I literally did this yesterday. I finally grew some balls and booted up fightcade to fight against a person for the first time ever. Said I was a noob and some dude played me as twelve. Was having trouble until I started jumping at him. he must not have any great way to anti-air because I started hitting him every time like clockwork. Then when he switched to akuma to push my shit in, I went super aggro which he wasn't expecting since I played passively the entire time beforehand, and managed to kill him once before getting perfected.
      Fighting games are sick lol

It's weird how those small victories in f8ghting games appeal to only a certain type of person. I feel godlike whenever I adapt and punish the hell out of my opponent. That feeling never gets old. I think the major issue why people tend to not get into fighting games, is because they can't handle accepting they are going to be bad at something before they can be good at it. Its like learning an instrument.

This advice is applicable to real life a lot too. You can use perspective to frame problems you need to deal with and make adjustments. No need to compare your problems to others or have your problems be blown out of proportion.
Also, hell yeah pop off for yourself.

Time is another one, people often forget that your brain can solve things, really complicated things, even if you don't conciously solve it yourself in the moment. Sometimes it's better to move on for a little while, maybe an entire day, or multiple days. Doesn't matter how long, you can just come back to it, that's the very cool part about the human brain and it's aptitude for learning. Knowing when to put a problem on the shelf is just as important to learning (and discipline) as it is to force yourself to go through something difficult.

that kage clip is wonderful and seeing a bronzie thinking out loud, making logical connections, and eventually getting it is a serious vicarious dopamine injection
devs seem to be interested in using AI in FG's in the near-future and i say use it to help players do stuff like this. someone even newer than this guy might not make the connection or even know they can do this at all, so a post-game screen that shows clips of getting jumped in on followed by a clip of a their character doing a DP to stuff it would go a long way for bronze and rookie players to make this connection sooner. if the game was smart enough to show them this (and maybe even set up a quick training mode drill they can join of a character jumping in on them with anti-air choices already on screen) then i think it would help motivate people to take the next step more often

This is the dumbest story but I love telling it because it's one of the happiest gaming moments I've ever had, and that is not because I was high when it happened. My bro and I were completely off our faces and playing Pro Evolution Soccer (you might know it as Winning 11). I'm getting stomped like it's nobody's business. He's just scoring goals on me and I haven't been able to get the ball anywhere near his defense line. It's like 12-0 and we're close to the end of the game when something possesses me in a single, minuscule moment of clarity. I steal the ball as he was trying to score one more goal just to rub it in my face, I run with a single player, dodge literally every tackle in sight, make it to the goalie, dodge him and then just run the ball all the way into my brother's goal. I popped off so hard, no fucks given the score was 12-1.

My first online session for a fighting game was playing Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. I remember playing some matches against Balrog, and the player would keep getting me in his headbutt throws. The matches were pretty one-sided in my opponent's favor. I came to the realization that "Balrog can't throw me if he can't get close to me." I was being too aggressive, and needed to be a little more defensive while keeping Balrog away. Making that small adjustment made a huge difference, and suddenly things weren't so one-sided. I think I learned more in that one session than I did in all the years of playing fighting games up to that point.

Nothing has been quite so satisfying to me as pressuring a Jin in Blazblue to the point where at the end of the set with no mater to rapid I baited him into a DP for the finish.

I used to hate when Victor did his big EXPLOSION move, but now I know the punish. Same with his 222, now I know the punish. When I play a Victor I'm just ITCHING for them to throw out something I can punish and it feels awesome to even be cognizant of those potential situations
Potemkin has a flick move that can reflect projectiles and I absolutely hated it and it ruined my whole day... until I realised that I can stun dipper *under* the reflected projectile for a free counter hit
Fighting a jumping bean in Bronze that won't stay on the ground? dp them, air throw them
Even if you're just unreasonably pissed off about a move or couple of moves ask yourself "why?"

Reminded me of the Aris vs Paul player teaching him about WS punishes by doing lows over and over.
Also, FG players need to realise that adapting and these "high level concepts" are what they've been doing in basically every other video game genre: [SoulsBorne/DMC/GoW/whatever hard enemy or boss ? Oh I keep dying to that attack. Let me try doing this. Maybe I should use this move or power. Oh wow that worked. Oh I finally beat them, that was so sick this feeling is great, this is why hard games are rewarding.] But suddenly in FGs : [This is bullshit. That move is dumb/cheating/braindead. I hate this. Oh I finally beat them ? This sucked. This game is trash. That player was a noob/scrub/moron. I'll complain about this and feel awful.]

After anti air DP'ing the brand new guy's jump ins he said "man it sucks that move just beats me for jumping" and my other friend says "the thing about it is that he's intentionally trying to teach you to not just jump at him because that's called an anti air which means you should stop doing that because it's that move's job to beat it. When I used to go to anime tournaments with a friend I never really played the games all that much so I never had enough experience matchup-wise to be able to really rely on that so I developed a decently patient and reactive playstyle that I still use even in games I'm familiar with like PM. I've been working on trying to not be so hard on myself and learning a bunch of games actually helped me get over that cause there was a point where I was playing like 6 different games like PM, Gear, BBCF, P4AU, MVC2, 3S, probably some other random things too so I was able to give myself enough credit for playing decently in even just one of those games: using the correct anti-air button for example since even among anime games there's 6p, 2B, 3C, cr.mp/mk/etc., DP with motions, DP with 2 buttons, and so on so being able to get to a point where after a game or two you can just switch between games is something I take a lot of pride in

I think it was Brian_F that said to get out of bronze you should just learn to anti-air. Worked out for me.

Just recently I got beat by a Paul 3 or 4 times, after that I finished my download and 3-0'd the next 2 matches.

I had a similar situation against a Laura who kept tagging me with her overhead kick at the end of block strings. It felt so good when I figured it out and was able to react to it and get a free full combo every time I blocked it.
Edit: I just remembered that I covered that match in a video if anyone's interested. ruclips.net/video/0UsOUxBYg3A/видео.html

Is there a such thing as subconscious/autopilot adaptation?
When i play KOF sometimes i encounter someone who i had trouble and lost the first match, i am not consciously sure of what adjustments to make, in fact i didn't have any ideas, but then i end up steamrolling this guys team for 6 matches straight with 1 or 2 characters after that, like it suddenly feels easier, but i didn't feel like i had to stop to think or something because i didn't know exactly what to do to begin with, does anybody know why this is and have you ever experienced the same thing?
