lyriclover810 yes!! I was just thinking man his music has had such a profound impact on my soul... I've never been the same since I discovered a year ago today!!!
I want him to be heard but I fell like huge venues somewhat water down music. I love the intimate shows ... well, I did love them back before our new reality we now find ourselves in. Saw them play Red Rocks right before the release of Evening Machines, it was meant for this kind of music. :)
Naykat but I'd never say I'd love you dear, just to hear you say it back. Some of the most beautifully and most poetically written, every line is gold, by an amazing and humble dude, never gets old!
He’s a national treasure...the best folk singer today and imagine watching him live...here I am in Australia it’s raining and I’m listening to this...awesome
As someone who has seen him live and has heard this song live: this song becomes so intimate because all of his band members leave the stage and it’s just him and his guitar on stage with this song. It’s so personal
I came back to this particular version of this song also on this rainy night when it’s all quiet outside just the sound of the rain blanketing this darkest hour of the night. This version feels like a night rain itself
"It seems that he is engrossed in praying, not in singing." Saw that comment on this song in another video. The most accurate thing ever. He is different.
@@vivlee3840 Check out Gems on VHS as well their channel is amazing and swayed my opinon on folk. Dallas won songwriter of the year a few years back I think.
It doesn't matter if it's average, whole melody is just in place. Too "strong" music and too "strong" words are not going together, I think it's not receptive. :)
Saw you in Portland Maine this summer, I just cannot believe the quality of writing and musicianship. Gregory is a master of capturing words, sayings, sentences spewed from others as a fleeting comment. He writes with such emotion and relevance. I would love to sit for a day with this old soul.
So I created my channel, just to comment on this video. That is saying a lot for me. I want to know forever where Gregory Alan Isakov is playing his wonderful, emotional, inspiring music. I would love to listen in person, and maybe one day learn to make melody with my poetry as he does.
An absolute treat for the ears, the heart and the soul. One of the most hauntingly beautiful songs with lashing of lyrical genius and a level of honesty that makes for a truly rare experience. Thank you Gregory for sharing your truth, your gift and your creative wonders with the world.
I heard him play this live in a small concert in Boulder and I balled my eyes out. And now whenever I hear it, live or on RUclips, the same thing happens. And I wouldn't want it any other way.
[Verse 1] Dreaming up this golden grain But I'm falling from this shack Talking sweet to the queen Wishing I was riding with the jacks Walking proud and lonesome now Oh I'm yearning for the pack But I'd never say "I love you," dear Just to hear you say it back [Verse 2] I've heard the road to every truth It's just a cul-de-sac There's ladies and the lions there But you know it's just an act You search the world for the milk of the pearl She always takes it black But you'll love her till it all goes dark You'll love her even after that
This song is the definition of calming. I sometimes listen to this when I struggle to fall asleep. It just seeps right into the bone marrow and knocks me out ❤
I found Gregory through Andrew of Mandolin Orange. He introduced me through their cover of Amsterdam. Now I can't stop listening. Truly fine songwriting.

Gregory is this generation's Townes Van Zandt. He just has a way with words that keeps you captivated and thinking. I could spend a whole day just looking up at my ceiling while his records play through. Amazing. I have a few covers of his songs and I play in his realm (genre wise) so check me out if you like! Cheers! JDT
How do you pick or strum like this? I’ve been trying to mimick the way hes plucking at the guitar but I can’t get it to sound like that?? How do you pick like that and whats the technique?? Its so smooth and heartfelt
Triplets! With pinky! I love playing fingerstyle it’s all I do and I can tell you this is a ridiculously hard technique to play.. haven’t tried in a year or so so I might just try it again today
I love this album~ Love this music~ My favorite musician~ So full of Beauty~ You can hear the nature of being human and the nature of the fields, trees, skies, stars, clouds, and every green and blueish thing growing in his lamentations~
I'm so happy to live in a world where he exists... His music is woven into my soul.
lyriclover810 yes!! I was just thinking man his music has had such a profound impact on my soul... I've never been the same since I discovered a year ago today!!!
I'm so glad other people have such a deep connection with his music. He makes life better especially when it's not so good
+Maxwell Jose Couldn't agree more. He is really aiding some serious self-loathing and loneliness in my life atm.
He really does touch that nerve..sublime. .
So true ❤
He deserves more attention but I'm glad we get to see him in tiny theatres, amazing artist

I want to see him singing in some river while we hear his voice, guitar and the water splashing as we circle around him and close our eyes.
but you’ll love her till it all goes dark
you’ll love her even after that . . .
Hauntingly beutiful lyrics
one of the best lines, in my opinion, of any song.
Naykat but I'd never say I'd love you dear, just to hear you say it back. Some of the most beautifully and most poetically written, every line is gold, by an amazing and humble dude, never gets old!
I have this tattooed on my foot in Thai. My wedding vows. No matter what happens. That will always be true.
I'd never say "i love you", dear, just to hear you say it back.
One of the most important things I have ever learned when it came to relationships. Thanks Gregory Alan Isakov

Seeing this live is an out of this world experience
It truly is.
One of my favorite memories is seeing him in concert at a small outside venue on a warm summer night.
He's hypnotic 🌻
His music always calms me down. I listen to so many artist in different genres, but this guy is hands down my favorite.
+jr4chargers You should try Will Cookson- Under the Yew :)
And both of you should check out Dallas Green from city and colour (Sorrowing man is great)
@@acrylup I just went there.. 4 yrs after you wrote this! Another soulful poetic musician.... Love the lyrics.
@@ViralClipsThatDontSuck I'm there now.. A wonderful discovery, how did I not know of him before?!

It’s enough to make a grown man cry. But seriously It gets me every time
I love your heart.
Me too, my friend.
This man is a genius when it comes to lyrics.
And when it comes to guitar? ;)
Lakovic Nikola His guitar skills are average, nice variety of chords but average picking patterns.
It doesn't matter if it's average, whole melody is just in place. Too "strong" music and too "strong" words are not going together, I think it's not receptive. :)
Doroteo Garza what kind of picking pattern is in this song?
Nick Fernandez I'm pretty sure it's the same used in dust in the wind.
His music pulls on every fiber of my body.

Love the moody beauty of his music. And the eerie quality. Very distinctive and awesome.

Anyone knows what type of Gibson acoustic is Alan Isakov playing??

C, G Am.. same as every other song he sings..lol
Wait I need tabliture on this
I don't want to sound like a diva, but isn't this song actually titled "She Always Takes It Black"?
good spot!
Thank you. Big fan of the channel too, by the way. Some really lovely videos.

I know a lot of girls that take it black, some have never came back.
