1982 .... a very baked fellow high school classmate struggled to say this with her parched mouth... "Dop at Cumby's". It was so funny that I still repeat it to this day. Hey, we didn't have internet. We played with sticks.

Yeah me too. He's right the accent isn't great but still a funny skit.
The worst part of the accent isn't really any particular inflection (especially for a national audience on a sketch show) but how it just drops in and jets out like it's on a bungie cord.
And the fact that a local should have a better one to tap into.

Best part about this is everyone who grew up in New England (esp Mass) had a friend named Smitty at one point in their life.
I'm Boston all my life and they nailed the accent. Ben at the end "Weer pahtyin'" priceless.

Cumberland Farms! Located at the same strip mall since at least 1972 in North Amherst, Mass! Many convenience-store memories from that location. My Western Mass friends and schoolmates didn’t have the Boston accent but we heard it a lot from many of the UMass students.
True. Grew up in west Springfield and we would say wicked all the time, but didn't have the accent. Wasn't until I move to Rhode Island that I got it wicked bad

I used to go to that one in '94 for the year I went to UMass. It has the Taco Bell counter inside and bean burritos were like 89¢ or something. But Cousins Market would deliver cigarettes right to your dorm 🤣
It’s been a year and I thought I would add some more regarding Cumberland Farms in North Amherst. First, I think that because of all the apartment complexes that are close to it (Puffton Village, Colonial Village, Brandywine, North Village, and Presidential), it got a fair amount of business. My dad got a job as a professor at UMass in 1972, and he decided we would live at 77 Puffton Village. I have no idea why he did not buy a house when we moved to Amherst, but I actually loved living in Puffton as there were a lot of kids there in those days. We would walk down to Cumberland Farms a lot. Many good memories of living in Puffton during the 70s for sure!

Conan lost his accent a long time ago, he said it was from living in Chicago. He has a Midwestern accent. He had to learn to do a Boston accent again for this skit even though he's from there originally. He said on his talk show, "Yeah, I used to sound like a little Kennedy." Before he moved to Chicago.

Head back to the dorms, hand out the Boones Farm to Cindy, mad dog to Mike, while the rest of us drank whatever cold cheap piss we could afford (I drew the line at natty ice) spend the rest of the night getting shit faced while the entire dorm floor played deathmatch on quake. Wicked great times back then. I miss it

This skit is full of legends but the funniest thing is its so underviewed bcuz other than Ben aka Batman JImmy Conan and the rest were so under-appreciated BTW ‘Denise’ is still under-appreciated considering how hilarious she is in everything.
Also saw this years back on an SNL binge during COVID but came to rewatch after the ‘Conan Needs A Friend’ podcast, who’s with me?
PS Everyone small town also has this, but it does capture boston perfectly too as i moved around a lot when i was in my 20’s but in regards to this am from NY but lived in NJ with a boyfriend for a bit yet no matter where I’ve been there’s always the over 20 dude hanging with the HS kids to feel like a big man. But that’s just a quick side note: we all relate to knowing one of these am i right ? Keep Reading If Your Awesome
P.P.S ( i hope Tommy got that Sully ) This skit also contains 2 late night show hosts of tonight show as well & an amazing yet emo superhero Batman ( did anyone else see the Super Pets movie ? I took my daughter and the Batman and his new pet- played by Kevin Hart- ending combined monologues is a must watch for all ) so that’s amazing.
I swear people just click on the most popular videos and miss out on the hidden gems till someone super famous endorses it and everyone sees how great the hidden ones are.

In the Boston area in the 80s, "Cumberland Farms" was referred to as "Cumby's"
