Fan fact:
Denzels character was originally supposed to escape the city alive but he insisted that the character had to die as a consequence of his actions.
Based on his personality, it made more sense for him to survive but I get it. It’s just sometimes the bad guys do win and him alive would’ve been different actually 🤷🏽♀️
That goes to show you about Denzels personality. Jamie Foxx in Law Abiding Citizen insisted that his character came out on top even though his character was an arrogant prick. Even though Jamie's character was technically the protagonist, the audience wanted to see his character die because of how much of a dick he was and that Gerard Butlers character was the actual victim in that movie.

He could have easily gotten one of his loyal crew members to roll with him that day and do everything that Ethan Hawke did without having to lie about what his plans are and not worry about getting snitched on and the next day gave Ethan Hawke his training.
