- During our cycling tour of Japan in Osaka in the busy streets of Shinsaibashi, we stumbled across a big bicycle logo with the words "bicycle garage" and some stairs to a mysterious basement. We couldn't resist going inside and to our surprise we found a very nice bike shop.
Palm Garage is a custom city bike shop in Osaka founded in 1976. They focus on making smart and simple family friendly bicycles.

Palm Garage FB - / palmgarage
The owner inherited the shop from her father and now runs the shop. She was very nice to us during our visit and kindly allowed us to film this video.

Love seeing a bike shop not obsessed with soulless aero and lightweight carbon bikes.
Yes, this was a nice change of pace :)
@@TwoWheelCruise ooooo cheeky
So true
wow
I love old bicycle shops.....thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching :)
Love, love this episode. This is the type of bike traveling that I am interested in. Please do more of local shops videos.
Thanks! We will definitely be making more videos like this :)
Lovely little shop.
The Best store, support small business.
Yes, this was a very nice shop with good community support :)
That Pashley bike looks like the Royal Mail postie bikes they used here before they switched to driving out somewhere and then delivering with a cart they push around. I wish they would go back to bikes, especially now with so many e-Cargo bike options to choose from.
When I was a kid I thought about becoming a postman but the switch to vans was happening around that time so I gave up.
Interesting! Bikes are the future 😎
Pashley made all the Royal Mail bikes. Many went to Kenya for a second life as they were so well made and durable.
An excellent Discovery! Like the portable bike stand which is useful when one's bike does not have a permanent stand. Very impressive and superb display. Wish I can visit it when the pandemic is over. Greetings from Chan, Mareshia.
Glad you enjoyed! It was a nice find and we liked that portable bike stand.
Beautiful shop and good to see something different than the usual huge monster brands. Would love to struggle choosing the right color and handlebar... 😁On top a family business, nice owner...good vibes. Thanks for showing Cruise. Take care both 😉
Unlimited color choices certainly don't make it easy 😅
That's a cool bike😍
I was born in San Diego but my mom was from Osaka. Nice bike shop.
great video, I will be coming to Osaka, Japan in the near future and am looking to buy a bike on the cheap, what is more cost efficiency, a woman's bike or a guys bike, am looking to save a few bucks, and want to get one on the cheap with basket both front and back, so that I can carry groceries 😋, thanks - CyberGod
Unique place
What an amazing discovery of a little bike shop, would definitely buy something there; saw a few items I really liked, I’ve never seen custom brakes like that but they are super cool, thank you guys for showing us this little gem.
I was really glad we found this place 🙂
This video is priceless. I have seen that brake setup in the past which always seemed cool. Shops like these are exactly where we miss it here in the states. Granted in japan and as it use to be in so many Asian countries bike commuting is and was a fact of the Asian lifestyle. this shops bike designs just make so much practical sense for in and close to town commuting. No glitz, no bling and no supper materials, just elegant, practical, durable and effectively practical designs.
Thanks! I agree, I really loved how simple and down to earth the place and their business model was.
reverse brakes! awesome. Love your bike tour vids.
Thanks! :)
That's a cool shop. Many custom bikes and items. Thanks for sharing...😎👍👌👊🚴♂️🚴♀️
Thanks for watching! :)
Very cool of you to stop in to a small shop like that. Hopefully, she gets some new customers because of you two visiting and posting a tour. Nice way to keep your channel content fresh while helping someone out. I dig it.
Glad you enjoyed! :)
Really cool shop. Some very nice bikes (that mini-velo is gorgeous). Thanks for showcasing them. I'm planning on retiring this year and doing a little traveling and you've made Japan a really interesting place to go to. If I get there, I'll have to definitely check out this shop. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed! Japan is full of nice gems :)
bicycles with personality 🚴🏿♀️ 🚴🏿 🚴🏿♂️ 🚵🏿♀️ 🚵🏿 🚵🏿♂️
😍
The mixte frame with trackends @3:21 is killing me... That thing is absolutely bananas. I'd love to build that up... so much.
Fun little gem of bike shop you found.
We got lucky :)
pls visit corsa corsa for vintage road bikes
That's a pretty cute Bike store. Loved that blue and white bike.
It was a very charming shop :)
The hat designs made me think of an elderly man either going fishing or on vacation.
Very nice retro/minimalist style bikes. It's good to see that you can get a personalized bike in Japan.
We were very happy we came across this shop :)
Reminded me of a novelty shop. Not many bikes but plenty key chains.
A great random find
Loved this video, glad u found this hole in the wall and what a treasure. Will definitely visit when I return to Japan within next 2-3 years. Glad the owner came out to speak to you, as you could see her legs around the corner when you started showing the back wall and the leg disappeared. P.S. The final YT commercial was for “Swytch” out of U.K. I hope they will sponsor u going forward.
Saw the bicycle logo and couldn't resist going in to check it out :)
The owner was really nice, but a bit shy to be in the video 😅
Nice to see we're getting some targeted ads. We have some fun sponsor product videos coming up soon ;)
