    Aluminum is highly recyclable. So is glass. Paper, if they could make it work without the plastic liner would be okay but still not great because the material breaks down each time it is used to make a new material (which is not the same as recycling). A paper container with a plastic liner is even worse than 100% PET because separating the parts won’t be cost effective.

      Plastic bottles are actually pretty recyclable
      It's kinda a bad system tho

    So . . . to make their bottles easier to recycle, they turned what was just plastic (relatively straightforward to recycle) into a combination of paper and plastic (which isn't worth a recycling processor's time to deal with and therefore would be sent straight to landfill). Congrats

    Those saying to just use glass really need to read up on the very large amount of energy required to manufacture and recycle glass bottles. Also, glass bottles are a serious safety hazard. Good for Coca-Cola.

  • @SirFlukealot
    @SirFlukealot 2 года назад +1

    How about Coke let you trade in one of their glass bottles for a sealed full one at a retailer, and then take the empty bottles back when they deliver fresh ones to retailers. They can then wash out those empty glass bottles and re fill them with more coke.

    So after driving the world's usage of plastic bottles that end up in China and/or the ocean, they're gonna act super green and make a plastic bottle with a paper wrapper and we are supposed to get excited for the environment?

  • @lonckelph
    @lonckelph 3 года назад +5

    It is very hard to to then separate the thin plastic layer from the paper. Ridiculous. The only way is 1 glas bottle, the same for the entire world. Or reusable container in aluminum where we could resupply with a minimum of 1L. Making bottles of 1, 2, 5 liters.

    Cutting down even more trees is a step forward? I will never buy coke products again!

    • @4ll4ll
      @4ll4ll 3 года назад

      Believe it or not using more paper means planting more trees by the paper companies which grow in a controlled manner for years

    • @4ll4ll
      @4ll4ll 3 года назад

      @Mike r u kidding me? u need to research how paper/wood companies work. they done it for decades and they even have more trees now

    • @4ll4ll
      @4ll4ll 3 года назад

      @Mike omg u sent me your thesis :D thanks for the info

    • @4ll4ll
      @4ll4ll 3 года назад

      @Mike Most trees used for paper come from forests called
      managed timberlands. Even though the trees in
      these timberlands may look like “woods,” they are
      an agricultural crop - like vegetables on a farm. The
      trees are grown to be made into products for human
      use. Not using paper in order to save trees is like
      not eating salad in order to “save” vegetables.
      In fact, many forests might not exist in the fi rst place
      if trees weren’t planted and harvested by industry.
      It takes from 10 - 20 years for trees to grow until
      they are large enough for harvesting. During that
      time, those trees are part of a community of plants
      and animals, and their environment space is known
      as an ecosystem.

    • @4ll4ll
      @4ll4ll 3 года назад +1

      More trees are planted every year than are cut down. This is due in
      most part to the success of managed timberlands. Whenever trees are
      harvested, more trees are planted to take their place. Timberlands can be
      managed to produce trees and forest products forever

    This is nonsense. Remember when milk was sold in half gallon cardboard containers? That is also paper product. Mexico sells all their milk products in cardboard or plastic. The non refrigerated milk is on the shelf in cardboard containers. So is soy, almend, and coconut drinks.

  • @anicetune
    @anicetune 3 года назад

    There's nothing wrong with plastic. The problem is with getting rid of it once it's been used - and that's nothing that tougher litter laws, drives to get people to recycle and glass alternatives can't fix.
