- From the awesome album Red Dirt Girl. I've never made a video for youtube, but I did this one because it's one of my favorite Emmylou Harris songs and I couldn't find it anywhere on here. So I just found a random picture I took last spring of an old Native American mound along the Natchez Trace in north MS to make a video out of the song. Enjoy! (*hands you a tissue*)

I rate, hearing Emmylou singing, to be the "PERFECT TRAGEDY". With her melodious voice, beating out winner after winner, she takes care of all TRAGEDIES.
Thanks very much for posting - one of the best songs on a great album. I love hearing Springsteen doing the harmony vocals on this.
This is also one of my favorite Emmylou songs. I love the demo version even more, it's a bit more acoustic and stripped-down.
Ane Brun did a fantastic stripped down version too.
one of my favorite ever songs, thank you.........
Great song. I love Patti Scialfa's harmony.
Wow, what a tremendous song. Thank you for posting.
Just beautiful.... and Bruce too... Wow x
What one might not know:
background vocalists are...
The Boss and Patti.
Bruce recorded it in 1999 or 2000
And for anyone who love his lives from that year (especially his live in Madison Sqiare Garden) this song is just perfect
We don’t hear him much but the few we hear especially his tone is great
Such a beautiful song.
thank you.
It's just the world don't need/ another stinkin' tragedy...
@SonofEmmy2
Oooh, I haven't heard that version! I will try to find it. This whole album is one I play over and over and over.
everybody can relate we all have our own tragedies
@barques95 It's actually Patti Scialfa singing the harmony. Bruce only chimes in at the very end around 3:22.
@barques95 YES! Their harmonies are the best part!
why was this song removed from the album hickory wind which was a re-release of the red dirty girl album
@dandanjanett1 Agreed!
@themonaghans Wow, thank you for pointing that out! I hadn't been able to differentiate the voices until I re-listened again just now. (I still like the Bruce harmonies the best though. :) )
@dlhippie58 You're welcome!
