I sat in front of Steven Wright at a Paul McCartney concert at Fenway Park several years ago and after every song he said in that classic tone, "I wonder what he's gonna play next?" It was hilarious.
The transition to talking about how Boston became over commercialized and the ad in the middle of this clip for T-mobile was brilliant. A great joke for those that are looking. 😂

But the crap is still going to be in the mix because thats just the nature of creating things.
My mom went to school in Boston in the 60's (grew up in Barre VT) and loved it. She always said it was a safe city for women while the Angiulos we running it
Conan and Steve are right about Boston being the epitome of a "No Showbiz" town, back then. Not because there weren't talented people, but because there was the Black Hole of NYC that sucked in all of the talent and all of the light and everywhere else except L.A. was a desert of opportunity. That has changed now of course because anyone with a smart phone and the internet has a TV studio in their hands.
Back in Boston in the 70's, where you might find Tom Rush performing in the street, or the other busking people trying to earn a living. I know one, Stephen Hollis, who later came to North Beach and never left. Multi-talented, with no money, created an 8 episode talk show that began on a rooftop and then got into local public TV here in San Francisco. The Eddie Show, which many of the episodes are now on RUclips. Eddie the host never had anything work out right. They also did remotes, and his co-host Fred, was a pyromaniac. Very nutty fun, and worth seeking out.
The idea that they grew up in Boston and thought the entertainment industry was so far away when they were were a short train ride away from NYC bothers me, as someone who grew up in rural Kansas, where I have to drive three hours just to get to the nearest airport
You are a horses ass if you think a lower middle class 14 year old in Boston could afford to just hop on a train, plane or automobile and catch some Broadway show or something. You might as well have been in Montana. FFS
It's far enough away (4 or 5 hours, maybe more back then) that you could not realistically commute. You'd need to stay over. Logistically it's just not worth it. You don't just go to NYC for the day and live in Boston like it ain't no thang. You'd get off the train and then have to get right back on. Granted it's not rural Kansas but for most working class people it almost may as well be.
When I saw this channel name Team Coco I clicked this video thinking this would be about all the Coco Chanel perfumes. But, these two guys seem to be fixated on other things other than perfume. This is not the Chanel I thought it would be.
I’ve been in Boston since the 80’s and I’m guessing Conan may be mixing up his references. He talks about “Le Pain Quotidien” which is an upscale bakery-cafe chain from Europe that you can find in NYC and LA but NOT in Boston, afaik. Another French-sounding chain that did indeed start in Boston and took off in the 80’s was Au Bon Pain. It was the fancier alternative here to Dunkin’ Donuts for a morning coffee and pastry.
People in Boston still not all that nice. Grew up and lived across the country and STILL, I was absolutely shocked at how racist Boston is living there... I still ask people that moved from there and it's basically still that way... It's the culture. It's somehow the north and accepted so not seen as a big deal at all... Crazy...
I was thinking the same thing. Too much me, me, me and then little doses of Steven. Bill Maher does then same thing on his channel and it drives me nuts. You would think they'd have a little more self awareness considering they've been interviewing people for years.
Conan should reduce the height of his chair. It looks like he is sitting on a heightening pillow. His belt line looks above his arm rest but Steve's arm rest looks like it is into his rib cage.
