    So with the recent release of players numbers within certain PVP MMOs it seems the demand for PVP within this genre is much higher than expected. Can Ashes of Creation deliver what this group of players want without alienating the rest of the audience?
    Today we'll be discussing this and much much more.

      The most common reason why we, as Albion players, stay in red zone (Royal Continent) is because of its RvR (aka Faction Warfare) where you aren't alone as your ally faction players is with you as well as you band together as one faction zergs specially during Bandit Assault

  • @ChiefToad
    @ChiefToad Год назад +14

    Albion is a very well put together game. It rewards you for putting in the time, and will punish cavalier credit card warriors severely if they think they can just buy the "best" gear and run into pvp willy nilly. And NO, Albion is not dominated by the mindless Zerg pvp you alluded to in this video. That is actually a pretty small subsection of actual pvp. Most happens in small scale groups of 10 or less, or in the Mists now(1v1v1), and even the more controlled corruption dungeon 1v1s. That being said, I don't even pvp much at all. I prefer to gather, transport and play the market. If you can't get past the isometric perspective thing that's on you, not the game. Albion pretty much offers most, if not all, of what other games you would classify as mmo have. Guilds, group activities, crafting, gear progression, harvesting, dungeoning, exploring, pvp etc. etc.
    I really hope Ashes can find a good balance for gearing, pve and pvp. It's one of the hardest things to do in these types of games.

    • @alyasVictorio
      @alyasVictorio 10 месяцев назад

      Yeah! MMO whalers learned the hard way that their gear worth of million dollars is nothing if they lost it in red/black zone

  • @stefanteal1075
    @stefanteal1075 Год назад +23

    I played Albion for quite awhile and the pvp was fantastic. Caravans carrying supplies and weapons were constantly attacked and defended and the fights over zones and hideouts(guild bases) would draw hundreds of players at a time. You would see tactics and communication between alliances make or break control over zones and their resources. I enjoyed how balanced they kept the abilities.
    You are definitely correct about the gear. You have your pve gear, and then you have your pvp gear. Pve would be your most powerful gear that you don't want lost and your pvp gear would be the gear you expect to lose and can afford to replace. To be honest, I appreciated the loss of gear upon death and the ability to loot good gear off of bodies. I wouldn't mind if intrepid had people lose their gear upon death. Maybe they could have an attainable rune or some protection item/spell to save certain gear upon death so you could respawn with it and not lose top tier equipment.

    A small correction, you CAN drop gear after your corruption reaches a certain level. Part of the risk vs reward system. One of the reasons that i like to compare AoC to EvE is due to Game size vs player amount, both will have lots of area to play so you can choose to be in a populated or unpopulated area, another is due to both games having reasons why you want to attack / defend the area youve invested in. Ashes will be popular since games that have a good reason to fight over something have always been popular.

    I like PVP but I like PVE more.
    But my favorite way to set up a game is to have both and the freedom to choose, like traditional MMORPGs would allow with PVP servers and PVP arenas for PVE servers.
    But it depends on the game. For example my favorite game of all is Star Citizen and there, immersion-based realism just demands the possibility of PVP, and in a free manner similar to real life.

    I love full loot PvP games, but honestly with looter shooter games like tarkov, hunt showdown, Rust and now dark and darker, my itch for punishing PvP is kind of already scratched. Full loot for me would be amazing but at the same time I understand that that sort of MMO isn't sustainable, the majority of players just don't want to loose progress on death to bullshit and I get that... so for me at this point I just want a PvP MMO where theres still risk and rewards associated to killing/dying and for gear not to be the deciding factor in the majority of fights. And if gear is going to be a massive factor then I want risk associated to using that gear in the open world. One thing i cant stand in PvP in MMOs is a player with bad PvP skills winning a fight because he has PVE'd his way to good gear, its just dumb.

    My #1 concern is people keep brushing twards it but never make the connection. You mention the economy, and how pvp is part of that loop risk/reward There is nothing stopping people from camping/farming mats. The ONLY solution is to GAIN corruption, and then be at risk for gear drop. So if some one puts a toon on node's and has a buddy (or alt boxxed) watch/wait. So they kill your miner/farmer they now have corruption because you did not fight back, you come in with your toon to kill them, they drop gear.
    So there is NO solution to node camping EXCEPT pvp, but that balance is flawed because you will put yourself at a disadvantage and lose gear to the node camper's alt. I have asked for ALTERNATE solution to node camping farmers as this is toxic game play. "oh what are you gonna do KILL ME and get corruption?" there is nothing to chancel node camping resources, there has to be some alternative flagging going or some other solution to that dynamic of the economy because other wise you invite one toxic mechanic to anotehr

There's random events that can happen that players might go after. And certain resources are only scarce through different seasons. It can be abundant on a particular season.
      Also the solution to your other concern is to have 2 or 1 gear drop. Since you're not gonna get all your gear once another player gets it. Every one of them disappear instead of maybe 2 or 3. IF your buddy gets it. It doesn't matter. You still have to farm for the other gears again.

