    France is a cultural melting pot. It’s also one of the biggest countries for Breaking with more than a thousand battles every year and some of the greatest international competitions. It’s also in Paris 2024 that Breaking will make its Olympic debut.
    Dany Dann came to France from French Guyana to pursue a life in dance. Now, he juggles early morning shifts as a nurse, daily training and being a father - always with an eye on the next battle. Now reigning national champion, he trains with French national team members B-Girl Carlota and B-Boy Marlone for the WDSF World Breaking Championship in Paris.
    Discover the world of breaking through the eyes of five young dancers practicing this new Olympic sport around the globe. What does it mean to be a B-Girl or a B-Boy today? What challenges do they overcome and what does it take to be an athlete in this emerging art form that is evolving from the streets onto the world’s biggest stage: oly.ch/Breakin...

    It's more to this than just breakdancing. This is hip-hop! B-boying, B-girling, MCing, DJing, Beatboxing, and Graffiti art. Your crew has to have a fly style about them as a whole. You've got to have an entire crew in this culture, yo!

      The whole 5 elements of hip hop was a TV segment and that term caught traction. The average person in 2023 who listens to hip hop does not Break Dance. Very few beat boxers or graffiti artist i know in 2023 in LA. In 1993 I knew a couple. Crew battles are dum. Cuz i used to be the power head hitting handcuffs and nutcrackers, but was not a well balanced bboy.

    I don't see why some people don't think of breakdancing as a sport. It's fast-paced, competitive, requires training (as you see, they go through body training and work on sets, just like any other sport,) features crowd involvement for hype, just like a lot of other sports do, and is friendly. The main word here is competitive. I absolutely love the idea of breaking being featured in the Olympics, and will be tuning in for sure!

      Yet many other sports are still in ways subjective, any artistic sport has some criteria which attempts to make it objective but at the end it's still up for interpretation. A 100m is objective in the sense that everyone knows who wons a race, but you'd be able to get dofferent resulfs with the same people at different types, and in breaking you too compete to show of many many skills to top your opponent, and while it's more complicated, it's able to be judged@@matthewd6306

    Olympics is about athletisism and competition.. who runs 100meters the fastest is the fastest runner in the world. It's measureable by a number which makes it a sport.
    Bboying is also about athletisism and competition. But it's Not measureable by numbers. It's more about preference.

    • @ghujdvbts
      @ghujdvbts Месяц назад +1

      There are many events at the Olympics now that base competition on multiple, somewhat relative metrics. I understand your preference, but such events existed also during ancient times, where different forms of artistry and aesthetics were appreciated and reality wasn’t experienced only through quantifiable metrics. I think the biggest controversy is around framing and limiting these very expressive sports into olympic incentives - it will definitely cause a divide inside some of these sports, such as skatebording. Personally however, I’d much rather enjoy Olympic games that show human physical feats in all varieties, as long as the sports themselves have an inherent competetive element to them. Breakdance does, no question.

    • @leroyleroy100
      @leroyleroy100 Месяц назад +1

      @@ghujdvbts that's fair enough. I truely respect the competitive aspect and know what it takes to perform high peak yet i still prefer to see it as an expressive artform with no boundaries.. like painting. So should there be a discipline for painters?
      Not here to discredit breaking at all ..if someone can get olymic gold then go get it!
      They deserve all the light and attention because many of these dancers went a long way.
