  • Jack Ronald Jones and Jerry Lee Beatty stopped to help a stranded motorist, but their intentions were far from selfless. Instead of giving Stephanie Roper a ride, they took her to an abandon house where they tortured and killed her.

All I needed was a kidney stone blasted and the stent they stuck in my kidney removed. Almost a year and me going septic I almost went to jail because it took me literally being the most evil and hateful person to get that surgery. I almost went to jail right from that hospital bed. So yeah. The country is crap. It might not use to be I don't know I am only 27 but now it's bad. I went through dystopia. The medical system showed me that. They said my urine was clean. This trial really shows history that the 80s were otherworldly in so many ways. The judge in the first trial must've owed a favor to the defense attorney. They probably thought they could just do whatever they wanted and no one would pay more attention. But look out for Mr and Mrs Roper! Their actions turning their lives into advocacy are so brave and dedicated. They were truly a "force to be reckoned with." They still hold 5k races to raise funds and awareness. Then all the withholding of information during a trial. Nothing should be help back from the idiot jurors. Too many times important stuff about the criminal's record is kept out of the courts. The jury should know everything about the person on trial. It will usually speak volumes about the person overall character. Things need to change!

What a huge failure of the legal system. And Roberta Roper taking her pain and channeling it into protecting other victims and their families...that is grace under pressure, strength in the face of adversity, and a human being that truly wanted to make lasting changes. Victim advocacy is important, especially with the corruption within our court rooms and prison systems.
Enraging episode, but also an unintentional call for us to protect one another. Very well done, thank you!!

I’ve always said that would the judge in cases like this, or any crime against a child, would the judge have the same view and hand down the bullshit sentences if it was their own child? Here in England paedophiles get given suspended sentences in some cases for the most horrendous crimes. Makes my piss boil.

The judge and the defence were an absolute disgrace in this case. Judge especially since they're supposed to be impartial. This whole thing seemed to be entirely focused on the perpetrators and what they wanted, as if they were somehow the victims. I can't understand the logic. The worthless judge was ignoring the victim and her family, it's so disgusting it doesn't even feel real. He really should have been fired and thank god they managed to get the further sentences for these monsters as well as getting the laws changed.

This case still haunts me. I was 21 years old and lived in NOVA and it was all over the local news and papers. I can still see her anguished mother on TV and it was heartbreaking. Not only did the Ropers lose their beloved daughter, they also had to fight for justice. Her murder was savage and it should have been much easier to convict those MONSTERS. Roberta Roper was the ultimate mama bear. Through her pain and anguish she got justice, changed laws and kept Stephanie’s memory alive.