This is the issue. Please look into the wiki for details how the gather system works there are super rare resources part of the gathering crafting system and node age is a determining factor factor, so if some one is harvesting nonstop your chances of getting said resource are near nill

The last thing you need is an army of farm bots moving into your node and cutting all the trees down for miles when your node needs them for an up-and-coming war or progression. I would have loved to be able to PK the bots in Lost Ark who would mine 24/7 outside of town destroying the economy. Eve has a robust economy because anyone at any moment can decide to try and take you out regardless of what sec you’re in. High sec has consequences because you must be in and out fast. Being able to PK someone who is griefing your nodes is nice to have. You can also kill some idiot in your raid that start to argue with you.

So if I kill my friend in PvP and I claim the materials for it. I can't get materials from killing him again for another 3 hours. And if I do it then at 3 hours, then I'll have to wait 6 hours for him to drop materials if I kill him, then 12 then 18, etc. I just don't want to see a bunch of bots farming these materials over and over again just killing each other and running back. There should be a safeguard system to prevent this from happening and encourage people to kill many different players.

    I like to call them GvP MMOs. Griffer vs Player. because at the end of the day, that's ALL they are. My experiences with (deep breath) EverQuest, Linage2, DAoC, Earth and Beyond, WoW, Rift, Arch Age, and even single player games with online elements like the new Elden Ring......... Chock full of Griffers who get their jolly's by making damn sure other players suffer through murder after murder and rage quit because they cannot accomplish ANYTHING with their limited play time!

    • @HighmageDerin
      @HighmageDerin Год назад

      @@freedomarts EQ was my first MMO and I dont remember any servers being pvp free. DAoC was ALL PvP all the time. It was difficult to get into an enemy factions zone, True, but it was doable. and most of the ones who did, did it with the sole goal of attacking the starting zones, and they did. reapeatedly murdering all the L 1-10 players with their max level toon untill players of high enough level and skill could come to aid the new players. Lineage2 had players who litterly CAMPED OUTSIDE THE STARTING TOWN AND MURDERED ANYONE WHO DARED TO LEAVE ITS BOARDERS!!! all day EVERY DAY!! i quit Linage2 after one week of trying, just gave up. IF there WERE punishments, the PKers did not care one whit about them! Earth and Beyond atleast was a MUCH more fair system, as you could just Warp away from any combat. It still sucked that the PKers waited at the exit of major warp nodes. but if you were fast enough, you could target the next one and Warp before you were destroyed. so you HAD a way out! and it did not hinder you too much. WoW I started on a PVP server not knowing it was a pvp server, spent over 2 hours trying to get from darkshore to stormwind to join my equily new low level friends. who were also getting ganked entering westfall. We all moved to a non pvp server after 2 weeks of this crap.
      Arch age............ ye gods I though the spawn camping was bad in WoWs pvp , Arch age took Greifing to a whole new level!!! I gave up after a month! Im sure AoC will be no different, Ill give it a try. but if Im constintly hindered by some dick with no life who gets his pleasure by picking on people who have no chance in hell of fighting back. Im sure ill quit that too....

    I have played Albion Online a bit here and there and I too am not a fan of ARPG style games, nor a fan of Mobile games. I have played this on PC and it is a lot easier to do so than on Mobile, but it is still a mobile game, just like Diablo Immortal is (fight me on this nerds.) It could have held me longer if not for 1 fact, you are eventually forced to PvP...constantly. While you are starting off, you are in messing around in zones that are Tier 1, Tier 2, etc. Gathering materials and fighting mobs in these zones are supposed to be a decent-ish challenge for you while wearing gear of the same tier, and that can be done by crafting materials of the relevant tier levels to the tier zone that you are in, sounds pretty standard. The problem starts when you hit mid-tier levels at Tier 4 and Tier 5. This is where you are forced to "level" and gathering in PvP enabled zones. Granted the loot drop on death is extremely minor in these tiers, but you are always forced to expect someone is going to attack you for no reason other than to shove their sword down your throat, no matter if they are far better geared than you or not (much like the old WoW open world PvP in the old PvP servers while you are leveling.) It gets far worse as you progress through to the end game tiered zones where it turns to a full loot PvP experience. Now I'm not against PvP, but when a MMO is nonstop PvP it loses it's fun and becomes more like work than any grindy MMORPG. Much like the failure of Life is Feudal MMO, where they had made the Judgment Hour (where you can declare war on another settlement and be able to break through their walls and destroy their cities and take their loot) an every day thing, instead of once or twice a week. This made the game something you were never allowed to miss a day of play and were forced to PvP with no respite to enjoy the other aspects of the game...ever. The game died after two months because of this, the developers resorted to microtransactions to try to keep themselves afloat, and eventually they shut it down. Albion Online has a good bit of whales still supporting it, which is why they are still running strong, along with their move to add the game to Steam to get new life in the game. I do not see it being around with more than maybe 1,000 daily players in another year.

