Harry Miller is a former police officer and CEO of the Bad Law Project and Fair Cop, organisations that aim to depoliticise democratic institutions, and support those facing discrimination for their political beliefs. Miller appeared on TRIGGERnometry in January 2020 after he was investigated by police over a poem that he'd posted on Twitter. The police officer told Miller, "I need to check your thinking."

As a former Police Officer the reason this nonsense is happening is because any member of the public can make an allegation and the police are forced to record / report it due to Home Office rules, no matter how stupid it is. Once a report has been made it needs be closed or some sort of outcome is needed. Due to ass covering and a general blame culture within the police very few in management will make a decision that some things are either not crimes or not in the public interest to pursue. This leads to the youngest and most inexperienced officers being given these types of cases to ‘investigate’. They often use Community Resolutions to close crime reports as it’s the quickest and easiest way for them to get rid of these nonsense cases. As Harry said they don’t allow officers to use their common sense, officers are bullied with fear of criticism from making their own decisions. Meanwhile real crime isn’t being investigated properly at all.

The reasons in my view are many, but primarily the training and supervision standards are shockingly bad now. How are you expected to uphold the law when it’s increasingly evident officers and immediate supervisors don’t know it?
Police officers seem to have also lost the ability to talk to the public they serve, which I always thought was our bread and butter.
Some crime you can’t solve or find an offender for immediately, but if you speak to the victim of say a burglary, and at least show you care and are trying this goes a long way I found. How long does that take out of your day? 5 minutes?
When I started we were also told our biggest power was discretion, as long as it was justified and your logic was sound and recorded..
    Common sense?
Unfortunately, this view is considered archaic now and people like me from the same era are dinosaurs.
It’s a massive shame the police service has come to this and personally I’m glad I’m not part of it anymore which I thought I’d never say.

This has been brewing a long time, this story was 20 years ago.
When my daughter was 5 she and her friends where chatting in assembly. The teacher asked "who at the back doesn't want to sing", to which my daughter put her hand up. After school that day the teacher took me to one side to tell me what my daughter had done and stressed that Mrs Mason (piano player) was upset. I was so close to saying "Well Mrs Mason needs to get a life", but my daughter was by my side. Instead I said "I have brought my daughter up not to lie, you asked her a question and she answered truthfully, what do you think she did wrong? Are you saying she should have lied? If you don't want a truthful answer I suggest you don't ask her questions".
The "being kind" little white lies is how they condition people into accepting bigger lies, it is a slippery slope.
This was the first of our many clashes, the second of which prompted me to stand for election to parent governor of the school and get elected. The teachers at the secondary school were no better. They just want to force our children into being compliant drones, what starts as not upsetting Mrs Mason ends up at "don't speak out against state propaganda".

This is actually less true in the UK than elsewhere, say Germany, where aftermarket car parts are completely verboten. Can't even change your lightbulbs to LED in Germany, even if its for improved safety and lower emissions. About 5 - 10 years ago scientists figured out how to squeeze 15-30% more fuel efficiency out of the combustion engine, whilst reducing emissions and fuel dependency. None of that technology has made it to production vehicles, except for a Mazda engine (skyactiv) which is some handicapped version of the HCCI engine. But that is when the push to switch to electric cars really started - before alternative fuel RCCI engines could be made and pandora's box is opened.

Having been a total supporter of the police I experienced a false arrest (I'm a person who has never even comitted a parking offence in my life!.. really!) . They lied, broke PACE, and when they realised they had got it wrong kept making up yet another offence to arrest me on instead of some admitting they'd got it wrong. It was a complete shock to me , it felt as if the world had gone insane as I knew I was completely and utterly innocent. They even rang my boss in a clear attempt to try and get me I to trouble when nothing g would stick..... the supposed offences had nothing to do with my job!. I was quiet, polite and fully operative. It helped me not one iota. In the end they had to release me of course but stole well over 24 hours of my life. I now see them as the enemy. The ego and power craze was unreal. I saw first hand that dead eyed "we are the law, WE decide if you can live free" with my own eyes. It was a total world shock to me.

You know, England, as a child and even now, was a fancy, rockin' and traditional utopia in my mind. With it's monarchy and class system and it's awesome Victorian herretige. The birthplace of Heavy metal, Punk rock and Tea-Time and my favorite chocolate, After Eight! With it's iconic buildings like The London Bridge and Big Ben, and the absolutely gorgeous Big Houses... and the most beautiful flag of all, The Union Jack! For Goths sake, England 🇬🇧 was the first country to outlaw slavery and your national dish is a Indian dish, there is so much history in England, and it pains me to the core to see this once proud Britain sink so low... I can figure out what will be on the dumb test. People ask why I am learning French. There is no need for French where I live. As a thought exercise, I highly recommend that you look at it not just as left or right, but also as authoritarian vs anarchy, and see where you fall.
There's a BIG difference between left and right on social issues and left and right on financial issues. And that's only two major categories. If you take it further, there are even more.
I'm finding an increasing number of people are having to separate those ideas for the first time, really, because on the social side, the parties have basically flip-flopped (now the right wants individual freedom and to be left alone, whereas back in the 80s, THEY were the authoritarians) but on the fiscal side, the parties haven't really changed much. (Not saying they haven't changed at all - I'm trying to keep this fairly simple is all.)
Seriously, I have had to do some reevaluating of my own in the last few years - and it's worth looking at, I think.
Most importantly, IMO, you will have a better understanding of where you stand and what issues are most important to you, and that helps a lot.
Good luck, everyone. I think we're going to need it.

This time I really have been triggered. Chilled me to the bone. This has been my favourite episode this year. If people still can't admit what is wrong with the "progressives", I've lost all hope. I agree with everything this man has said. I'm not from the UK but the only thing I would add to his assessment is that it started with _language_, I think "Political" correctness is where it started. When you start controlling the words people use, you are controlling their thinking as well. It seems to me that historically, speech is supposed to evolve organically. Words become too old fashioned for the younger generation and trendy words get added to everyday speech, but obliging societies to drop certain words to be replaced with an _acceptable_ alternative and then ostracizing ALL people who don't use the appropriate word is tyrannical. Thing is we listen to these horror stories but can't take action. As long as people have something to lose, most of us cannot act, and we become apathetic. The powers that be understand the psychology of the masses. They just keep slowly but surely encroaching on our freedom and we get used to it. Maybe I didn't express this in the best way, but I think most people understand what I mean.
