- WvW staff weaver roaming footage in Gunnar's Hold (EU) server.
Here we go! PoF is here, and so is the weaver. Naturally, I had to spent the first couple weeks trying to learn how the staff works on it - and here is a taste of the results.
All in all, there's surely room for improvement both in the specialization and my own gameplay, but so far I've had tons of fun with it. So let's see if I try another weapon next or continue with staff. Suggestions are welcome. :)

Couple words about the intro before people come raging in. I have so far only played staff, and only in WvW. Hence my current opinion is solely based on the positive and refreshing experience I had playing with it. So don't take the opening too hard if you have had a bad experience with another weapon selection. :)
What do you think, is the weaver specialization really so bad? Or just requires some skill and practice to get most out of it?
oh wow, you're one of the first ppl who uses Unravel to such efficiency. subbed
Thanks! I'm kinda surprised so few people actually use it, adds so much more survivability and burst potential on the squishier builds. :)
And then that fateful day, a king of Ele was born.
im pleasantly surprised!
havnt wreaped my mind around staff yet. tried once in beta, died instant threw away ;o)
i dont like to be forced to run around with one utility giving me access to critical abilities that should be at hand or in competition with new once being similar and an elite that reduces my cd but does nothing else except very very barely.
but
i rly liked to see ur experience with it!
It has a very different feeling to it, the tempo is slower than regular elementalist and that takes some time to get used to. I was really really bad for first few hours.
To some extent I agree with 'Unravel' being kinda forced on you. Thought with stability on stances it kinda serves as that too. Although... I would love to have my good old 'Technobabble' added to the already impressive burst haha.
Nice #RespectTheStaff
I play Fresh air weaver with scepter/focus but I also play a more tanky build that Cellofrag here on youtube has came up with using sword/dagger. Weaver IS viable in PvP and WvW both. The REASON people complain saying they cant do any damage or they die too easy clearly is doing it all wrong. Yes, sword is melee range and elementalists usually are squishy but the attacks it offers, plus your utilities offers allot of mobility allowing you to survive. Sword does offer an amazing amount of damage as well, elementalists are just more into the range attacks instead of melee. Practice makes perfect, you can't expect to throw on an elite and instantly be good. People just give up way too easy or use the wrong gears/builds. Check out a guy here on youtube, his channel is: Cellofrag
He offers a build that he uses (not his one shot build) but he has won a 4v1, 3v1, many outnumbered fights showing the true power that weaver has to offer.
I am actually close to finishing a video showcasing sword/focus weaver with very very nice damage output and still a decent survivability even with my ping. So yes, sword is very much a viable weapon especially after the 50% buff on Flame Uprising. Just takes practice, as elementalist always should.
I've seen Cellofrags videos, and though I enjoy the one shot stuff for laughs, I find the tanky stuff very boring to watch not to mention to play myself. Same as with bunker d/d - yes it is very viable - even strong, but does not suit my sense of fun. I rather play a somewhat squishy build to get those juicy crits even if it means I die more. :)
How do you feel compare to staff core elementalist?
I love to play staff weaver but #3 always be blocked/reflected.
Still trying to get used to it, sometimes change back to core ele feels like "wow! my restriction is removed!"
Very good video by the way, I've been waiting for your weaver video since vol.3, keep going!
My initial feeling was really mixed. I felt clunky, ending up with wrong skills a lot, and not doing much damage. But at the same time I saw the potential for the high spike damage, something that core staff is not very good at unless you manage to time a lot of things together. You can see that on my core staff videos where I use FGS a lot to get damage, that is no more needed for weaver.
So thrilled by the damage potential I kept playing, and updated the build bit by bit. Daredevil runes to get crits for my spike skills, 'Unravel' to have access to key skills, and last but not least changing from the 7% damage multiplier on swiftness to stability on stances. And even after that, it took hours to really get used to the best rotations.
For the 'Piledriver' #3, I can't really advice other than to try to combine it with your CC skills, and follow what the opponent is doing. Or use the teleport for surprise element, by coming into range or around corners. And with group fights look for squishy periphery players, instead of shooting at main group where the most reflects and blocks are.
Have fun with the staff weaver, it's really worth the pain when you become comfortable with it. Good luck!
Tried every weapon combo and so far i can say staff is most satisfying. I am running arcana (arcane utilities + asura daze for laughs), air and weaver. Damage is super nice, but i have to sacrifice so much for it, while spellbreaker can just faceroll over everyone using berserker/marauder gear while still being a tanky spec XD. I currently made a new ele build with sword/dagger using a certain armor mix. Best ele build i have seen on paper, but the execution of it just sucks. even with 16-17k hp, 2.8 toughness, 40% crit chance w/o fury, 240% crit damage and 2650 power. I die like a fly and can barely burst anything down. Something just feels off with weaver.
