It seems that by number, geology offers most of the jobs from any batch. However, over several years, the placements were declining at a constant rate (it's course corrected)... IIT ISM DHANBAD has an excellent scope for the campus placements; whereas the scenarios for IIT Bombay, Kgp, and Roorkee are not stable. The alumni networks and the relationships between the institution with the company play an important role. Basically, 20%-30% people are placed every year (overall) in core companies, while many people can get offers from non-core companies too (example - our batch of 2021 at IIT Bombay). It's good, but not necessary, to develop some soft skills for such jobs--but the spread of knowledge over various subjects is always helpful.

One of my senior got placed at Halliburton petroleum company at 12lakhs packs ( MSC Geology from IITR)
and another one at 16lakhs ONGC ( MSc Geology from IIT Kharagpur)
