Ok so I don't even wear hats but I watched all 3 videos Aly made about hats.🤷♀️ She's that good. I like how educational these videos are. There's always some history and lots of detail.
One aspect of hat wearing that’s often left out is: how does the silhouette look from the side? How are your skull and neck shaped at the back? This strongly affects how a hat looks on you when viewed from the side. (Like when a man is walking beside you.) Also your type of neck makes a huge difference on which hats you can wear.
As a dramatic classic, I agree with everything you say except the baseball cap. I would have to have a specific ensemble in order for it to work on me. very sporty looks tend to look a little off. Slightly frumpy.
I’m a dramatic and never wore a hat easily until I had to start wearing them at work as part of a costume-like uniform. And then I realized that wider brims balanced me out so much better. I had gotten stuck with a size L (unisex) for my felt gambler hat (a western style). When our costume check-out received a batch of new ons, I went to get a smaller size and realized not only was the crown smaller, but the brim too, and it made me look even more tiny-headed than I am! So in considering hats for everyday wear, I definitely am drawn to wider brims. I have a panama hat that’s perfect for casual sunny days and hot weather with a wider brim than many fedoras have today.
I am a theatrical romantic, and I love and collect hats, and I very much agree with your assessment. The only beanies that look good on me are the ones my mother in law knitted for me, with a lace pattern and a flower in the same colour on it. Turbans I wear more as turban style headbands, because the sporty headbands don't look good. I have occasionally saved a hat by putting some trim on it, making it go from plain sunhat to 50s riviera. Now all I need is the guts to walk around with a hat everyday...
I never wear hats because of how my hair looks afterwards, but now I really really want a cocktail hat with a veil (TR here). And wear it to some fancy event that will probably only happen in my imagination😄
I love those fancy events that only happen in my imagination, but for which I do have the outfits. LOL. Sometimes I want to be transported back to a time where those were actually a regular occurrence.
A couple decades ago I got bored and made a little fascinator hat. Eventually I got rid of it, but it was cute and it was kinda fun to make it (paper mache covered in fabric with a few feathers and a fancy hat pin). This is making me want to make another one and host a tea party so I can wear it. :) Maybe you can get a fancy hat and host a tea party, or a just because I want to be fancy party. :)
As a classic I found I look good with a beret but pulled to the back instead of the side. I just wear my hats to the back instead of the side and it works well
Another fantastic vid about the body types, Aly Art, and just in time for fall and winter weather-Good thinking! Also, thank you so much for continuing to cove the basic “Natural” body type. I am a natural, and have noticed that sometimes Kibbe doesn’t acknowledge it as a body type anymore.
I'm TR and those russian type fluffy hats and medium knit beanies look great on me but so does my fluffy cheater print bucket hat and my baseball cap, also it wasn't mentioned, but I look good in bandannas. I haven't tried the other recommendations but I will be keeping an eye out when shopping to give them a go, thank you.
Love that dress, saw the link! Been trying to make the Rouje Gabin dress work for my soft gamine, but it just doesn't! The neckline is way too deep and gaping. It's for women with bigger tops & smaller waists. Yours looks similar style but it actually fits you.
Those floppy hats can be fixed to have a crisp brim- if they're real felt, all you have to do is spray some spray starch on the brim and leave it to dry sitting flat on some newspaper.
Soft Natural here and I totally agree. I've felt that floppy beanies look good on me and sun/floppy hats always worked for me and it made me feel very elegant ☺️ and looking back to when i wore Fedoras, they just look awkward on me. 😆
My head is on the small side, actually, I'd say average. It used to be most hats fit, but now they are all big. I don't know why. Seems to be the same for clothing sizes and shoes. This is a great video - looks like I can get away with most hats being a Dramatic Classic and Flamboyant Gamine combo.
I'm a SG and the hats that I wear the most is the Newsboy cap, Cloche hat, smaller Fedora hat. I do look good in all the caps but I have to buy some. I have yet to find a beanie and a Barrette that feels like the right size. I have worn Turbans.
Hello, can you please tell me how to stylelong tunic with leggings style for romantics?? Being an Indian, it's very difficult to find appropriate styles.
I truly struggle being comfortable with hats, but I like the idea of a winter style berett. Big hats feel super foreign to me. But I do have a larger frame and heart shape face. I am not tall and have bold eye brows. Any suggestions.
Amazing video! Long time fan here. I would probably look for another word than the G-word to describe traveler style in your future videos, as it is becoming perceived as offensive and RUclips might demonetise. English is not my first language either, so I can tell you didn't mean any offense, just a friendly heads up of the changing landscape. :)
could someone recommend me barret brands in india ? i got motivated & bought one, but the shape keeps falling off when i try to wear it straight, centre of my head. i noticed it makes my face look cuter, howver i need a barret that is made with a fabric that holds its shape better. My current one is made with felt, but perhaps a lil stronger and stiffer, or idk a better taylored fabric will do
I'm a soft dramatic and I've been wanting to wear turbans for a few years (because it's so pretty) but I feel like it would be cultural appropriation because I am nordic and white..
Sport is for your own enjoyment, health and interest though and not connected to your shape. Or do you mean sportswear? If you mean that, I second that, that would be a great idea.
@@ellixrose2650 hey, no offense. Just a suggestion lmao. I suggest this bc I used to practice gymnastics and we never see Dramatic or even Classic practice this sport as there is rarely Soft Gamines practicing ballet. So I wonder if there is any sport adapted for any body type
@@mylajnsss oh, ok thanks for explaining. I guess it comes down to height rather than body types for certain sports, like typically gymnasts are short and basketball players tall. I guess ballet may be one of those cases where aesthetics may come into consideration. But it's really such a broad subject that you can't pin it down to body types.
@Myla Jns I'm in ballet, and we definitely see some soft gamines in the profession. Our training and posture leads to a look that might resemble dramatics, but most of us are not dramatics; it's an optical illusion. We are professional shape- shifters. 😊

She really has a kind of genius. I'm so grateful for Aly's videos.
Really great detail- honest assessment and thorough explanations. Excellent video! Keep them coming! Very helpful!
I'm a classic/natural girl. Fedoras look great on me, summer and winter types. Great video Aly! Love your shades btw😍

Unless you pronounce it the French way, which is were it comes from. That’s how they say it here in Europe/France

No, it’s not cultural appropriation, it is more like cultural appreciation. Wear what brings you joy. ❤️
Do people from other cultures wear Western clothing? Yes, all across the globe. So, why shouldn’t you do the same?

Flamboyant gamines are the 'blondes' of the body types. They get to have more fun. I'm a soft gamine and hate it so much. It is so restrictive.
