Money isn't the root of ALL evil..........just most of it.
The other roots of evil......
jealousy,
obsession,
lack of character,
greed (not all greed involves money but most),
religious beliefs
and insanity.
By "lack of character" I mean people who
abuse their kids, partners, friends and pets verbally and/or physically,
because of their individual character flaws and mental health issues.
No one deserves to be lied to, controlled or abused because they,
Pee on the floor,
bark,
don't "keep the house clean",
don't have sex on demand,
don't go to bed on time,
wet the bed
don't do their homework.
take food from the pantry/fridge
or don't lend their friends money when asked.
Nope.
No excuses for abuse or murder.
@king kong You aren't even quoting it right. The Bible doesn't say that. It says The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Nothing to do with the $ itself.
@@pennyp7382 the bible is also one of the roots itself if you read the comment fully

The Tim Horton's sponsorship killlllled me. Such great humour.
Get us Americans on good ole Timmy hoes!
He has a few "zingers" throughout his videos, they're great! Jiles' humor is appreciated & his delivery is spot on! 🎉
Wow this guy was severely injured but he still managed to get 1 dog out of the house. Even if HE didn't feel like one, this guy was a hero
Thank God that the other dog was able to be rescued as well. Poor Carla though, burning to death is one of the worst ways to go.
I once burned my left hand and arm in a house fire, I had third degree burns and required skin grafts. I can't fathom the pain if my whole body was burned. My guess is that he was in shock and didn't feel his wounds. Al is a hero who put others first.
Al is a freaking warrior!!
@@americandevoI got blew up in a stove pilot light accident and only got some 2nd degree burns even that shit hurt some skin bubbling and lots of burnt hair lol I thought I'd never get the smell of burnt flesh and hair outta my nostrils overall I got extremely lucky though I was literally half way inside the stove re lighting the pilot light when it blew up on me
Al sounds like he was an amazing man, and him working to rescue his wife and his dogs is both tragic and incredibly moving.
I am thinking the same. He was an amazing person, he risked his life to save his wife and their dogs, so sad he didn't survive.
Looking at their pics, he just looked much more distinguished then Carla.

I like how Giles from Monsters spreads things out and plays little bits of the interrogation at a time and then tells us more story. I don't like channels that just let the interrogation go for forty minutes with a tiny bit of commentary either side. I think Giles does great 🙂
Me neither,i tend to drift off

“I promise- this episode is NOT sponsored by Tim Horton’s, but it could be…. (PAUSE)..”
😂😂 that was PERFECT! 👌🏻
It’s weird how his knee hurt so badly that he had to sleep downstairs on the floor……but had no problem carrying a sleeping child up the stairs, putting him back in his bed, and walking back down the stairs.
I noticed that too…🫢
I broke my leg twice in January (two different falls weeks apart), wore the boot until the last week of March, and still can't go up and down stairs normally. Certainly can't carry things up the stairs because I need my hands on the walls.
EXACTLY what I said when I heard that!
What kind of self centred, heartless person could even consider resorting to such absolutely horrific, disgusting behaviour towards people who had only ever offered them nothing but support and love. Definitely a monster!
Probably a narcissist, narcissists only care about themselves.

trying to 'cover up' monetary problems is actually a pretty common family murder or murder-suicide motive. ie. the house of cards, to cover up the failure of being a man. trying to provide everything family wants is also a rather common way to end up in that, like it's not always having some kind of vice the money went to or something like that.
it's common enough that it should be taught in schools and that there's places to get help etc.
There's not a "good" way to murder someone, but putting them through a fire and such horrific burns is particularly sick.
I don’t know if the creators will ever see this but I wanted to just thank you for using your platform to help people with the hotlines you provide. I am a crisis counselour and thank you so much for doing that!! ❤

I've had my fair share of financial issues but it's never occurred to me to harm people who have only ever cared about me and helped me when I needed it. That's a disgusting way to treat your family or friends. If he could've just been honest about his spending addictions/financial issues, he could've gotten help for it instead of hurting people for quick money that he would still blow through in days.
I mean of all people, your own mother!? Insane
Al seemed to be one of those rare ppl who are civically minded and actually care about their community. Volunteering time, money and even his actual blood. He reminds me of my 91 y/o grandma, who has lived a frugal life in much the same way. We need more people who give so much of themselves to create a healthy, happy community.
It's scary how effortless he lies. He doesn't miss a beat.

