Both gained freedom after their convictions were overturned for murders that they steadfastly maintained they did not commit. They began dating shortly after meeting while both publicly campaigning against the death penalty. Their wedding earlier this month was perhaps the first of its kind -- the union of two exonerated death row inmates. Joining us from their home in Ireland, Sunny Jacobs and Peter Pringle recount their remarkable story from death row to the wedding altar. Democracy Now! interviewed the couple about their experience, new-found love, and their anti-death penalty activism.

Lovely couple
I met jesse tafero in the death row visiting area at the Florida prison where he was executed. I met jesse in 1981 and jesse tafero was my boyfriend and jesse was like family to me. I am a 57 year old lady. Jesse tafero and sonja jacobs were not legally married as she claims. Jesse and sonja were not together long enough to even be considered a common law couple. I believe that sonja jacobs is guilty.
