Love the steam tractors. That is so cool to see them working, loaded. I love all the old iron shows, where the engines are running - but hearing them PULL A LOAD is really something awesome!
now thats whats u tube is bout. so many videos of mindless nosence but this is a great video no one gettin hurt killed or made fun of just a bunch of steam power great video
At the time this was filmed, I was there with my grandparents. Last year going there with them before my Grandpa passed away before the 2011 Buckley Engine Show. Fond memories there as an 11 year old
We knew a guy down in Waretown, NJ with one of these steam tractors. The thing could pull out any stump. He used to make shingles the same way with his tractor. He put a train whistle on it and rode it around town tooting the whistle. What a thrill that was for me way back then.
this is great to watch these old work horses being brought back & restored,,the kids of today might learn about hard work what it was like to have to work for what you get not waiting for some one else to give you things
Very impressed for only being 25 hp. that is moving pretty fast and pulling hard!! Nice video. Not many videos showing these beasts in action! Good Going Guys!!
Wow! what a great video and the sound is excellent! Not a sweeter sound exists than a steam tractor under load and doing it's thing. Thanks for sharing
Brings back happy memories of when my Grandpas farmed like this. If we get a solar flare that knocks out modern tractors, it won't have any effect on these. Just stoke your fire and add water!
Saw a few of these abandoned behind barns, or setting in small town parks after skidding logs until they were replaced by modern technology. As a farm kid in the Midwest, these things fascinated me. NM was pretty far behind. During small town parades across NM of today, the oldest tractors are post war 1948-1950's models. The farms are along the river valleys, most were comparatively small, historically family owned. They were still being worked by draft animals and manual labor, until relatively recent years :>)
I used to see (1950s or so) signs along rural highways in Michigan that said "Vehicles With Lugs Prohibited". I expect that this was what they were talking about. They would probably do a lot of damage to the asphalt on a hot summer day.
There is a gas and steam show like this in Clarksville, MI on Aug. 24, 25, 26th every year. It's right by my house. I hear the old steam powered sawmill going on late at night for the final show of the evening.
my father often spoke about working with the old steam engines and working on thresher gangs but it didn't make sense until you see the machines and how the worked
Wow! Nice to see those engines earn their keep as they were designed to- pulling a six-bottom plow like it was nothing. With the steam tech that's been developed since 1950, you'd get twice the horsepower and half the smoke out of the same engine. Even burning coal, a steam engine can be made to run cleaner than a pre-emissions diesel..
Thank you for watching, I have watch you tube videos of UK Plowing: two UK Plough engines and plow were brought to the USA in the early days; never caught on
Most of the time it is to switch direction. Many implements need to run only in one direction to function properly (saws, corn shellers, corn grinders, water pumps with vanes). Pumpjacks normally do not matter what direction they run. A twist in the belt also helps to keep it on the pulleys when it is windy (sometimes a double twist is used).
Today's student in Mechanical Engineering should study these purely mechanical machines, some of them have ingenious designs solutions. They may be old but they are beautiful designs.
You know whats really funny about this; my family had a 200 acre farm in New York that we ran up until 2003, and we used a 1964 John Deere diesel 3010 for everything. Our Diesel John Deere could only pull a 3 bottom plow. This steam engine is pulling a 6 bottom plow. If you could get a cheap supply of wood, it might actually be cheaper and faster to do all your tilling (plow, disk, drag etc.) with this Steam engine.
увидев такой вот паровой двигатель я стал больше уважать наших дедушек !!!!! которые в свое время могли делать такую технику ! я сейчас с большим удовольствием посмотрел бы как работают такие паровозы на пахоте !

If you owned one of these and you needed to transport it from one farm to another for threshing other farmers' crops, how did you transport them back in 1906-1920 or so? It wasn't like there were a lot of Mack lowboy tractor trailers cruising around back then(right?)
they moved under their own power; roads were not paved. The Steam Traction Engine would pull the water wagon and thresher behind it. 2.5 miles an hour. There were bridge laws
In old Germany was it use to operate with a tow system for plugging. This here seem much more progressive for that time. I remember my grandfather says they had around 245 hp.
the black tractor didn't even stuggle hard to believe them this are only around 100hp but still don't struggle a single bit, I wish they still made things like that, 1 tractor, multiple uses.

The pulley has a crown in it. If the belt runs to one side, the crown in the wheels will stretch the belt making it move in the opposite direction.