@@carrollmma403, or a Mel Brooks movie.
Same with Trump when he was asked which leg had the bone spurs that exempted him from military service in Vietnam. He couldn't remember either. Pretty conclusive.
I can't imagine how Al felt, knowing he couldn't save his wife - and that his step-son was responsible for burning his own mother and step-father to death, over money... Absolutely devastating. RIP Al and Carla 💕
I can’t either. That detail made me tear up just hearing it!! In a way I’m glad they didn’t survive WITHOUT each other bc the reality of waking up knowing the other didn’t survive would kill me as their spouse. They don’t have to face life without one another …..but it’s all bc of this sick son on a b!itch!
You guys are probably the only channel I watch that lists emergency numbers. I think all channels that cover true crime should include those. Thanks for being awesome!
I commented before I read yours - I feel the same way! As a 988 operator it makes my heart happy ❤❤❤ and I also wish others would use their platform to provide that info to their audience! ❤
I agree I can’t recall the other channel I’m thinking of, but they begin their stories recognizing the victims and their families. This channel is appropriately called Monsters which means the perpetrators are evil, but for whatever reason Canada and other British Commonwealth countries do not recognize evil which is apparent in the pathetically low sentences.
Mr. Ballen covers true crime sometimes and I know when he does, there's usually a charity or something at the end to assist the victims. He's covered emergency numbers in videos where they were more relevant. Other than them, I can't think of any others that do both. Lots will do charities for the families/victims, but not emergency resources.
@@lunaballuna oh that’s cool to know, never seen any of his vids!
@Molly Maciulla really?! He's a pretty big channel. He covers the strange, dark, and mysterious (true crime, horror, crazy true events, and a bunch more) and 2 videos ago he and the community raised like 50k for a man who saved the life of a woman when skydiving to help with his hospital bills since he's now completely paralyzed.
Al and Carla seem like some of the kindest people ever, especially Al. Literally doing everything he could to help others. I hope they’re resting peacefully now - truly such a sad and sickening case. :(
Al sounds like he was a real, genuinely great human being. We need more Al's in the world. God bless
I tore up my knee at age 15 way back in 1983 playing baseball. Believe me when I say that today, 40 years later, I still feel pain in my .LEFT knee all day every day. There's no way that you forget after only a few months like this guy seems to have!
The second most infuriating part (the first being that he killed his mother and stepfather) is that he started blowing through the money he gained right away. He did all this because he was drowning in debt and was about to be found out. So instead of changing his spending habits and taking care of that debt he just blew it off. Maybe a couple of years and then he would be right back where he started. All of it for nothing.
No self control. That is a sign to watch out for in a mate it means they have zero impulse control.
Then his wife sells the house for $720,000.....he easily could have just sold it and got something cheaper abd paid all his debt and not horribly killed his own mother...
@@sarahsherman4514 Some people just refuse to make sacrifices to better their lives. It's the desire for instant gratification. His desire was so great he was willing to kill those that loved him :(
One of the crazies parts of this story to me is that even if he had pulled off the killings without being caught and had he received the 400k he was entitled to he would only have enough to pay off all of his many debts and he would barely even break even. So he pretty much was killing to pay debts and no financial gain 🤯
What a complete waste of space. Total POS‼️‼️The Step Dad was a absolute badass & hero. I’m glad they got this monster. RIP to the victims & sending comfort & peace to the ones left behind.🌈🕊️🥰

God, I don’t understand people that don’t keep track of their finances and spend like crazy, especially if you have a lower paying job. I used to spend impulsively when I was in college, but I went to study abroad afterwards and had to live on very little money, which has helped so much when it comes to impulse control and saving. I constantly check my bank account daily and I have a list of things I need to pay off. And when I have the impulse to buy something, I’ll sit on it for a few days and if I really really want it, then I’ll buy it. But I don’t really buy a bunch of material goods anymore. Minimalism is so much better in my opinion.
He was making a good salary as a teacher, Canadian teachers are among the highest-paid compared to teachers from around the world, probably making $85,000-$90,000/year with many, many benefits and his wife was also working, they really must have been spending big.
You said, "And when I have the impulse to buy something, I’ll sit on it for a few days and if I really really want it, then I’ll buy it."
I think that is key to not overspending, I do the same, and I never feel "deprived".

