Heya! Saw you guys at Addington Coffee Co-op yesterday, didn't want to interrupt your editing flow though! Hope you enjoy(ed) chch and the rest of the beautiful South Island!
I think I’ll plan a trip south when those ships come into service. Although I haven’t been on one of the current ones. I still have a memory of the Wellington to Littleton ferry…I was 4!! That was a sensible option that could be brought back.
Not necessarily particularly for kaitaki they sort the cars by size. Small cars even if they arrive first often end up on the mezzanine deck so are first on last off. Regardless of when they check in
Oh you two make me want to pop over to the South Island by ferry again. I love that trip. Glad there was room to snooze…the ferry can be so crowded that floor space is the best snooze option! All of the South Island is gorgeous…the West Coast is something else! Sweet!
Thankyou for this awesome video.Bringing back memorable moments I spent on cruise ships from Wellington to Picton then by road all the way to the vineyard's at Seddon valley. Beautiful place NZ. Hope to visit again soon❤
@@florence2720to be fair she is probably Germanic of some persuasion? And the correct pronounciation is Highm. Heim being a home. The battle of Blenheim was fought in Germany and involved the Duke of Marlborough (Churchill)
If you get on later, you miss out on decent seats. While you are in your queue, the ship is being cleaned, food bought on and trucks loaded. They aren't just enjoying watching you sitting waiting.
Marlborough's one of my homes away from home and the resting place of my mother and grandfather. I always seem to reclaim some creative energy every time I visit.
I leave my car unlocked on the ferry , as the motion of the boat makes the car alarm go off. The hi viz guy told me it is a good idea, as they don't let anyone down there , except staff.
As a kiwi i can say that the south island is fantastic. I would also suggest checking out some of the smaller towns as well rather than just going to queenstown you will be surprised by the history in some of the smaller towns such as Timaru and alexandra. Also if your getting a ferry i would suggest booking a cabin and taking a laptop with you. As it means you get a bed and your own bathroom with a shower and toilet
@@GlenAndMado it’s nice in terms of facilities, but can get crowded in terms of space on there as it can carry 1350 passengers, It’s also getting a bit dated. Though I suppose it would be hard to notice as a passenger. 😁
Been enjoying our videos, the Interislander ferry you passed the Kaiarahi, was the one I went on in 2020 going to Picton! Will be going back to NZ in October for 2 months, can't wait!
for Christchurch I have to recommend gondola, sumner beach, taylors mistake, lyttelton, hanmer springs, willowbank wildlife, sign of the kiwi, victoria park :)
Rows 1 n 2 are for nautical miles members for priority loading and priority disembarking. Only a 3hr 20min journey it's the smallest ferry your lucky it wasn't a rough xing it's 7pm In picton so most places are closed. Enjoy your stay in the the sth island and enjoy our country 😊
Lovely to see you guys having fun :-) In the video description text you describe the two islands of New Zealand as "massive". As an Aussie I'm not certain I completely agree--because they are basically two quite unstable volcanic outcrops, sprouting from the floor of the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean. They inhabit the 'Pacific Ring of Fire' and experience numerous small earthquakes every day. However, I certainly agree that New Zealand IS massive compared to other volcanic Pacific islands like: Samoa, New Hebrides, Solomons, Fiji, Tonga, Hawaii and numerous others.
ive done this trip twice, 3 times by ferry and once by air. I tell you one thing, they dont call wellington windy wellington for nothing! when i got off the plane from nelson by bicycle, i couldnt pedal for at least 1/2 hour due to the wind!!!
Biggest ferry I'VE ever seen, but I've only seen a few up close and only been on one. Looks like quite the experience! What was the total time it took to get from Port A to Port B?
You missed the Irish Pub in Picton. It is 1 road over from the main st that you drove down. Its a good one too and more like an English pub with a couple of rooms. It won best Irish Pub in the Southern Hemisphere.
I could see Glen has alot of confidence on his driving for a Learners. Alot of L Platers would have too much of the jitters, even if they were driving locally. Nice.
Got the restricted here in New zealand now so very happy! :) going to go for the full in March as its alot easier to obtain a licence here in New Zealand compared to Ireland!
oh yeah, we heard quite a lot of different stories about the ferry trip. Luckily everything went smoothly and glad you didn't need the life jacket in the end
The problem with leaving in the afternoon, the lo g wait. l always take the early morning ferry, less waiting time. However l appreciate that due to your cancelation, you had no choice, so be grateful you got on at all.
Guys a pity that you were given grey weather and low cloud on the ferry ride to Picton. Wonderful to see your excitement to finally make the South Island. The best and most diverse scenery in NZ awaits you and the best part is only 1 in 5 of the population live in the South Island (many more live in Auckland than the whole of the South Island). Glen will love the driving where sometimes you are the only car on the road etc. The weather is changeable and you will notice between yesterday and today with the temp change!

Hello, glad you took the Interislander to Picton and a shame the weather prevented you from seeing the Marlborough Sounds properly which are drowned river valleys running north to south and through which you would have passed to get to Picton. I hope you took the east coast road trp to Christchurch because the Kaikoura Mountains coast road is spectacular. But then so is the rest of the South Island where you are spoiled for choice in spectacular scenery.
Yeah was a cool experience! Yup we took that route and seen the beauty of the coast but unfortunately there was a lot of clouds covering the mountain too 😂
We have been fortunate to have been able to film the Interisland Ferry showing different aspects of the operation a few years ago, and if you are interested in seeing what goes on behind the public's view, this film will go some way to showing you ruclips.net/video/F3ggNxRcvm0/видео.html.
I have never heard the pronunciation of "Porirua" butchered so much! The Inter-Island ferry trip is fun. You seemed to have a smooth trip, the crew didn't tie the vehicles down. Cook Strait can be very rough. You should have filmed the entry into the narrow Tory Channel before getting into the big, long Queen Charlotte Sound. This is a very pretty trip on a nice day. the South Island is more scenic than the North.
Why it takes so long to get on the ferry is because they have to check each car for bombs and people smugglers. Which is a major problem on the inter-island ferries.
Found this out the hard way. Arrive in two weeks. Basically whole trip is wrecked. It's extremely shocking as where I live in Canada you can just show up or book a reso but only need to a few days in advance not months. I don't understand how a main road can not have access for weeks/months 😭
Hahaha, kia ora guys that ferry ride is all part of the nz experience, and yes it is like going to a different country even my cousins ( maori ) are different down there its like they roll their r, s when talking...hehe sori about the rain down there but it will get better trust me...cool video guys take care much love from auckland❤ps sadly many years ago a sad time for nzs occurred when a ferry called the wahine hit rocks coming into welly Harbour😔

Thank you for another enjoyable video. Good luck for the rest of your trip.
Thanks so much for watching🤗
The south island's the best part of NZ. Make sure you check out the Fiordland!
I think east.
It is gorgeous but a bit of a hike to get to.
No its not The Whole Countries Beautiful if you know where to go.
If you liked those ferries, Interislander is actually replacing its older ones in two years time with much bigger and more luxurious, brand new ones.
Wooow someone call

Most people don't listen. Car alarms are a pain for the off duty crew on kaitaki as the crew accomodation is along the side of the vehicle deck

I used to work on the Interislander! I've been a crew on all three ferries and my favourite was the Aratere. It's much better than Kaiarahi!
