I really dont do herbs but I do love the smell of them even the rosemary, since my name is rosemary lol !😂
lol
Your bay laurel!! Green with envy. I'll come and make you some soup.
I love to make soup...herbs just add so much.
When you grow them in containers you can even grow them in a cooler climate.
Thanks!
Wow! Thank you so much.

I love herbs! Love the name, forever herbs.
🌿I add herbs to smoothies, pasta, soups, stir fries, other dishes, & teas.😋😊
what herb do you put in a smoothie? I can see mint but what else?
Lemon verbena and Vietnamese coriander (Ram Rao) is my favourite herb combination. I use it in everything possible! 😀
Oh yum! I need to try that. Thanks for the tip. Herbs make such a difference in cooking for sure.
I never heard of vietnamese coriander

Good idea. I seem to have found a spot that the sage likes... I'm not moving it!

Either kind - make sure the pot has good drainage. Terra Cotta pots are good for helping the roots breathe.

Lavender struggles in my zone 9b garden in central California. adding compost is my favorite! Where do I find Lemon Grass?

Ive had good luck with growing my thyme in a pot. Part shade, part sun.
@@poetsgarden1 Maybe next year I'll try moving it to full shade for summer. This year's thyme died too.

Yes, still 9b - although areas near me moved to 10A
i didnt know rosemary would grow so tall...lol. Mine is HUGE. Now I grow my herbs in pots.
I’m in vail At 9a and get snow and freezing winters
Will the bay leaf be ok to overwinter outside?
I’ve been bringing the pots inside for winter
It should. Containers cool off more, put it in a protected area if possible.
What variety of la vender do youplant in mesa ?
I have French and Spanish lavender.
Hi Angela,
I live in Buckeye AZ.
Is it better to plant herbs in containers or directly in ground? 🍃
Depends on the herb. Most annual herbs do best with amended soil - many perennial herbs grow well in the ground.
@@GrowingInTheGarden thank you.😊