Great coverage of this horrendous incident. Rich, Rick, Richard, Asshat, whatever you want to call him, is a total sociopath.
One thing I did notice, when Al was asked about his relationship to Rich, he was described as his son in law. He was actually his stepson!

But this is Monsters is on Top, his Voice and presentation is 💥💯💥
Edit: There are major Key-Crime-Channel-Players I refuse to watch any longer and support. At the beginning they were cool until they started to constantly put updated out, like several times a Day about current cases at that time. Wow. Talk about "small world." I can't imagine your surprise.
I just typed the same thing, I live about 30 kms from Dundas, never heard of this story til now, what rock have we been living under?
Wow. Holy hell.
It's always crazy to realize you have even a slight personal connection to these stories.
I posted on Toronto CL's rants and raves commenting a couple times on the insane conversation someone was having there (pretending to be multiple people) posting over and over denying they were secretly dating Karla Homolka (and then accusing themselves as other people). Later on, I learned that person was Luca Magnotta (a while before he mailed that students head to the Prime Minister or whatever).
Also, I used to be on a gay hookup site when I was in my early 20s, and when Bruce McArthur was eventually caught and people reported what his username was on there, I realized that he had tried to message me (I don't think I even responded). I'm sure he messaged basically every guy that fit his type, but if I was into older guys I might have ended up buried in someone's garden!
I love all the support lines given in the end. It’s good to know that people are out there to help
Agreed. I've commented as much before: someone somewhere has gotten the help/support they needed because of the information provided at the end of these videos. I really believe that, and it's just another reason to appreciate this channel.

But I have never heard of this case. Finally a case that’s new to me. Thank you. Please continue to do cases that haven’t been covered 1000 times ❤️💜💙
Cases like this make me think of Fargo
Marge Gunderson:
"So that was Mrs. Lundegaard on the floor in there. And I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper. And those three people in Brainerd. And for what? For a little bit of money. There's more to life than a little money, you know. Don't you know that? And here ya are, and it's a beautiful day. Well, I just don't understand it."
I think about that great scene too occasionally, especially the line, "And for what? A little bit of money." - This POS murdered his own mother for what? To avoid going to through debt consolidation and a little embarrassment? So he could keep eating in restaurants each night? - I really hope he enjoys the prison food.
Such a great movie!! And so many good lines!

