  • Euro NCAP Frontal Impact takes place at 64 Km/h, 40% of the width of the car striking a deformable barrier. In the Full Width test, 100% of the width of the car impacts a rigid barrier at 50 Km/h. In the side impact, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door at 50 km/h. In the pole test, the car tested is propelled sideways at 32 km/h into a rigid pole.

      You can only directly compare it to 2016 crash test as the tests are completely unchanged from 2016. There is no way to compare V90/S90 to a car tested in 2012 as the point system have changed a lot since then.

    • @BigAngeloSantorini

      Alfa Romeo Giulia got a slightly better score from Adult Occupant Protection and Child Occupant, but lost to Volvo in Pedestrian and Safety Assist. In Safety assist score, the gap to the Alfa is quite big. That is why Volvo is safest car ever although the difference to the Alfa is quite marginal.

    • @ilya.b
      @ilya.b 7 лет назад +50

      It's not "the look" that maters, but the forces on the dummies' sensors. In fact, car MUST bend and crash and twist in order to absorb the force of the impact. BTW, for a couple of decades VOLVO use SIPS system, which kind of slides seats with the driver or passenger AWAY from the door making room for more crumple zone in a side impact.
      Watch these in case you don't know how SIPS works:

      Actually, this system is much more resistant for bigger speeds than others, cos sips system help provide survival space at almost any surviable speed. Actually no crush has no effect on side impact due your body doesnt have time to decelerate and it still crash to side with crush or without.

      Thanks for the interesting videos. After watching them and re-reading the Euroncap report for the new E Class and S90, the S90 performed just as good or better in all areas of adult occupant safety. Eventhough the E Class didn't deform as much as the S90 in the pole test, the S90 was just as safe. Also I trust Volvo and they do make the safest cars in the world, so I really should not be worried about how the car "looked" during the pole test. Volvo knows their stuff and design the car to deform in such a way to protect the occupants.
