I have spent HOURS watching this video!!!! First I tried to go to ALL the websites, but I went down the rabbit hole EVERY TIME!!!! I finally gave up at Deer Creek and grabbed a notebook (this will take DAYS 😁🎉)!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
Pam here….Huckleberries from NW…big in IDAHO. Love them! Sister lived in Preist River Idaho and when they are in season, there is local burger and ice cream place that has Huckleberry Shakes…OMG. Had one EVERY DAY when I was there that summer!!
Botanical Interests' packet art is a very big deal. They go to great lengths to make sure it's accurately depicting the plants. And also, yes, Berlin seeds has to be ordered by phone, email, or fax.
Also, you aren't going to accidentally buy GMO seeds, they usually just say that so they don't have to answer questions. If you're buying GMO you have to sign contracts and are buying in bulk. It's for big farmers. They cost too much to sell in tiny packets to consumers and they don't want them handed out to everyone.
Actually, about a month ago, it was announced government approval for the first GMO seed to be sold directly to consumers via retail markets. I believe it's a purple tomato variety. I caught the info on the end of a radio news broadcast, so I don't know more. I wonder if the seed packets will be labeled bioenginered?
Jung’s is Sun Prairie WI I believe? When I first gardened in the 90s I started with them, and when I lived in Madison there were small retail stores to go to.
Mary's heirloom seeds is awesome!! She has seed giveaways every month, and has a very Informative newsletter, blog, and RUclips channel. She gives you lots of info on what you're buying! She has around 850 varieties and you get free shipping over $20. All her seeds have germinated wonderfully for me!
Do you often mix vegetables in big pots or soil or just one variety at a time.? My home lawn is small so i sowed mix vegetable seeds along with watermelon.? Is this a common practice or not.?
Ison's is pronounced Eeson's. They're super local to me and have a ton of varieties meant for the southeastern climate. I hadn't heard of most of these, and there's several I now want to check out.
Two bigger seed companies in CANADA are Veseys and West Coast Seeds. There are many smaller places as well and a lot of towns have small seed/greenhouses.
I appreciate you going through all of these suggestions and sharing it with us, I for sure have some new seed companies I will be buying from now. Thanks so much! Great video
If you've seen Epic Gardening, Kevin bought Botanical Interests a year or so ago. They use local artists for the artwork on their seed packs. They actually have an archive where they keep the artwork. I have had pretty good germination rates with them.
Thanks for this video new here you brought up some green companies I have used and a few that sparked my interest. Awesome video Starks brothers for trees and Brecks for dahlias tubers. Both have great products and sales.
Sand Hill Preservation Center has an amazing selection of tomatoes and bug tolerant winter squash, and some of the best for homestead settings rare chicken breeds like Icelandics, Kraienkoppe, Cubalaya, Catalana, Swedish Flower, and for cold settings several rare colors of Chantecler, Brahama, and Americana and Buckeye.
Burpee seed packages for the 2024 growing season are available now (1/24/2024) at Target Inc in the USA. Before they sell out, I bought all of my seeds today for carrots, corn, onions, & tomatoes & also bought mushroom growing kits by BackToRoots Inc.
I have seeds from Pawpaw harvested here in south central WI and the Jerusalem artichokes (roots), too... if you want them and are passing by come spring.
I only buy from MIgardener now. I love that he's guaranteed his seed prices will stay at $2.00 through this year at least. And free shipping with 10 packs or more and who doesn't order 10 or more at a time??? Plus he's also got that INCREDIBLE brick and mortar store. And I love his YT channel.
I'd wager bird seed would be a great source. I tossed some chicken scratch into a garden bed so they'd till and poop the bed, and the germination rate on those seeds was pretty solid. Seemed like anything they didn't devour sprouted.
Yeah the only chicken person I love thank you 🙏 ( who is awesome and doesn’t just make videos to get views thank you I love watching your videos. We all love you all my chicks too)🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣🌱🥑🌺🌱🙏🥑💙🥑angel
Two other seed companies: Shumway and Seedman (not to be confused with Seedsman which only sells marijuana seeds). Shumway has the same address as Jung's, so is probably owned by Jung's. Also Sandhills Preservation
If you are around Blue Ridge Mountain area Sow True Seed out of Asheville NC is a great seed company. All female ran company which is awesome. They have a great mushroom line as well and great heirloom variety. I highly recommend.
This is everything I wanted in a video, I followed along and went to all the websites. Ugh, if only I had unlimited money and seeds lasted forever/didn't loose germ rate over the years. I'd buy them all! lol
Almost Forgot!!!! A wonderful WEED for bees if you want DELICIOUS HONEY is thistle!!! As a honey-snob, it is my FAVORITE!!! If I wasn't too chicken to have bees, it would be the only flower in my yard, just to make sure the honey was pure (no matter what neighbors complained about the seeds floating into their yards)❤.
This was awesome to watch. Really interesting! I probably get about ten catalogs every year. Johnny's has always been my go-to for most of my orders. I've always used Totally Tomatoes for my tomatoes and peppers. I only use Park or Burpee's for a specific flower which grows well in my climate. While I'm very happy with Johnny's, I'll check out MIGardener. Sounds interesting. Also, I believe that Botanical Interests changed ownership a couple of years ago and they are doing a lot of videos under Epic Gardening. Kind of sounds like what's happening with MIGardener stuff. I've checked out the former but not the latter. Epic Gardening has some great videos. I received the Baker's Creek catalog in the in the mail a few weeks ago. First time I've ever seen it. Wow. It's like porn for gardeners. And I'm only half way through it.
I know you won't read or comment on this, but these lists have been around for Decades. You can type in list of 100 heirloom seed companies. I have dozens of catalogs I received. Also many places only have online catalogs. The list is endless.
Funny that many say Non-GMO because those seeds are only sold commercially; just like promotion for chicken without hormones which has been banned in the US since the 1950's
I came here to say this. I've been told by someone very knowledgeable about the whole industry that it's actually illegal for companies to sell GMO seeds to home gardeners. The farmers that grow GMO seeds have to sign contracts with hefty fines for violating the terms. None of them are going to risk it to sell to people who aren't supposed to have them. They can't even save seeds for themselves for their next crops and have to repurchase each year. I wish more people knew this.
They kinda have to because so many still believe they can buy GMO seeds. A person in a gardening group refused to buy from Walmart or any big box store because she assumed they were GMO. We need to keep educating people.
I'm disappointed that you skipped the seed companies from other parts of the world. Just because a company isn't in the US, doesn't mean they don't have interesting seeds or that the shipping is crazy expensive. I think Nikitovka Seeds from Ukraine does free shipping to anywhere in the world, and they have varieties that you don't see in American seed shops, especially tomatoes and cucumbers.

