The SEIKO Captain Willard SBDC109 / SPB151J1 - so much that I like about this watch but it is not flawless and you should expect to be buying a new bracelet very soon, not the ideal start to ownership but the watch fits like it should and looks straight from the fridge cool!!

Love this watch, especially at a reduced price point but like you say, it would be nice to get those faults fixed. The price of Seiko's went ridiculous with no apparent increase in their quality, obviously thought they were missing out in the resurgence in Mechanical watch sales and subsequent profits. Shame about the non framed date window, unsigned crown and crappy strap though. From a homage point of view, the best and most accurate of them all is the Rdunae R2X. Great attention to detail & only two things it doesn't have, 1 I believe they've now rectified and the second, is the chamfer on the crystal which duplicates the minute track. This watch certainly does have that, love it. Good video.

@@thetimebombardier no problem, glad I found the channel. I've been looking at getting a second one, with the black case but they're not on AliX at the moment & mostly sold out on Rdunae website. Worth keeping an eye out though.

Since you're a fan of the movie, the character, and the watch - you should visit the place where the flick was shot. That would be a complete and real homage. It's now a touristy surfer's haven in the Philippines.

Ok, the Franch plantation scene for me was fine. It helped paint the picture of the madness that was Vietnam....... now I have the SPB237. No QA issues, its immense.... not cheap.... but For me worth it...

The way I see it is that while the original willard was the first seiko diver with a cushion case, this re-interpretation is more in line with the later Seiko cushion case divers with its design. It's just refinement and evolution over the original design.

Interesting review the Seiko's be they original or reissue are too pricey for me, so I scratched the itch with an Addiesdive homage, which for what it cost makes a person feel they've got an incredible bargain.

To be fair the dive extension is absolutely necessary in order to meet the requirements for a certified dive watch. The extension is awful and absolutely naff, but necessary nonetheless.

I was lucky to pick up one of these (black coated edition) for £600 black Friday sale, i must admit it looks better than I thought it would, great watch and im glad didn't have to pay full price. Only complaint the black edition is 'limited edition' of 5,500 pieces which I think you can't really call limited edition at that number lol
cheers Max and welcome to the channel bud, yeah seiko and their cash grab limited editions... they seem to release more limiteds than normals LOL but aside from that this watch is bloomin brilliant and you got it at the ideal price, no way it's worth nearly 1200 notes!!
@@thetimebombardier Yes, I agree with you, I believe £600 - £700 is the right price for this watch, I have the Seiko spr777 turtle (which cost £375) and I do think the Willard is a lot better and worth double price of turtle, but like you said not the staggering 1,200 notes.

@@thetimebombardier No, I only got the Willard (black) and the turtle spr777, my spr777 got condensation on a cold night only a month new and the bezel has terrible play, I was hesitant to buy Seiko again but couldn't resist a Willard, my Willard is really good, no issues, perhaps Japan made is reason?. I was thinking Seiko Arnie but didn't like that the hands to far away from marker, I personally think Seiko is overrated, so I think I'll keep Willard as my last.

I dislike bracelets so I wear mine on an Uncle Straps Chocolate Bar strap plus the CB strap makes it look period correct. These iterations of the Willard wear great IMO because they are 2mm smaller than the original or the current Chinese copies. My 6R35 runs +6 consistently.
Cheers Pat 😎👍 gnomon picked me out a good one as accuracy on mine is solid but I am struggling with straps as the lug holes are quite low so leave a huge gap, maybe time to upgrade to an uncle ☺️
@@thetimebombardier Uncle Straps are set up for fat bar spring bars so the strap is thicker at the spring bars than a run of the mill strap. There is still a gap but it's smaller.

I own the SRPE93 Turtle, and though it comes with only Hardlex crystal and 4R36 movement, I like its more symmetrical case over the Willard. And no, I can't justify the price difference either (I'm sorry, but the sapphire and the 6R35 doesn't make the Willard $800 more than the Turtle...it just doesn't). What you're paying for is the association with Martin Sheen and Apocalypse Now.

Could you on your next review not wear long sleeve shirts and it’s OK to leave the watch on for another 60 seconds and turn your wrist so we can see multiple shots. I really thought the wrist shot you did with the watch was way too short. But thank you anyway for the review

@@thetimebombardier Shit happens... again. Had two links in it, YT must have taken it down. Anyways, as I said in there, 3rd strap (silicone or FKM?) is best imo. But try a perlon, suits the era/theme of this watch, plus can be sized as needed, so this melted hockey puck won't roll around your wrist!😋