What fantastic bikes! Great find.
really an amazing viewing, nice to watch videos full of innovative creatives around Asia watching over and over again makes me happy to watch the videos you make on this channel, Bicycles extraordinary bicycles extraordinary
Oh I have to remember this bike shop for when I can fly back . I need that koi cycling hat and tape . I hope someday you find a Bianchi Cafe , they have one in Tokyo and Kyoto I heard ? Nice video again !
Lots of interesting shops we still need to check out!
Wow what a lovely place! When I get back to Japan, I definitely will be making your bike shop tour guide! Awesome place, lovely custom bikes and you can simple tell that they are really putting everything to make custom and amazing bikes for their customers. That’s the kind of places where you can build your trully own personal bike experience!
Excellent video! Keep up the good work 🤟🏻
Thanks! This was a lovely shop we were very lucky to find :)
Greetings from Brazil! I love your videos. An exclusive video about the Japanese minivelo bicycles would be great! Thank you!
I never expected to see a Pashley much less other "Old English" style bikes being sold there. Perhaps even Rivendell and the like are available there as well. I guess there are those that want to stand out from the crown in Japan just as much as America and England.
That was a very cool custom import surprise :)
Wow , cool .. nice to see it again
Those look like the Velo Orange handle bars and brakes, I've got the same ones on my bike :D. Very cool shop!
Wow, I LOVE that Haura bar tape!
Great video! I’ll be sure to add this to my itinerary on my next visit to Japan , really like those caps and bar tapes especially
Thanks! It's definitely worth a visit and the owner is really nice!
Cool Shop
Watching here my friend from Manila, Philippines
Thanks! :)
gorgeous bikes ❤
We agree!
I've neen of line for a few days with P C problems ( my P.C was hacked ) , but bow all is fixed and running ; Missed You vids and now enderouring to catch up !
Welcome back! PC problems are no fun..
Hii im watching your videos i also live here in Japan and i want to buy a mtb bike or road bike what bicycle or bicycle brands can you recommend to me below ¥ 100,000? I only have small budget thankyou :)
It really depends on the type of bike you want.. There are plenty of options at that price range.
ohh I like the koifish cycling cap
Yes, that was really cool!
Thank you, Cruise. That was an interesting video. When you said custom, you weren't kidding. Wow! Did you ask the owner the theory behind putting a single brake on the front?
I didn't ask, but I think that is pretty common for single speeds?
Nice - I asked for more mom and pop type bike stores - thanks! I know you did the "cycling laws" video some time ago; how about a video about sidewalk bike etiquette in Japan? I am amazed at how seamlessly people share the sidewalk with cyclists. When I lived in NYC it was actually illegal for cyclists to ride on the sidewalk.
Basically it's a lot of grey zone 😅
@@TwoWheelCruise They are ridiculously cool with it - I could imagine myself running over 10 people a day!
The hip pack looks nice on Thuong chan!
Do you recommend any kind of hip pack (or waist pack) for cycling?
Thanks! We got these cheap at a market in Vietnam. There are lots of good options ;)
I am from Indonesia 👍👍👍❤
Cool shop. I want to look for some Moca pant savers
Pant savers are life savers
Waiting
Thanks! :)
The red bike with the basket is an ex royal mail postman bike! The Ashley model
5:45... the shop owner confirms this. (imported from UK and modified for Japanese-size customers)
Didn't know it at first until she told me, but that's really cool!
Great bike shop, do you have a link to the bike mobile stand?
Glad you enjoyed. Unfortunately I don't have the product links, but you may be able to search for it.
New subscriber 😊
I used to have one of those bike but it broke down and its hard to find part here in my country
Wowowow
Do you know a good bike shop in Osaka for used bikes? When I've been to Osaka I had the luck to buy one from a local. But I saw a lot of tourist trap rent and buy bike shops, they wanted 40 dollars for an old rusted front wheel from a normal city bike (I was looking for a new front wheel). I'm lolling for something that isn't exceeding like 200dollars/euro so around 32.000yen max.
Thank you for showing. I wonder if a Minivelo can be used by heavy riders?
Glad you enjoyed! I think it depends on the model / wheels / tires
Great video...I want one of those bikes!! Lots of people wearing masks. Are they now mandated in Japan??
Japan has high social pressure, so no mandate required, but most indoor places will require them.
Can you make a vid about mini velos
I really like your videos
Definitely! Thanks :)
Sigh, I'd love to buy a Collection in British racing green, but looks like they're not selling international any time soon.
I don't think they ever considered focusing on the international market, but might be worth trying to ask.
Hey, Cruise... the custom bar-tape and caps, are they made from kimono material? (did the shop keeper even mention that?)
I'm not sure, I didn't hear that.

Another youtuber, "Sparkuus" takes in old, worn-out kimonos and makes neckties of the reclaimed material. That's what brought it to my mind, when I saw the patterns. Mark (Sparkuus) Visser is from Guelph, Ontario (not terribly far from Detroit) and now lives in Chikugo City, Fukuoka Prefecture, with his family.
Hi, do you know if Palmgarage offers custom made road bike and ship to Toronto, Ontario Canada? Thank you
I believe they only focus on local customers.
