You both provide a great deal of context and nuance that I think is often lacking and it goes to show why this channel has really stood out. Keep up the good work!
Alien Isolation is hands down one of the most terrifying experiences across any form of media. Opening doors with your back to the room and praying you don't get molested is anxiety inducing - GREAT homage to Ridley Scott's original vision for Alien.
For a guy who claims not to be an expert on various topics, Glen does a remarkably good job of summarising public opinion in a very modest way - all while protesting that he doesn't know too much about the subject. Genuinely great content.
I think this is my favourite 12 days video yet! I think although loosely sci-fi, I'd also want to include spectrum retreat, one of my favourite switch games!
Wow, two years ago I asked you guys to do a best sci-fi games for switch video and you guys actually did it xD!! I doubt you did it in honour of me but still I like to imagine that now heh.
I'd like to mention the Jedi Knight games, Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy! (Btw Everspace was the first review I ever watched from Switchup. Great game!)
Great video, like the discussions between the both of you. Was Mark in a different location as he sounded like he was commenting over Teams or Zoom. Mark, you’re not the only one who likes Janeway and Star Trek Voyager. Big Star Trek Nerd here. 😅 Wishing you both a Happy and safe Covid free Christmas.
Really loving the format of these videos, it’s great to hear two friends have a good time talking about games and cracking jokes together. Also, the wishlist continues to grow, newest member: Everspace!
Carrion is worth a mention. It's nice looking through the eyes of the villain. A nice change of pace and perspective. Also a fun metroidvania. I really enjoy Valfaris. Wish it was a little easier. Very difficult game indeed. Music is fantastic.
Really enjoy this almost podcast style of chatting. Hyperlight Drifter is a pure delight. I did actually finish the game and it's a prime example of a game that you can't have a break from otherwise you lose it and have to spend ages getting the moves back into your fingers.
Really enjoying the chat between you guys again feels like we're all down the pub having pint talking games! Definitely going to pick up rebel galaxy not sure how I've missed this one.
The more time goes on and more other cyberpunk games I play, the more I appreciate both Observer and State of Mind. These titles have aged quite well over the last few years. Such great sci-fi experiences! Especially if they're on sale
1: Alien Isolation is hands down my favorite horror video game of all time and having played it since 2012 up to now and not only holding up still better than majority of new horror games now 2: ALIEN and ALIENS are two of my favorite movies of all times and to say ive immersed myself in the alien universe is too simplistic but even before the game was initially released and they talked about development of the game including what helped create the story - the original directors cut had several scenes cut that created the theatrical release and one was a 2 -3 minute or so where Burke informs Ripley about her family including her daughter (incidentally the photo used in the film is Sigorney Weaver’s real mom) Amanda had passed away of old age and this scene is what provided the jumping point to create this game. If you havent played Alien : Isolation and love horror games you can’t pass up esp when on sale!
Ah this reminds me how much I want to play Observer. I got it for ridiculously cheap during a sale but of course it's in the backlog. Some sci-fi games I've played and recommend would be Astral Chain and Transistor. I stopped playing Astral Chain because both my sets of joy cons got drift while playing it, after years of working fine, but looking back it was probably just because it was the first game I played on the Switch that required intense controller use. Before that it was mostly just turn based RPGs, strategy games, and Stardew Valley. I still want to go back and finish it, but it's been so long I'd probably have to start from the beginning again.
Really interested in that Alien Game, as it feel more RE 1-4 than 5-7. The idea of surviving against an indestructible Xenomorf is intriguing. Star Wars: KOTOR is a classic, nice to see it on the switch. Never thougth about how taking from the franchise rather than the main movies makes for a more memorable experience. Hyper light drifter looks like a Link to the Past meets a neon edm festival👀 Great video guys, only 4 more to go!💯🥲 Now on to the sales videos 🤣
So, I saw the video, went and bought State of Mind and you were right. It's a lot more on the sci-fi visual novel field, but it looks great and the story really hooks you, and for that very frequently low sale price! Definitely worth it, thank you!
Sweet list. I put a load of hours into Rebel Galaxy Outlaw and still have it installed on my Switch with the intent to go back soon. Love that game. Everspace seems like a game I could get really into as well, if I put just a few more hours into it than I have. You included lots of other "must have" games on this list too. Love it. Keep up the great work!
I half expected that guard to turn around and kill the player when Glen dropped his earpiece at 25:35 . Great video as always and this format is nice while doing things around the house while checking in to see what they're talking about. Valfaris reminds me a lot of Classic Earthworm Jim for anyone who remembers it. Lots of good games on here I could see myself picking up.
I first played KOTOR after you guys reviewed it here on this channel. And I fell in love with it, once I start a new save nothing can hold me back from just binge playing trough it. Thanks for showing me this gem!