I am so done with the water line also, sick of using the same cantrips after 4 years. The new utilities are not all that great either.
I hope the next balance patch will make ele a bit more ...fluid? Or just nerf the fuck out of spellbreakers and scourges XD.
Apart from my rant, i would love to see more eles like you or me in wvw, staff is definitely fun to use, and also requires a certain lvl of skills. Can't faceroll on it
Keep up the good work!
Ps, if you wanna know the build I made, just whisper me, I hope you can use it better than i can :)
Nice to hear from your experience! The full dps builds are really fun too, though with the amount of ganking and conditions I just can't stand playing with them for more than short tints.
Looking forward to seeing what the balance patch brings, would love to give a new chance to sword or playing something else than water trait line with weaver.
I use sword/dagger myself as a weaver and sometimes switch it up with fresh air weaver using scepter/focus.. I personally have found sword/dagger combo allows me to fight in outnumbered matches, winning in 2v1's but also has allowed me to tank spell breakers along with killing them. I personally have to say Weaver has brought a new side to elementalist fighting and definitely in a positive way. People are way to use to fighting at range because they're more squishy, and sword only offers around 150 range so you have to be face to face, but the skills and utilities give you the advantages of tanking. I run arcane/water as my specializations also by the way. I have 2300 power and 2700 armor, but even with 2300 power I seem to pump out great damage and can kill enemies without too much of an issue. You just have to evade at the right moments and use the new stun break utility (forgot the name of it) to help also. Idk, there's my rant haha but I personally love it. Check out a guy on youtube named: Cellofrag
He's an amazing ele who uses sword/dagger and shows the true potential weaver brings. Winning in a 4v1, 3v1, 2 spell breakers. Hes great
I am actually close to finishing a new video showcasing a sword/focus weaver with some very impressive damage with decent survivability. In the end using sword is not much different from staff weaver in the way that it takes a lot of practice but has some very nice potential when done right.
I've checked Cellofrag's videos but personally find the tanky stuff boring. It is effective for sure, but I rather play a more squishy build with more challenge and nicer burst potential. Everyone has fun in their own way. ;)
I apologize for the negative vibe ill probably give off here. For someone that mained elementalist for the first 3 and a half years of this game, I currently...hate? the weaver. Ive played around with all of the weapon sets except for staff and all of them felt very very weak. the auto attack damage is awful, the condition clears are non existent, water almost seems like a must so here we have another predicament like eles being too reliant on always running arcane. and attunement swapping feels like 5 years between. Playing pvp almost non stop over the last few days has been extremely frustrating because im just getting my face kicked in by everyone.
. Ele was already a class one couldnt just pick up and play well so weaver presents a situation where I feel like I have to re learn it, and im ok with that but we are still 100 miles behind everyone else as far as damage out put is concerned. Going over the skills in the weaver line almost seems like arena net is trying to push the elementalist into just another condition spamming class and I will always refuse to play that way. I had really good points that I wanted to write here but i forgot.
Nothing to apologize there. In last couple days I have played a bit of sword/dagger and quickly tried dagger/dagger and honestly I don't know if I should laugh or cry. I'm also against condi builds till the bitter end, so although I can see that some viper d/d or sw/d might be somewhat viable and fun to play, I am not going to go there.
Staff weaver is clearly the winner in terms of power builds until something drastic happens to the sword damage or they implement a way to get more offense via traits while stile maintaining survivability.
Personally I've had 0 problems with damage output and tanking. I run a build in wvw with about 2300 power and 2700 armor, the damage could be better yes but having the heal power helps maintain tanking in fights even against spell breakers. I see your comment was a month ago so hopefully you've came to find out how strong weaver really is and what is has to offer. Check out a guy on RUclips named Cellofrag he's absolutely beast. He's won in a 4v1, has killed 2 spell breakers in the same fight, he shows the true power weaver has to offer. Bottom line is, using the elite RIGHT offers allot. I only use sword/dagger combo and sometimes I'll use fresh air weaver scepter/focus. I do main ele also. Sword/dagger is preferred as a weaver if you are looking to be able to pump in the damage, sustain damage and have the mobility. I see no issue in weaver as it is now, but I guess everyone has their opinions. Not everyone is cut out for certain builds.
