Just did this today, worked perfect. Was super easy. Cost me nothing. Now I have like new tach. Seriously, what excellent content and massive contribution to the community. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos!
The plate screws fell out of mine and were rattling around under the glass. This video showed how to remove the bezel to get it apart. All better now thanks!!!!
Thanks! Engine backfire, not sure how to fix it as I have not experienced it. If I had to take a guess, may be your motorcycle is ejecting unburnt fuel into the exhaust pipes which is igniting. Try to understand why your mixture is not getting ignited inside the cylinder. Could be bad spark plugs or improper air:fuel mixture.
Thanks for making this video! You went a couple steps further than I did with the disassembly. I was also using the drill to test mine and thought I had it working a lot better, so I put it back together. Once it was on the bike it is still slow! Did you put yours back on and try it yet?
Yes, before I took the tach apart I had pulled the cable out of the housing, wiped off the old grease and sprayed it with new lube. Really wish I knew what I was shifting at! I usually shift shortly after I get into the real power, so I'm probably missing out on some of the best fun at the top.
Wish I had an answer for you. I will put my tachometer back on my bike and will update you as to what happened. Try posting your question in a forum, someone might be able to answer.
I have a 1979 RD 400 Daytona special it has a plastic housing on the tachometer Have you repaired one of these tachometer’s if so would you be interested enjoying one for me can you email me your response

I have not put it back on my bike. It’s strange yours slowed down again, have you checked your engine tachometer drive and cable?

Did you get to test out the tach yet?
Not yet
Mine just pegs at idle….gotta figure it out.
Can I ask what liquid you used to degrease and clean the insides with?
I used brake cleaner. Use something that quickly evaporates. Don’t use stuff like WD40 which can leave behind an oil residue
@@seventiesmetal8673 ok thanks!
