Hi again MATT Poor fella he was just scared and a bad storm was starting too. Terrible dust! Don't sell him short Matt. He seems smart and is pretty nice and I'm quite sure you can develop him into something very special for someone after the challenge. The Mustangs are foundationally different from the domestically bred horses so mostly have the patience to get his trust and reassure him alot as he progresses. Don't think he's had any of that consistency. Honestly those people truly don't have much horse sense or knowledge. The couple I've worked with turned out wonderfully. I greatly appreciate the history of who they are. Can hardly wait to see you two progress. And yes a helmet would be in order! Thx as always for sharing. A but of excitement for sure...
My dream is to own a Mustang like Raven!!! I just don’t have the enough experience to train one all on my own from straight out of the wild. He’s gorgeous!
Great job guys bringing Raven home - glad you made if safe and sound before the storm! Raven seems to be such a good minded horse (even if he doesn't know much and is terribly scared), but he deserved to find you and now learn under better conditions :-)
Everytime I finish a mustang episode I'm chewing at the bit for the next one. What a great looking mustang, can't wait to see how you gentle him and teach him to rein
That was exciting! Question what the heck was Chad going to do as a horse was jumping out of the trailer? Lol I'm just glad no one got hurt. He sure is a pretty one.
For that amount of money you bought a nice horse! In the Netherlands even for a "green", scared 7 year old horse with no papers you would easily have to about pay 1750 to 2000 euro's at the moment (if not more) ... It blows my mind that you can buy a horse for only 170 dollars! You'll have a nice project with him but imagine what that horse will look like after a few months of good food and some training.. He will be beautiful!
wow its a lot of money knowing the euro's worth is almots double Canadian dollars! here in Quebec, you can pay 300-600 Canadian dollars for that kind of horse. But wathever the price Matt will definitly make a pretty nice horse with this one 😎
We had some online actions the last few weeks over here.. Well bred dressage and jumping foals.. Some are sold for over 40.000 euro... The "top foal" of 1 auction even sold for over 70.000 euro Unseen in real life and about 4 months old. That blows my mind as well!🤣
I was so into watching you being in the trailer with Raven I am a volunteer firefighter I almost missed a call you have some serious guts or as Karen said crazy. Great Job
First you make us wait two weeks... and now we get treated two vids in one week! There's just something about ya'lls banter that makes a person wanna hang and laugh with ya'll!🤣 Honestly though, that Mustang is no worse than a half ass handled QH Yearling, sucker ain't that rank... but he is 7!
He is a good looking pony. Can't wait to watch you work him!!! You gave a little nod to Clinton Anderson. Whatever happened with that challenge? Are you keeping his name Raven? Im a little doubtful he has been called by his name enough to know what it is! I would have paid money to see Karen with you on that trip!
@@mattmillsreining1 I did a double take in your first scene and thought I recognized the way you ride. Then went and looked online and didnt see you having credit on IMDB. Was starting to question myself until I saw you in the backseat giving Jimmy a hard time. Congrats!!
Oh lort!! You gotta practice for the road to the horse buddy!!! 😂😬😉 Raven is going to be a good boy. Let me know if you need some ground work tips without moving his feet around and tiring him out. He’s going to be such a big mover ❤️
This one gonna pulll your horsemanship up a level, over all it went great. But Chad was in some bads spots on the lead, he could have easily gotten stuck by a front foot or ran over, safety for the horsemen and the horse is a fundamental part of horsemanship. Keep safe and keep em coming this is great.
Really glad you got that horse..... looking forward to more of you and him.... I have a mustang mutt pony [[[[ photo is what you see ]]]].... I wouldn't sell him for a zillion dollars....
The last thing this horse needs is anything to do with CA and his methods. I like how the other guy patted and scratched Raven to reassure him when he was afraid to go into the barn. He responds much better (as does any horse) to these training techniques. Nice job.
@@jenniferwheeler9327 is that before or after he bullies them and scares the shit out of them and runs them to death?!. Because I've never seen him love on a horse during the method. And positive reinforcement isn't loving on horses. There's a difference.
Adding stimuli you want your horse desensitized to helps them learn what NOT to be scared of in the future. You can't ask a plastic bag to lie still so it doesn't scare your horse. Scaring in an intelligent way until they relax is a controlled technique and used by competent horsepeople worldwide. Horses are allowed to air up all the time in the method, it's not about running them into exhaustion, it's about respecting your body and cues. If a horse is disrespectful by their own herd standards (not just human) they get their feet moved and try again for respect. Teaching new skills rewards a small try with release of pressure and rubbing. Maybe you're watching CA method, but you're not getting the full understanding. Matt Mills respects CA and talked about using his method when catching and haltering the mustang.
@@jenniferwheeler9327 That's not the proper way to do desensitization. Scaring as you mentioned is not a controlled technique, and should not be used in any animal training. It's very dated, and as science has proven there are better methods than pressure/release that should be used in many instances (including the catching and haltering). Horses aren't "disrespectful". They don't have the cognitive ability to make a decision to do that. That's anthropomorphism. They only do what they know through reinforcement history. And in a herd, they compete for resources. It has nothing to do with getting their feet moved. When teaching new behaviors, an animal is rewarded when making the correct decision and doing that behavior by receiving a reinforcer.I understand CA's method completely. I have been a professional animal trainer for over 25 years, and know the science behind training. I am an Animal Scientist, in addition to being a trainer. I have trained species including but not limited to horses, dogs, cats, monkey, chimpanzees, bats, shrews, prosimians, carnivores, rats, birds, and others. Pressure and release is part of the four quadrants of animal training (negative reinforcement), and is used in horse training, but it is better used in conjunction with positive reinforcement, and not in the way CA uses it in groundwork.
How is Raven doing? Our family is waiting for a new Mustang Matt. How's it going? (This is from my 8 year old daughter. She's been stalking your page and wanted to send you a message saying she needs more Matt!)
Hey Matt, don't underestimate the mustang power LOL, First Raven has great confirmation, he is just beautiful, don't forget Marsha H. earn his trust. safety is key with mustangs. go slow and let him think. they are amazing horses and make wonderful partners if you earn their trust. slow and steady is always best with mustangs
You definitely chose the right horse. Nice hips, legs look good, the price was more than right, what more can you ask? I look forward to seeing how he comes along. This horse will end up being Karen's pet!!
Hi matt good luck with raven you k ow you can get his information through the blm try to shave his brand to look at the symbols it will tell you where he is from what herd management area what year he was born
if you would have take a real quiet horse with you to pick u[ the mustang ride home and unloading would have been pretty uneventful but i guess you needed to stimulate your fans let er buck

Chad redeemed himself in this episode. He did a great job handling Raven. Not sure how you resisted the temptation to shut him in the stall.
Karen saying “Ohhh nooo…” HAD ME SCREAMING
reminded me of me talking to my mom about a toxic cheap horse I found on Craigslist 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣

I suppose a lip chain or lip cord would have made things worse! I'm pretty sure he's just scared like you said!

Yes!
It’s too bad the previous owner didn’t have the papers. It would have been interesting to see which herd management area he came from.

He is actually awesome, I have high hopes for him and little doubt he will be great. His front feet are a mess!
