  • Perhaps the #1 thing to do in Amsterdam is to take a relaxing canal cruise. It's a great way to see Amsterdam as you glide through the canals and see the architecture, especially the tilted canal houses. On this cruise, we were on an open air boat and we were fortunate to have a beautiful, sunny day. We started out near the Hermitage Museum and cruised on the Amstel River, before we hit a few canals. We passed by a few landmarks, then went through the Red-Light District, rode by many houseboats, and ended up by the famous Skinny Bridge. If you want to know what an Amsterdam canal cruise is like, I think you'll enjoy this video. My advice if you visit Amsterdam is take two different canal cruises (which is what we did). One in a small open-air boat and one in a larger covered boat, that each show you some different parts of Amsterdam.

It's open in the daytime but you won't see as many sex workers as you would see at night.

Makes sense! I've never been anywhere due to lack of money but I just love the old history and the differences between old and new history. Amsterdam always was fascinating. I wonder, was there ever a real "Roxanne"