Have to also add Starlink if you look past the toy parts it started out with. Amazingly fun space and planetary shooter. Plus we had star fox on switch.
This breaks my heart. I loved the introduction of Jar Jar Binks! Maybe I’m alone on that, and that’s ok. Another great video though guys. Glad to see both of you back together for this series. Switch has something for everyone!
Rebel Galayy Outlaw is basically a remake of 1993's Wing Commander Privateer. It's a fantastic game if you're a fan of oldschool story-driven space shooters.
I wish all your videos were in this longer form discussion/podcast style. Great banter and good chemistry with lots of fantastic games. Sometimes I'd love to hear a BIT more about the games, like The Outer Worlds here didn't get as much description as it did a commentary on it's Switch performance. I think describing the game a bit more would be great; Fallout New Vegas is good but the story in The Outer Worlds is dark, the characters are funny, the writing is great, and there's really quite a bit of depth to it all. The game lets you do things your own way and the launch of the game left a major scar on it's reputation. It runs great now and I've bought it twice on Switch. To anyone reading this definitely look into The Outer Worlds. I think I've written a similar comment like this before. I just LOVE the game. It's one of my top played games on Switch with the most hours near Zelda, Animal Crossing, Fortnite (yeah I played a lot for a while), and all the other multiple hundred hour games. The DLC for The Outer Worlds is a nice addition for those who want more too.
My definite Sci-Fi game picks are o.a. Hyperlight drifter and Transistor (both gorgeous gems). Have Metroid Dread and Astral Chain on my to play list. Love your banter in your vids. Keep (Switch) Up the great work guys!
best sci-fi, shooter, action role playing, adventure. Stealth, space combat, platforming, puzzle solving, trade sim, massive multiplayer on the market. How it runs as beautifully as it does on the switch is a wizardry unto its self.
State of Mind may not be perfect, but the story and visual style really dragged me in to it! This one will for sure look good (and worth a second run) on the Switch OLED giveaway with it's high contrast combination of inky blacks, neon lights and reflections! 😁
I would add to it Starlink: Battle of Atlas. A lot of people sleep on it but I think its amazing space exploration game with RPG element. Yeah story is 🧀 but I found the game so addictive. And sometimes you can find it on sale for $15.
I’m not a big fan of science fiction (unless it’s a book), but i did enjoy Alien Isolation. I tried playing it on handheld but i switched to docked mode after a few minutes, turns out It was more frightening and nerve-racking and more immersive that way because the xenomorph was bigger and seemed more menacing and more murderous 😆 this game is definitely one of the best on the Switch
I just wanted to weigh in with the Steam World games (first 3). Heist is my favourite and feels a lot more sci-fi. I havent played any of these games in the video- l do love the look of Crysis and can't wait to play Metroid Dread. Edit: Thanks for another great video guys, a lovely list and great to hear why you enjoyed each of the games within it.
Purely digital, not riding on the sale of toys but with the digital edition also existing. The publisher lost money on the toys when they were expecting it to be their own Skylanders - when that style of games was on the way out. The failure and loss killed what could have been a great franchise.
Your banter is so funny, I feel like I'm sitting down with you 2 in a room listening to you. This series is so great. Keep it up. Can't wait for the rest of the week.
Alien Isolation is an amazing game. I never got to finish it because my file got corrupter on the PC so the fact that the switch port is great makes me want to pick up the game again.
I enjoyed (well still enjoying) Starlink Battle for Atlas, didn't even mind the little toys that you had to add, they were so cheap after a while, though all digital is handier.
Knights of the old republic for the win, I have this one and the Jedi knight series and they are all well worth it, may the force be with you all, merry Christmas, SwitchUp back at it with being Santa clause this year lol
I was gunna say metroid was really the only sci-fi game I loved for the switch because I didn't think anything else I played would be in that theme. But then you said hyper light drifter. My personal favorite indie of all time. Oh I guess there is also borderlands...
Mark killed me with the everyone has a mate named Dave because my best mate is a Dave and honestly Mark you hit the head on the nail with the outer worlds. Yes the performance isn't great but its 100% playable especially in handheld and I love the game. Ive been sinking hours and hours into it over the past week and it deff scratches the fallout new vegas itch, so many dialogue options and its just a great experience imo. Cheers for another great video and seeeeeee yaaaaaa on the next one!
Actually one of my earlier Switch games I bought because of you was the Way Remastered (which has 90% discount most of the time). Oldstyle gameplay with a great atmosphere and a lot longer then I thought. Planet Alpha is also a smaller recommendation with a big discount. Lovely world where it's almost a walking simulator with some platforming and puzzles which you can finish in a day or 2 but gives a nice experience.
One that is frequently on sale for super cheap and that I was surprised by just how much I enjoyed the game is DEX. If you are a fan of western style RPG's this is a good one to try out for how cheap it is. Assuming the ports end up being good, the Shadowrun collection is another set of very good games (albeit more in the science fantasy genre than actual science fiction).
