- Thurmond, West Virginia, was a boomtown in the early 1900s. Now it's a ghost town, but each of the few residents left help govern the town and hope it will be full of life again someday. From video journalist Janet Weinstein in West Virginia.

One of them threw a party and invited the whole town...literally.
Ive only been to Thurmond once. I love this place. Ive been thinking of moving there.
What's up with AJ+ and ghost towns?
Maddix i was thinking the same thing.
but i find ghost town to be pretty cool..:)
I go to this place alot and it is AWESOME. It never gets old for me.
good luck with the moving there. some folks from thurmond have been unable to do that in the past
??? What do you mean moving
a few folks in the past wanted to move back to thurmond but were not allowed to do that@@swiftlantz
I never said I wanted to move there. I just said I visit there alot
Can't wait to go back to West Virginia and see Thurmond and visit.....
1:25 TRY Legalize WEED THEIR IN " THURMORD W.V. "
Mad respect for these people.
Why?
@@thecheese4255 He said mad not sane.
I couldn't stop thinking about Parks and Recreation while watching this video.
what town? how far do they have to drive for work? for groceries? for anything?
Thurmond WV. The closest grocery stores are only about 20 min. About 20 minutes away is also Walgreens, dollar stores, thrift stores, hardware store, etc. 20 min away is AT&T so shouldn’t be a big issue with internet.
I'm there , I visit Thurmond probably twice a week,, Grew up right up the Road from there I love this town
+don elder What is there to do other than hunt? How far do you have to go to a food market or drug store?
Do you know about Ace Raft?
I wanna live there
only thing missing. the C&O
What do they do for a living?
Figure out ways to bilk the productive element of society
If you can build Housing or let me Do it.....it's a Yes....I love the Area !!!
I think it's great that Thurmond is open to the LGBT community and wants green-minded people to live there, but I think it would be really difficult to get green-minded people to move into an historic coal town that exists to be a museum of its own history as a coal town.
yes because green minded people need all of their modern technology
Yep plus “green minded people” would probably have nowhere to charge their electric vehicles….which are actually reliant on coal to get charged in most cases lmfao
@Kyu T Lee Dont think green minded people could handle the fact that modern day trains of CSX corporation run through here daily as much as 8 times a day hauling coal mined in different places, as we speak. Amtrack also runs through here and stops at the old original depot too. Green minded people probably couldnt deal with the noise of diesel train engines with 2 miles of coal shuttle cars passing by so much. Haha. They would lose their minds eventually
How do they have WIFI
Magic
My guess is govt grants
That’s always the answer
The AT&T store is only 20 minutes away.
What if someone moved in
Amazing!!
We just like, you know, care for the environment, LGBTers, have compassion, can be successful here'
Bu-wa-ha-haaa !
.
Lol
1:31 dammit.
Another scary but beautiful ghost town. I want to visit. Do they accept black people?
remoney You would have no trouble there. You would enjoy the ambiance. There is no cell service though.
They accept ALL people......
Still better off than Detroit.
Yeah, you can thank generations of Detroiters or you would be speaking German you damned bigot.
@@dnealgail8244 calm down dude
These boondoggles are a blight upon our state IMO
But, hey, the taxpayer may not be emotionally invested in your halcyon memories... just unwittingly compelled to be financially invested in it
Neat trick
I thought about moving here , but im intolerant of city shit & Californian thinking . ill find a more moral place .
Successful at what!? 😂 its cool if you want to live isolated, but let's not pretend there's actually anything there to be "successful" at. Its not really even a town. Their governance is equivalent to me governing my yard. Mowed once a week.
How do they have WIFI
My guess is grant funding
That seems to be this guy’s specialty
Elon musk duh
