Crying into my coffee as it dawns on me that I am located outside of the North American continent and am thus relatively unlikely to ever witness with my own senses the magnificence of downtown Alpena, Michigan
everyone in the credits of this little short film "commercial" should be happy to put this on their resume. Very well done. I frequently have to drive through Michigan to visit my parents, might make the detour to visit Alpena
If you cross the long way, north-south, then you just have to get on US-23 once you cross the bridge (or take 23 to the bridge, if you're going the other way, of course). It takes you all along the Lake Huron side of Michigan.
Has anyone else noticed RUclipss algorithm for small content creators has gotten extremely good? I found so many interesting small channels lately whose videos had 300 views and they are amazing.
I see there's been a wave of ironic Hi, we're Downtown Alpena fans. I'd like to announce that my comment marks the start of a wave of Hi, we're Downtown Alpena new sincerity. This video was very charming, and I hope to visit Alpena someday.
If you're into rock collecting as well, check out Michigan Rocks, it's a channel from a former local math teacher who explores the beaches looking for interesting fossils and such. :-) Alpena and the surroundings really are a beautiful place, and the night sky here is amazing - some of the darkest spots east of the Mississippi are nearby.
After the decline of the lumber industry in the early 20th century, Alpena diversified its economy. The city became known for limestone quarrying, cement production, and fishing. The establishment of the Besser Company, which produced innovative concrete block machinery, helped bolster Alpena's manufacturing sector. In more recent years, Alpena has focused on tourism and environmental conservation, highlighting its natural beauty, historical landmarks, and outdoor recreation opportunities. The Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary, Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and other attractions draw visitors from around the region.
And, in accord with the whims of the algorithm, a pilgrimage was arranged- the great Alpena Haij. Also Apple added Alpena to the dictionary and stopped autocorrecting to “Allen’s” which was considered a good move.
My friends and I went to Alpena one summer like ten years ago. There was some kind of festival going on downtown. Me and my boy each drank 2 bottles of robitussin and saw planet of the apes. I got too uncomfortable in the theater and went outside to start throwing up in front of the theater downtown. A cop pulled up as a was puking. He asked if I was drunk and I told him I ate bad chicken salad at church and he believed me lol. I was trippin balls. Later we went to my homies girlfriend’s cabin on the water and I fell asleep on the beach. Had some good times in Alpena
This has such a strong vibe that even though I'm like 95% sure this is just a really well made tourism ad for a small town, there's 5% of me that is expecting some kind of deeper esoteric meaning hidden within this video
Hello from Texas. I've been to a lot of cities in Michigan in the last 25 years visiting friends, but never Alpena. My closest visit, this past August, was to Cheboygan. I love the state and the Great Lakes.
I’m a life long Michigander, yet I’ve never made the sacred pilgrimage to Downtown Alpena, Michigan… Perhaps now the time has come to walk that well-trodden path, like those who came before me: The path to Downtown Alpena, Michigan.
Ladies and gentlemen we meet here all in the name of love and the aesthetic. Here's to having good taste🥂. Maybe one day I'll travel to visit this lovely town.
If you're genuinely interested, a former teacher here has a channel called Michigan Rocks in which he explores the local beaches and parks looking for fossils and interesting rocks and such. Of course, it would be great if these folks are able to put out another winner like this one. :-) It's a beautiful place, especially if you're into nature. Lake Huron, several large inland lakes, hundreds of square miles of public forests, dark sky preserves, etc.
I'm actually moving across the country back to Rochester Hills, Michigan. I leave in 5 days. Strange the algorithm would dump this on me now, but I love it and I'm here for it. Guess I'll visit Alpena sometime.
From Michigan's longest continuously-run mini golf course, to one of America' great roadside attractions featuring a prehistoric zoo, the whole family will find something to love about visiting the Alpena area.
Someone in the Downtown Alpena tourism department is a big Wes Anderson fan. The algorithm clearly knows what I like. I'd love to visit, although I don't think I'll be able to anytime soon considering I'm from northern England on a slightly above average wage. Cheers though.
I played a couple gigs in Alpena with The Blue 4 Trio many years ago at the shipwreck museum. Nice folks! Also it's where McKinley's assassin was from.
I've been to Alpena, it really is as awesome as this film makes it out to be. I didn't fall in love while I was there, but maybe I should give it another chance.
I have not yet in my life found a place I love enough to want to stay there. If anything, I want to go as far away as I can manage. Space or another planet would be ideal. Or maybe a higher dimension of reality.
I've never even been close to Michigan, but this was a very neat idea for a video. Good job chamber of commerce, and whoever they paid / promoted to make it.
I’ll keep this in mind the next time I’m near downtown Alpena, Michigan
I really want to see a movie with my friends and then get a scoop of my favorite gelato in downtown Alpena.
@@johnracine4589 And then after that, I’ll write a mopey song in the style of The Smiths about the 100 shipwrecks in the harbor.

You know it's indie when 30%+ of the video length is credits
Got to make sure you get those credits to put on the resume
Or when 4:3 is not indie enough so you go 1:1
@zarlg I love 1:1 I wish people used it more.
You know it's indie when everyone in the credits has an NPR host name. Looking at you Harper Grushke

i’m not sure why the algorithm brought me here, but i’m glad it did
Same haha, I love it though very Moonrise Kingdom
It wants you to visit Downtown Alpena
Sameeee 🥴

It turns out the algorithm was working for Michigan the whole time
Normalize romanticizing your favourite environments
Already been normalized, and the usual effect is a parking lot and a lot more concrete on once sacred ground.
Ok cynic @@michaelallen8137

it's pretty normal. I think we should normalize not spewing word vomit because it's been drilled into your brain with autistic youtube comments.
I was thinking of going to Berlin. Maybe I'll go to Alpena.