A chill video to watch/listen while doing something else. Great vid guys. PS. Might I add the game Space Crew from the makers of Bomber Crew. I really like the gameplay where you manage your spaceship across different missions and equipping weapons for specific enemies. I highly recommend that one.
Games I'd add to here (although maybe low hanging fruit) are the entire Doom collection, Duke Nukem 3d, BulletStorm, Borderlands, Bioshock collection, and XCOM.
Would Astral Chain qualify here ? Also, if it's not going to have a sequel, would LOVE to see a next gen upgrade to Alien Isolation. It already looks good I know, but hey why not. Would keep playing it again, and again, &....
Hyper Light Drifter is a must grab, I was lucky enough to pick up the physical from Limited Run Games. Axiom Verge was also an amazing must buy metroidvania, I wish I had the physical of the AV1. Highly recommend both games.
Astral Chain and Subnautica are the first games that come to mind as favorites in the sci-fi genre. There are some cool games on this list I'll have to try out

I would add to it Starlink: Battle of Atlas. A lot of people sleep on it but I think its amazing space exploration game with RPG element. Yeah story is 🧀 but I found the game so addictive. And sometimes you can find it on sale for $15.
I couldn't get into Outer Worlds on PC, but every time I see it on Switch it does look so much better than I remember
Everspace is just amazing, isolation also is one of the best games I've played.
Same... looking also to get into Chorus here soon
Loved the long format guys, I’d love to see more of these
I’m not a big fan of science fiction (unless it’s a book), but i did enjoy Alien Isolation. I tried playing it on handheld but i switched to docked mode after a few minutes, turns out It was more frightening and nerve-racking and more immersive that way because the xenomorph was bigger and seemed more menacing and more murderous 😆 this game is definitely one of the best on the Switch
YES !!
State of Mind was surprisingly fairly engaging. It's not my typical cup of tea, but I picked it up on a whim and really enjoyed it
I just wanted to weigh in with the Steam World games (first 3). Heist is my favourite and feels a lot more sci-fi.
I havent played any of these games in the video- l do love the look of Crysis and can't wait to play Metroid Dread.
Edit: Thanks for another great video guys, a lovely list and great to hear why you enjoyed each of the games within it.
Eventually I'll be brave enough to try Alien Isolation.
Really liked Everspace despite it getting very repetitive.
Two SwitchUp videos in one day! This must be Christmas!!!
My pick, Starlink! Such an underrated game. The game I wanted No Man’s Sky to be.
If Starlink was released as purely digital it would have been a lot more successful and there would have already been a sequel.
@@andrebrynkus2055 Starlink was released fully digital. The toys were not required.
Metroid dread and astral chain on top of my list. Great content as always. Keep it up!
Crying Suns is an amazing sci fi game. My favorite on the switch. Also Carrion, The Fall, and Star Renegades.
Oh yeah Starlink !! Another great one...
Knights of the old republic for the win, I have this one and the Jedi knight series and they are all
well worth it, may the force be with you all, merry Christmas, SwitchUp back at it with being Santa clause this year lol
Good pick! I only ever played Bomber Crew but I really enjoyed it. Glen
Think Journey to the savage planet should be on this list, space based exploration, pretty fun gameplay, quirky humor, had fun with it
Adding a few to my wish list from this video. Metroid Dread was my first and only game I had played from the list.
Not normally a genre I like but a couple slightly interesting me here. Mostly I just really enjoy listening to your videos!
I've recently discovered your channel and I love it. My back catalog of Switch games just keeps growing with your videos.
cant believe Rebel Galaxy outlaw has been on the switch for over a year now and hasent seen a single sale
Games I'd add to here (although maybe low hanging fruit) are the entire Doom collection, Duke Nukem 3d, BulletStorm, Borderlands, Bioshock collection, and XCOM.
Hey guys, just want to say we appreciate you. Your reviews are fun, honest and personal, which just makes it the best. Take it easy both.
That photo is bombastic! Good times :)
Outlawed! Had a reference to Astroneer, it's the little guy on the dash!! I highly recommend that Sci-fi (Astroneer)!!
Would Astral Chain qualify here ?
Also, if it's not going to have a sequel, would LOVE to see a next gen upgrade to Alien Isolation. It already looks good I know, but hey why not. Would keep playing it again, and again, &....
I liked voyager too. It was great and you cant forget tuvok .
Quite enjoying the 12 days of Switchmas!
Thanks for this, I have been craving some good sci fi games for some reason lately. Thinking of Rebel Galaxy Outlaw now. And maybe some others. Cheers
There are some cool games on this list I'll have to try out
Love these more casual videos without a certain structure! Enjoyed hearing the back and forth between the two of you and would love more :)
