This movie is based on the novel "vekkai" means "heat". Story is actually about the social structure in India. There is a peculiar system which prevails in India known as Caste system which is of hierarchical structure. People of lower caste gets oppressed by higher caste by all means. Lower caste people have no right to own a land. Lower caste people have no right to access education. Lower caste people are not even allowed to wear footwear (there s scene that a girl gets beaten for wearing footwear. But Now there is small improvement against those discrimination yet long way to go. The time periods have been wonderfully shown in the movie). The main theme of the story is Land. Owning the land would help improving the life. On British rule, law had been introduced by grabbing land from higher caste mass land owners and to give lower caste landless people. But that was not implemented properly and cheated by higher caste. In flashback scenes, dhanush's elder brother legally struggle to get the land doing protest against the higher caste. The movie is discussing the social injustice prevailing here. This is a great movie.

thats a remarkable score from IMDB.. Once I seen fight scene I had to hop in and see whats going on lol. I really that it wasnt full of a bunch of cuts. Sometimes i hate the use of heavy slow motion but it really worked here because i did like seeing the sand fly. I also like that he wasnt invincible. Lol I clap anytime i make any kind of transition in real life lol.

In this movie, at least ... Dhanush doesn't kill because, if he kills, someone from the opposition will again try to kill one of Dhanush's family members, so by not killing them, he's trying to break that cycle. Not for looking for a better way.. per se. He just doesn't want someone taking out their wrath on his family members due to his actions.
If can have watched closely you can see that....Dhanush wouldn't have killed anyone in this fight scene...he uses the weapon and hits them the way that they don't died....what a movie what an actor... Hats off to the grt director Mr vetrimaran

I will give 9/10 for this movie. Very native narrative to the land tirunelveli region, in body language and dialogues. Very historical accurate to the stories of casteism. Danush lived that character Sivasami. Apart from some inaccuracies in vfx for fight scenes (blood marks) , this is too good movie.
