Jeff Lynne worked with George on this and others, all the way through the Wilburys.
You can hear the ELO strains in this one, for sure.
    Thanks again, Chad.
    Super!

George had a good post Beatles career. This song was a tribute to John Lennon, released in 1981, the year after he was murdered. They remained good friends. John always got a lot of flack and hate for things he said, being brutally blunt and too honest, and was a wild child with a sad upbringing but finally got his act together, became a "peace-nic" and was making great music when he was killed. John led protests against the Vietnam war and was on the FBI suspicion list. That is what the song refers to.
George was the youngest and got deported from Hamburg, Germany because he was playing in creepy clubs at just 17. He had a very droll humour and sponsored "Monty Python's Flying Circus" in some of their crazy endeavours. I like George's "Got my mind set on you" which has a funny video.
Paul McCartney's "Mull of Kintyre" was a #1 for 9 weeks in the 70's and the biggest British hit of the decade. Ringo had a few good LP's and toured until very recently with his "All Star Band" with a lot of top performers. John was just hitting his solo stride when he was killed. All had post Beatles careers.

George wrote this about John the year after John was killed. Many of the clips are from their movies “A Hard Days Night” and “Help” and “Magical Mystery Tour”.

George was my favorite Beatle! Two of my faves are Something and While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I also enjoyed his time with The Traveling Wilburies. George wore the orange uniform in Sargent Peppers as did my favorite Bee Gees Barry Gibb. Keep up the good work!

George was very spiritual and was into Transcendental Meditation. George was introduced to Transcendental Meditation by his wife Patti Boyd Harrison. In February 1968, the Beatles traveled to Rishikesh in northern India to take part in a Transcendental Meditation (TM) training course at the ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The band members arrived in India in mid-February 1968, along with their wives, girlfriends, assistants, and numerous reporters. They joined a group of 60 training to be TM teachers; among the other celebrity mediators were musicians Donovan, Mike Love of the Beech Boys, Paul Horn Jazz flutist, and actress Mia Farrow. While there, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison wrote many songs, and Ringo Starr finished writing his first. Eighteen were recorded for The Beatles ("the White Album"), two others appeared on the Abbey Road album, and others were used for various solo projects. Thanks for sharing George's song All Those Years Ago. George was beautifully gifted and talented. I’m pretty sure this is the third George Harrison song I’ve heard and this was my very first time hearing it. I love the beat and tune of and the guitar in it!🔥 I love all of the footage of The Beatles doing random things. I think it’s so interesting to hear what going solo brings out in an artist. And, if more than one member of the band goes solo, I think it’s so interesting to hear how different they are and to hear the shy ones come out of their shells.

The notion that George was the 'quiet' Beatle was not really accurate. It was more the fact that he was in the huge shadow of John and Paul he wasn't noticed as much. This was his tribute to John after his murder. The lyrics reflect different stages of John's life and personality.