That's so funny! I live in K-W and when I was a kid whole families of us would hang out in the parking lot on.... Ottawa Street!
Another tragic story where money is the root of all evil.
Gawddamnnnn, can you imagine opening your door at 3 am to be greeted by some guy that "looked like he was melting"?.... (Side Note: Al seems like a boss ass individual with a big heart. A real one.)
This is a perfect example of how guilty people try to convince police they are innocent by giving overly detailed answers to simple questions.
Detective: "Last night when this happened, where were you?"
Richard: "I was at home...um...sleeping with my son...um...he came down....I couldn't sleep too much, so at about 2 o'clock I put Netflix on. He was watching Sicario, which is a...um...when my son came down, I had to turn it off because it's a pretty violent movie, and he was upset...um...and he came down and laid with me for about, I don't know, 30 minutes or so, maybe around there. When he fell asleep, I took him upstairs slowly and uh, I went back down and I just wasn't sleeping with my wife because my knee, so I was laying on the couch, uh, floor downstairs."
They start prattling on and on. Shut up!
It's certainly something that happens, but people do just have a habit of wittering sometimes. That's why the cops always talk to people about unrelated stuff to get a read on how they normally act. Remember, kids. Never talk to cops, ever. That's what lawyers are for.
Drives a person nuts the way he speaks
I thought the same. I was thinking when he was saying his answer to that question "this guy's doing a lot"
Carrying anything upstairs with a knee injury is difficult, especially a sleeping child. How could he think that this story was believable? Considering his "injury" was so severe that he couldn't drive but he had no issues carrying a child to bed without waking him. Criminals can be so dumb.
I lived around the corner from this house when it happened so sad they were loved by their community and nice people
Thank you for the full story/context. I watched the interrogation video on another channel but there was literally no backstory. Some people do not realize how lucky/how good they have it to have people in their life to love and support unconditionally, when you have that, money should be far less important not more, to kill those people is just unimaginable to me.
I tend to think it was greed. Who steals a loofa?
@@cdes1776rich does???
OMG my heart goes out in support of all people without loving family to support you, Kia kaha (stay strong) from aotearoa new zealand ❤❤❤
Rich seems to have learned from the Chris Watts School of Resistance to Interrogation. Their mannerisms and tenor are eerily similar. And both are utterly unconvincing.
Sounds somewhat similar to a case here in South Dakota. A father of four killed his family and himself and then burned his house down to make it look like an accident. He did this because he was being investigated for stealing from a fund for Native American kids and he was the fund’s regional manager. Scot Westerhuis, and it happened in Platte SD, a town of like four hundred people.
Just looked it up, that's a wild case as well.
U guys are really on top of your game.. seriously. This is always excellent top-notch research and great narration and all the photographs that are put together I mean this is just fit together so well and there's always in a new upload like you really stay busy 🎉❤
How in the hell does anyone do that to their own mother!?!
A lot of times i see people saying money is the root of all evil, which is not the case. It is a LOVE of money that is the problem, this is quite important, i think.
Imo, it's greed and lust. Money is only a means to an end
no, semantics, really no difference, just nitpicky
You know me and even I am a fan of this channel, it’s one of the best
I hope that piece of crap enjoys his super flat surface of a prison cot. Monster for sure. So sorry to the people and animals that came into contact with him. Great video as always ! Thank you
Your voice is so calming that even though the subject mater is awful I have to listen to your videos no less than twice for each video and I am the type of person who can't watch anything twice. 🙃
as soon as the interrogation came up, i was like "oh, this guy"
Wow, I never expected to see a case involving my hometown, Hamilton. I've actually never heard of this case. Very cool👍
I just typed the same thing, I live about 30 kms from Dundas, never heard of this story til now and have seen other locals typing the same thing, what rock have we been living under?
Seems that Al knew his son in law was a piece of work and really you can't do anything about your dastardly son in law til he gets froggy and jumps. By tben you're in a bed on frickin fire going "I knew it". His intuition was spot on. I just tell myself God needed him by his side more than needed him here.
God doesn't need anyone. Your theology is deeply flawed. Rich is totally responsible for the death of Al.
@Jnetta58 uuuhh.. ok God wanted to hang out with him more than he wanted him to be in this dimension?? Lol. You speak as if you know the answers to the cosmos. Goodness . Theologians have been debating this for thousands of years.
Please let some more of that genuine altruistic draw the line philosophy flow!!
Yup, Richard Taylor is one monster. Another great story . Thank you this is monster 👍👍👍
Can you imagine being absolutely broke because you can't stop eating at Tim Hortons???
Ikr. Shopping and cooking meals not that hard.
Usually when guilty people are asked questions, they never directly answer! Like where were you last night? Oh, first I lost my phone, then my wife told me about her job promotion and my golden retriever had 8 puppies 😂
I love your videos. From the commentary, to the evidence and how you make the videos. Never stop. 💯
Best storytelling ever- love the occasional “bullshit” also…the best.
Thank you TIMs. Smh. More horrible waste. So incredibly heartbreaking 🙏💔🐾
Thank you for covering an Ontario case! I’m from Toronto and all the places you mentioned are extremely local and familiar. Ontario is a massive province.
....and you never hear anything about Northern Ontario except maybe the crime in Thunder Bay. Hello from Waterloo!
Hello Waterloo!
Another great job! Thank you for the story! It's what I listen to when I get ready for work!
Hello! So excited for another episode. :)
For real👀
You rock! Thank you for your videos. I seriously watch my feed for new videos every week. Thank you.
Great video Jiles ! Always appreciate your work. What a vicious monster Rich is.
Yes !!!!