      @Altmer353 Год назад

      you dont need months. You can easily get your set leveled up up to 65-75 range in a couple of weeks. I would say you can do it even faster if you are with good party in the black zone dungeon. This is enough to pvp with people. In a month or two you can have 2-3 different sets for different occasions. Dont forget, this is a sandbox MMO. It is designed to play for longer than just couple of months. Dont compare its progression to WoW, FF14 or ESO.

That being said, Throne & Liberty or Ashes of Creation are something to look forward to, for the time being Albion is still alright. Assuming you don't try to self-sustain the monthly optional sub through in-game means. Albion's stagflation makes IRL seem tame in comparison

This game has been active reaching up to 30.000 concurrent online players for the past 25 years and its biggest foundation is the PvP Full Loot structure. For sure nowadays it became a P2W sh*tfest, but nonetheless still worth understanding the impact it had in those 2 countries MMO audiences because everyone feels like there was never a game to replace the feeling Tibia creates with their PvP inforcement structures within the game.

    Why are the upsides of pking in this system? I like open world pvp games. Maybe I'm missing something, but if I choose to pk, and my target doesn't fight back and just dies, do they at least drop some resources or something? Why would anyone engage in pvp if there's no risk to reward ratio and just 100% risk?

    • @Synkronist
      @Synkronist Год назад

      That is a very common misunderstanding of the design philosophy of Ashes.
      This game is NOT designed for open world pvp to be a common thing, the flagging system exists simply to give players more freedom to act how they want in certain situations where they feel the repercussions are worth it.
      The freedom enriches the experience while still preventing it from being abused by having strict punishments in place.
      For example, if someone is stealing my farm spot or talking shit to me, I would probably kill them even knowing that it isn't worth it.
      Considering how strict the corruption system is, you shouldn't expect to see corrupted players often at all.
      For the PvP oriented player base there are a variety of PvP modes that are not a part of the flagging system.
      Caravan battles, Guild Wars, Battlegrounds, Arenas for team battles, Dueling, Open Sea Naval Combat, Node Sieges, Node Wars, and Castle Sieges. The Corruption and Bounty Hunter System is a much smaller part of the PvP aspect of Ashes than most realize.

I mean, sure, with all the civil wars going around the globe and hunger in Africa, mere fact of being save and alive is precious, but... seriously?
    1.2) I am bandit. I gank farmers. But those bloody peasants won't fight back so I get corrupted. What's my reward? Resources I can't use or sell or deposit?
    1.3) I'm ruthless barbarian, I love kill and destroy, and I do kill and destroy. I fear no death nor corruption. I am corruption itself. Bane of the libing.............
    ...........
    I got banned for griefing.
    How this is going to work?
    Steven did spent a lot of time explaining and explained nothing.
    This is why I value examples more than skin showcases. I don't care about skins as long as I'm struggling to understand how the basics of this game is going to work.
    PS. I do love open world PvP. The best Fallout 76 had was survival mode, but instead of fixing it they traded it for yet another battle royale. Refreshing (not).
    World of Warcraft early days PvP was cool. Pointless at first glance, frustrating at times, but cool nonetheless. It was setting the mood. It WAS world of WAR craft, not snugging dragons nonbinary crossfaction bs.

    Every time I gank a player in MMO's I'm overwhelmed by an unimaginable sense of euphoria that could not be replicated in the "real" world. The greater the gap in power, the more intense the feeling. I tend to gravitate towards classes with in built stealth (rogues/thieves etc) as these classes allow me to tap into my primal instincts and become the true predator lurking in the shadows, stalking my oblivious prey. When it comes to the act, timing is of the utmost importance. Any schmo can gank on sight... but the true ganker aficionado is patient. I prefer to bide my time. Waiting until the prey has gathered a decent chunk of materials and is returning home or is just about to reach a checkpoint in a quest. Ganking at these critical moments often compels the prey to send me rage fuelled messages which I then screenshot and add to my collection for future printing.

    Top comment on steam:
    Albion used to be a good game. In the past you got a free 3 day premium and used to be able to grind 10 million silver in that time frame to another month. solo dungeons and other content were actually profitable enough to supply your premium and actual enjoyment to the game... at this point don't play it if you are trying to be free to play. it is almost, if not impossible to farm premium with a month of premium. last thing i want to do is spend a whole month grinding just to afford the next months premium status. it isnt worth it. the only other way to play the game is if you are ok with being forced to pay real money to get premium... now i know what you might be thinking.. " i can probably play without premium" i thought that too. it makes the game sooo grind and when i open up chest i never see an item.. i just see runes. and maybe if im lucky an item the gives me 10,000 silver. if it sells. dungeons are long. you can complete 1 about every 20-30 mins with fodder gear (if you dont want to die and lose wayyyyy more than you can possibly gain)
    at this time the devs want you to empty you pockets. so they nerfed the hell out of silver and drops in general. and raised the gold/silver amount to buy premium.. at this point i dont see the old albion that used to be. it's just a money grabbing company now
