These will lot become plants. The Horticultural term for this process is called a Blind Cutting. The leafs themselves contain no stem cells to become a plant. Yes they will grow roots but you will not replicate the donor specimen. Hope this helps.

@@alfrancis8 it will be a leaf with roots, unless you have a piece of the actual tree , you can take a branch with 4 leafs and cut above and below each leaf, leaving a stem portion, that node where the leaf meets the branch , is where the new plant will grow, you could get four cuttings, or one .

I don't know about all plants, but I have done it successfully with a few diiferent vegetable plants, not with anything in the way of houseplants, they can eventually grow into a plant, but my experience is that you will be waiting many months for any new growth. Then there's the issue of keeping a single leaf alive for many months, which can be challenging, or sometimes impossible. It makes it a bit of a waste of time in my opinion, I certainly won't be doing it again, stems are much less hassle... Anybody that does want to test it, pot them in with the mother plant, that way you dont have to worry as much about individual maintenence on a single leaf.

How long did the leaf take to sprout new growth? I did this with a Ficus Religiosa leaf and it rooted so fast but there has not been any further shoots or growth... its been around 2 months so far since the rooted leaf was potted. Cheers :)
