    Today I'd like to talk about Alaska fish fertilizer. This is a wonderful organic product that works great on vegetables, perennials, shrubs, and trees. It's a 5-1-1 fertilizer and what this means is as five percent nitrogen, one percent phosphorous, one percent potassium. It delivers all the primary and secondary nutrients the plants need to grow healthy and strong and it also nourishes the beneficial microorganisms that are in the soil. The right nutrition delivered at the right time is so important for the health of your plants. And remember that healthy happy plants also are more resistant to disease and insect pressures. Tomatoes that have been fertilized with Alaska can grow up to two times larger than non fertilized plants. Applying Alaska 5-1-1 is easy. Just use a watering can and mix two tablespoons of the product with every one gallon of water. Apply Alaska 5-1-1. Every three weeks during the growing season. Remember that Alaska fish fertilizers are 100 percent organic and they've been certified by the Organic Materials Review Institute. Find Alaska 5-1-1 and other great Alaska Fertilizers at your lawn and garden retailer.

    This stuff works great. My only advice would be to wear gloves lol The stuff smells and the stink stays on your hands and on the container you use it in. Other than that I've used this for years and it really does great.

    I'm glad I came across this video as I wasn't sure how to apply it. It lists square footage application and house plant application but I'm growing in pots. How in the world would I figure out the square footage of my many different sized outdoor pots!. They need to change the label to include the concentration you mentioned.

    Have you ever used fish emulsion through drip irrigation? I have a fertilizer injector installed. According to the directions of fish emulsion it’s 2 tablespoons to 1 gallon of water fertilizes 25 square feet. Now I’m fertilizing about 240 square feet. From my math I need to add about a cup and a quarter to the injector reservoir. My next question is how much fish emulsion is too much or how much can burn the plants?

      I started mine in organic seed starting mix in plug trays. When they were ready and had their first set of true leaves I transplanted them into a 3" pot with potting mix. The potting mix has enough nutrition to get them going for a while. You don't want to fertilize too early or you'll burn the roots. Then after they've been in pots for a week or two you can water with a 1 tbsp to 1 gallon of water mixture once a week until you transplant them to the garden. At least this is how I'm doing it. I hope this helps you! Happy growing!

    This significantly lowers the PH of your water. It dropped my gallon of water from a oh of 7 to 4. If you need a specific ph or your plants don't seem to be growing as expected you should check your water after adding this. Other than that great product.

    I'm looking for "CHEAP" fertilizer. Is this all I need to feed my plant??

    • @AdrienBCaldwell
      @AdrienBCaldwell 4 года назад +1

      It depends on what sort of plant you have. This is good for trees and shrubs as it is high in nitrogen. But the middle number is only 1 (5-1-1). If you have a flowering plant you want the middle number to be higher so you get more flowers/fruit. I've used this in conjunction with other fertilizers. As an example, I'll use another fertilizer very every seven to ten days, then on the next seventh or tenth day I will use this Alaska Fish Fertilizer. Then in another days go back to my other fertilizer.

    • @AdrienBCaldwell
      @AdrienBCaldwell 4 года назад

      @@donnaallen2207 Sure, you can. I actually alternate between the Alaska Fish Emulsion and another fertilizer with a 20-20-20 profile like Jack's Fertilizer. I apply one and wait ten days and apply the other one and every ten days keep alternating.

    • @AdrienBCaldwell
      @AdrienBCaldwell 4 года назад

      @@donnaallen2207 You got it. But use it every ten days, not every fourteen days. When you break it down, you're using the fish emulsion every twenty days. And then your bloom booster will be every twenty days. But they overlap so to speak when you alternate each one at ten day intervals. Does that make sense?

    If you have racoons or other such animals they will come from far and wide when they smell the fish and will dig up the plants also the chemical analysis of fish fertilizers is not compelling extremely high sodium and low almost everything else. Fish processing results in lots of leftovers and that is what fish fertilizer is , a waste product promoted as fertilizer , would be OK if you got it free like the makers of most fish fertilizers do.

    Is it better to pour it at the base of the plants or to spray the foliage?

    • @CrispyOkra
      @CrispyOkra 5 лет назад

      Depends who you ask. It shouldn't hurt to do both or choose one or the other. Note, fertilizing the soil is best in warmer weather. In cool weather, it may sit & rot rather than breaking down to feed the microbes. If it rots it will actually have the opposite affect you're looking for, robbing nutrition from the soil.

    • @johns6704
      @johns6704 Год назад

      I've used it as both. It is also a good foliar sprary. Just make sure to apply it a dusk or some point at night. Will absort through the leaves better that way. I only use foliar spray applications though when the tree needs something immediate. We get enough rain here in Florida so wetting the trees again doesn't make sense if it can be avoided.