I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
Me too. And saved the video
Me too I am a addict looking for plants and flowers, I have an addiction to Etsy
Pam here….was hoping you would have a list with links..wow so many that sound good option.
FYI, though not a seed company it is a great fruit tree, bushes and vines, Trees if Antiquity. The are very active in restoring old apple verities.
Thank you so much for sharing these seed companies !
This is such an incredibly informational vlog. Thank you so much for sharing with us!!!

This. Sorta shocking this isnt common knowledge among gardeners

@classicrocklover5615 you are correct, it's just called The Purple Tomato. I haven't seen it for sale yet but it has been marketed to consumers.
Jung’s is Sun Prairie WI I believe? When I first gardened in the 90s I started with them, and when I lived in Madison there were small retail stores to go to.
I think they have a few locations in Wisconsin

I hadn't heard of most of these, and there's several I now want to check out.
I've ordered several times from Ison's. All were good experiences for me.
Thanks for the great compilation! Thanks to the contributors.

This was great! Thanks for creating this compilation!
Hello, How are you? Wishing you Happy New year full with joy and wonderful moments.🎉
I appreciate you going through all of these suggestions and sharing it with us, I for sure have some new seed companies I will be buying from now. Thanks so much! Great video
Also did you find any big difference between italian vegetables/ fruit's seeds and american seeds.? Which are among the best overall.?
Now I have so much to look at. I really appreciate this video. I had no idea how many companies were out there.
Great video! Thank you so much for putting it together
I'm happy to hear you are getting bees. Definitely reach out to your local club and find a mentor. Please start with more than one hive

Victory Seeds come in resealable Mylar type packs. Love their seeds!

Starks brothers for trees and Brecks for dahlias tubers. Both have great products and sales.
Thanks, I found some new resources.

My best dahlia plant was from a bin at big lots for 1.99. It has coming back for 3 seasons now. You can find good plants in random places.

I'm trying Tri-fecta fertilizer this year
I love Zinnias too.
I LOVE Botanical Interests!!! I think even more than Baker. They are both amazing though
I've always had good success with Zella Jake Farm Garden seeds, too!

Everwilde Farms is awesome and has been a fave forever. They also have the special vault packs and the seeds stay high quality for longer.

If you could plant one plant what would it be?
Ganja
😢 that’s like picking one child to put on a life raft from the Titanic!
I’m so interested in seeing how others answer this question.

Hi, Thank you, so helpful!! really enjoyed it , happy gardening 🙂
I wish we could have an unbiased, unsponsored review of seed companies and how good their seeds are...

Cummins is a great place for fruit trees
No list?
Fedco does not buy seeds from the six conglomerate seed companies. They use small farmers or local growers for their seeds.
Where is a good place for bulk trees?
Starks brothers

Seeds will be confiscated by customs. It's illegal to bring them into the country for biosecurity and invasive species reasons.
Maybe someone has time to check out what companies use foreign seeds. Last I heard Johnny's may be getting some seeds from China.
All seed consumers can buy are Non GMO. You have to be a large farm or corporation to get GMO seeds. So you can't accidentally buy GMO seeds.
