Man…I used to HATE the sound of this thing and other drum machines in its class-pre Linn Drum drum machines basically. Then I realized how many songs I absolutely loved that featured this thing. And that’s the thing about it. It just sits back in the mix and supports the rest of the instrumentation. I was a Linn Drum fanatic-and still am. I had downloaded Funk Box on iOS which has a CR-78 interface and CR-78 emulation but also has a lot of other Pre-Linn Drum emulations. Same as the Uno Drum which I also have. But this thing a far superior to both those offerings. So I’m gonna have to add this to my tool box.
I purchased a TR-8S right when I heard that Roland added the CR-78 ABC sounds back in September 2023. I also purchased the Cherry Audio CR-78 plugin due to having the ability to play the preset hybrid rhythms like the original CR-78. (On Cherry Audio CR-78, you can click on a preset rhythm and while holding the Shift button on your keyboard, you click on a second preset rhythm to create a hybrid blend of the two)

This a great plugin and drum-machine BUT if you own a Roland tr-8s you can download the latest firmware 3.0 that adds the CR78 for FREE.
